Nitofill PU1F — One-Component Polyurethane Injection Foam for Active Water Leak Sealing

Nitofill PU1F

One-Component Polyurethane Injection Foam for Active Water Leak Sealing

Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad

Product Overview

Nitofill PU1F is a one-component moisture-reactive polyurethane injection resin from Fosroc for the emergency sealing of active water leaks flowing through cracks, joints, voids, and pores in concrete structures. Unlike two-component epoxy injection resins (such as Nitofill UR63) that require the crack to be dry and stable before injection, Nitofill PU1F is specifically designed for wet and actively flowing water conditions — the water that would prevent epoxy from bonding is actually the trigger for the polyurethane reaction, which causes the resin to expand and foam to form a rigid cellular plug in the crack or void. When Nitofill PU1F is injected under pressure into a water-filled crack or void, it comes into contact with the water and reacts to produce carbon dioxide gas. This gas causes the resin to expand rapidly (typically 10 to 30 times its original volume in water-reactive grades), creating a rigid foam that fills the crack and adjoining voids, conforming to the internal shape of the crack and stopping the water flow. The expansion and hardening process takes place within seconds to minutes, stopping active water flow almost immediately. Nitofill PU1F is used in basement crack sealing, tunnel and underground structure water ingress control, construction joint leak stopping, and any concrete structure where active water is flowing and immediate sealing is required. Space Arc Engineering distributes Nitofill PU1F for basement waterproofing remediation, tunnel maintenance, and infrastructure repair projects across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Northern India.

Applications

  • Active water leak stopping in basement walls and slabs through cracks
  • Construction joint water ingress control in water-retaining structures
  • Tunnel lining and underground structure active leak sealing
  • Emergency sealing of water-active joints in sewage treatment structures
  • Void filling around leaking pipes penetrating concrete walls
  • Foundation and retaining wall crack waterproofing under active water pressure

Key Advantages

  • Reacts with water — works where epoxy injection fails in wet cracks
  • Rapid expansion (10 to 30 times volume) fills cracks and surrounding voids
  • Stops active water flow within seconds to minutes after injection
  • Single-component — easy to use with standard PU injection pump
  • Rigid foam provides long-term crack sealing and structural void filling
  • Essential emergency repair tool for wet underground and below-grade structures

Frequently Asked Questions

How is Nitofill PU1F injected into a crack with active water flow?

The standard method for injecting polyurethane foam into an active water leak is to drill injection holes at 45 degrees into the crack along its length, at centres of approximately 200 to 300 mm, to intersect the crack or void below the surface. Injection packers (low-pressure ports) are installed in the drilled holes. The Nitofill PU1F is then injected using a hand-operated or mechanical low-pressure pump into the packers, starting from the lowest or wettest point and progressing along the crack. As the resin contacts the water in the crack, it expands and fills the void, stopping the flow. The process is repeated in additional packers if any flow continues. After sealing, the packers are removed and the holes are plugged.

Is the cured polyurethane foam from Nitofill PU1F a structural repair?

The cured foam from Nitofill PU1F provides an effective water seal but is NOT a structural crack repair. The cellular foam structure has low tensile and compressive strength — it seals water flow but does not restore structural continuity across a crack the way a high-modulus epoxy injection resin (such as Nitofill UR63) does. Where the crack is caused by structural deficiency, inadequate cover, or ongoing movement, the cause must be addressed by a structural engineer. The PU foam injection stops the water flow as an emergency measure; if structural crack repair is subsequently required, the foam should be removed and the crack re-injected with epoxy after the structure has dried out.

What is the difference between Nitofill PU1F and a hydrophilic waterstop like Supercast SW?

These products address different stages of water leakage control. Supercast SW is a preventive measure installed during construction at joints before the water source is present. Nitofill PU1F is a remedial injection treatment applied after construction when active water is already flowing through a crack or defective joint. In a new construction project, Supercast SW (installed at the joint face) plus a PVC waterstop embedded in the concrete provides the best prevention. If prevention fails and water is leaking, Nitofill PU1F injection is the repair solution for stopping the active flow.
