Fosroc Nitoflor EPU100
A tar-free, flexible epoxy-polyurethane protective coating for concrete and steel floors, walls and sub-structures – chemical, abrasion and UV resistant, and primerless on properly prepared concrete.
What is it?
A two-pack, hybrid epoxy-polyurethane liquid coating applied in two thin coats (200 microns wet film each) to protect concrete and steel surfaces. It is tar-free and free of carcinogenic coal tar, pitch and aromatic hydrocarbons.
Where is it used?
Warehouse and factory floors and walls, workshops, clean rooms, car park and traffic decks, and the waterproofing of foundations and sub-structures – typically across light to medium-duty industrial and commercial environments in India.
Why use it?
It combines chemical, abrasion and UV resistance with flexibility and an impermeable, waterproof film, while saving cost as a primerless system on concrete that brushes, rolls or sprays on quickly.
How is it applied?
Surfaces are cleaned and (for steel) grit-blasted; the resin and hardener are mechanically mixed for 3-5 minutes, then two coats are applied at not less than 200 microns wet film each, with the second coat following 2-4 hours after the first at 35 degrees C.
About Fosroc Nitoflor EPU100
Fosroc Nitoflor EPU100 (formerly Nitoflor EU100) is a flexible protective floor and wall coating built on a hybrid combination of epoxy and polyurethane resins. It is supplied as a two-pack system in pre-weighed resin and hardener cans, so site teams mix the full contents together and apply without re-proportioning. Unlike heavy-build self-levelling epoxy floors or polyurethane screeds, EPU100 is a thin-film coating: it is laid in two coats of around 200 microns wet film thickness each, giving a continuous, impermeable barrier rather than a structural topping. That makes it a practical, economical choice where the existing concrete or steel substrate is sound and the goal is protection rather than re-profiling. The product is deliberately tar-free and free of carcinogenic coal tar, pitch and aromatic hydrocarbons, which matters for indoor and enclosed-area work in Indian projects where worker safety and occupancy timelines are scrutinised. It cures to a flexible film with roughly 25 percent elongation at break, so it accommodates minor substrate movement and hairline cracking better than a rigid coating, and it resists UV, bacterial growth and a wide band of acids, salts and aqueous solutions. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor EPU100 as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical and on-site support for specification, surface preparation and application.
The technical insight
The defining characteristic of EPU100 is that it is a flexible, thin-film barrier coating, not a wear screed – and that should drive how it is specified. The two-coat, 200-micron-per-coat build produces a dry system in the region of a few hundred microns, so it protects and waterproofs but does not add meaningful impact or load-bearing capacity the way a 4-9 mm PU screed or a 2-3 mm self-levelling epoxy would. Its strengths are chemical exposure and movement tolerance: verified ASTM/BS data show resistance to 10 percent hydrochloric, 25 percent sulphuric, 10 percent nitric and 15 percent phosphoric acid after 7-day immersion, low water absorption of 0.2 percent, tensile strength of 10 N/mm2 and around 25 percent elongation, with adhesion of 1.5-2.5 N/mm2 to concrete depending on substrate quality. The hybrid epoxy-polyurethane chemistry is what delivers both the chemical/adhesion performance of epoxy and the flexibility and UV stability of polyurethane in one film. On concrete the system is primerless – laitance is removed by grit blasting and irregularities filled with Nitomortar FC/FCB – while steel must be blasted to Sa 2.5 and, if not coated immediately, primed with Nitoprime 25. Pot life is the main site constraint: about 3 hours at 23 degrees C but only 1.5 hours at 35 degrees C, so in Indian summer conditions mixing should be staged in small batches.
Where it is used
- Protective coating for warehouse and factory floors and walls
- Workshop and clean-room surface protection
- Car park decks and traffic-deck protection systems
- Corrosion protection of concrete surfaces against chemical and abrasion attack
- Waterproofing of foundations and sub-structures in below-grade environments
- Lining for surfaces exposed to dilute acids, salt solutions and sewage
- Anti-slip floor finishes when combined with Nitoflor Antislip Grain dressing
Key advantages
- Tar-free and free of carcinogenic coal tar, pitch and aromatic hydrocarbons – safer for indoor and enclosed-area application
- Flexible film (approx. 25% elongation at break) that tolerates minor substrate movement better than rigid coatings
- Primerless on properly prepared concrete, reducing material cost and one labour step
- Versatile application by brush, roller or spray to suit areas of any size
- Acts as an impermeable, waterproof barrier with low 0.2% water absorption
- Broad chemical resistance to dilute acids, salt solutions, sea water, ground water and sewage
- UV resistant and resistant to bacterial growth, suiting it to exposed decks and hygiene-sensitive areas
- Non-flammable in the mixed/cured product, easing handling on enclosed sites
Limitations & considerations
- Thin-film coating only – it does not add impact resistance or load-bearing capacity like a PU screed or self-levelling epoxy topping
- Must be protected from water contact for the first 24 hours after application or discolouration can occur
- Short pot life in heat – around 1.5 hours at 35 degrees C – demanding small batch mixing in Indian summer conditions
- Requires sound, clean, dry substrates; steel needs grit blasting to Sa 2.5
- Standard colour is grey only; other colours are subject to minimum order quantities
- Not intended for cold working below 5 degrees C, and accelerated heating to cure must not be used
- As a coating it relies on substrate integrity and does not bridge active structural cracks
Selection & best practice
Specify EPU100 where you need chemical, abrasion and waterproof protection on a sound substrate – not where you need to rebuild a worn or uneven floor. Estimate at the verified theoretical coverage of 5.0 m2 per litre per coat at 200 microns wet film; with two coats that is roughly 0.4 litre per square metre before wastage, so a 10-litre pack covers about 25 square metres for the full two-coat system in practice. On concrete, remove all laitance by grit blasting and fill irregularities with Nitomortar FC or FCB; priming is not required. On steel, blast to Swedish Standard Sa 2.5 and either coat immediately or hold the surface with Nitoprime 25 to prevent flash rust. Mix the full resin and hardener cans mechanically with a slow-speed drill and Fosroc paddle for 3-5 minutes, then apply at once. Allow the first coat to dry at least 2 hours at 35 degrees C and apply the second within 2-4 hours; keep the film off water for 24 hours. In summer, batch small quantities to respect the 1.5-hour pot life at 35 degrees C, store materials in the shade, and avoid midday application. For slip resistance, broadcast Nitoflor Antislip Grain into the base coat and seal with a top coat at 5.0 m2 per litre, giving a 0.75-2.0 mm textured system.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor EPU100
Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, EPU100 sits as the flexible, tar-free, primerless protective coating – distinct from rigid systems like Nitoflor SL self-levelling epoxy floors, Nitoflor FC150/EP solvent-free epoxy coatings, or dry-shake hardeners such as Nitoflor Hardtop for heavy-traffic concrete. It is closely related to other epoxy-polyurethane coatings in the family, including the Nitoflor EPU and Nitoflor EPU Conductive/Dissipative variants for ESD-controlled areas, and the water-based Nitoflor EPW100, any of which may be the better fit depending on flexibility, conductivity or VOC needs. Choose EPU100 when you need chemical and waterproof protection plus movement tolerance on a sound substrate; choose a screed or self-levelling topping when the floor itself must be rebuilt or carry heavy impact. Against competitor lines, the comparable products are Sika’s Sikafloor coatings (for example Sikafloor-156/161 primers with Sikafloor-264/2540W topcoats) and MBCC/Master Builders Solutions MasterTop coatings, while heavy-duty polyurethane-cement needs are better served by MasterTop/Ucrete-type PU screeds rather than a thin-film coating like EPU100. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering can help specifiers in Delhi NCR and Pan-India select correctly between these systems and provide on-site application support.
