Fosroc Nitoflor ET Screed
Heavy-duty, anti-slip, solvent-free epoxy screed that bonds to both asphalt and primed concrete — engineered for bridge decks, link-spans, car parks and aggressive wet-process industrial floors.
What is it?
A four-component, solvent-free epoxy screed based on coal-tar-modified epoxy resins, amine curing agents, graded silica fillers and a high-strength silica aggregate, supplied pre-weighed for on-site mixing.
Where is it used?
Steel and concrete bridge decks, foot/road bridges, RO-RO link-spans, car parks, work platforms, walkways, cargo-handling areas and wet-process industrial floors exposed to oils, greases and chemicals.
Why use it?
It is one of the few floor screeds that adheres reliably to prepared asphalt as well as primed concrete, while delivering a non-slip, waterproof, chemically resistant and corrosion-protective wearing course.
How is it applied?
The substrate is prepared and primed (concrete with Nitoprime SP), the pre-weighed components are mixed on site, the screed is trowel-applied to the design thickness, and foot traffic is possible after about 24 hours at 25 degrees C.
About Fosroc Nitoflor ET Screed
Fosroc Nitoflor ET Screed is a heavy-duty, anti-slip flooring screed built around a coal-tar-modified epoxy chemistry that sets it apart from conventional clear or pigmented epoxy toppings. It is a four-component system: solvent-free coal-tar-modified epoxy resins, amine curing agents, chemically inert graded silica fillers, and a specially selected silica aggregate chosen for its high crushing strength. All components are supplied in pre-weighed quantities, so the full kit is mixed in correct ratio on site without the field batching errors that plague drum-and-tin systems. The defining feature of the ET (Epoxy Tar) family is dual-substrate adhesion: unlike most resin floors that demand a sound cementitious base, ET Screed bonds well to prepared bituminous and asphalt surfaces as well as to primed concrete. That makes it a natural fit for transport infrastructure and external decks where the existing surface is asphalt or where a bituminous wearing course must be over-screeded. The cured screed is non-slip with excellent wet grip, waterproof, chemically resistant to oils, greases, hydraulic fluids and a wide range of chemicals, and acts as a corrosion-protective, water-impermeable barrier over the substrate beneath. It is the aggregate-loaded, trowel-applied screed member of an ET family that also includes Nitoflor ET Slurry (a roller/squeegee-applied anti-skid slurry) and Nitoflor ET Slurry R. For Indian contractors, consultants and facility owners, Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor ET Screed as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, with site survey, substrate assessment and trained crews — important for a coal-tar epoxy that rewards correct priming, mixing and ventilation.
The technical insight
The performance logic of ET Screed comes from pairing a coal-tar-modified epoxy matrix with a graded high-crushing-strength silica aggregate. The coal-tar modification gives two things plain epoxy lacks: genuine adhesion to bituminous/asphalt substrates, and a hydrophobic, water-impermeable film that protects steel and concrete from corrosion. The amine curing agents drive a fast room-temperature cure — foot traffic in roughly 24 hours at 25 degrees C — while the dense silica filler-aggregate skeleton carries the wheel and impact loads. The aggregate also creates the textured, anti-slip profile that retains grip when wet, which is the property that matters most on bridge decks and ramps. Because it is solvent-free, the screed cures with negligible shrinkage and no solvent-entrapment blistering, allowing a thicker monolithic build than solvent-borne coatings. Practically, the screed is only as good as its bond line: concrete must be mechanically prepared and primed with Nitoprime SP (the recommended primer for the Nitoflor coatings, toppings and screeds range), and asphalt must be sound, clean and dry. As a coal-tar-bearing material it is dark in colour and should be specified where a black/charcoal anti-slip deck is acceptable rather than a light decorative finish — for colour-critical interiors a pigmented system such as Nitoflor TF5000 or a PU like Nitoflor Floorcrete PU is the better route.
Where it is used
- Steel and concrete bridge decks and footbridges requiring an anti-slip, waterproof wearing course
- RO-RO link-spans, ferry ramps and port cargo-handling areas exposed to traffic and salt water
- Multi-storey and surface car park decks where asphalt or concrete needs a durable trafficked screed
- Work platforms, gantries, loading bays and walkways needing wet grip
- Wet-process industrial floor areas exposed to oils, greases, hydraulic fluids and chemicals
- Waterproofing / corrosion-protection screed over concrete and steel substrates in aggressive environments
- Over-screeding of existing prepared asphalt surfaces where a conventional epoxy would not bond
Key advantages
- Bonds to both prepared asphalt and primed concrete — rare dual-substrate capability
- Non-slip with excellent grip even when wet, ideal for ramps, decks and external traffic
- Solvent-free formulation — low shrinkage, no solvent-entrapment blistering, thicker monolithic build
- Waterproof and corrosion-protective to the concrete/steel substrate beneath
- Chemically resistant to oils, greases, hydraulic fluids and many other chemicals
- Fast cure — foot traffic after about 24 hours at 25 degrees C minimises downtime
- Pre-weighed four-component kits eliminate on-site batching/ratio errors
- High-crushing-strength silica aggregate gives a hard-wearing, impact-resistant surface
Limitations & considerations
- Coal-tar-modified, so the finish is dark (black/charcoal) — not suited to colour-critical or decorative interiors
- Coal-tar epoxies have environmental/health perceptions; ensure good ventilation and PPE, and confirm acceptability for the project’s specification
- Cure speed and pot life are temperature-dependent — application below recommended temperatures slows cure; very hot weather shortens working time
- Demands correct substrate preparation and priming (Nitoprime SP on concrete; sound, dry, clean asphalt) — bond failures trace back to prep
- Not a self-levelling decorative topping; it is a trowel-applied textured screed, so finish appearance differs from smooth flow-applied floors
- Not intended for continuous high-temperature thermal exposure typical of some specialist screeds
- UV/aesthetic ageing: like most tar-modified epoxies it can discolour outdoors, though this rarely affects function on traffic decks
Selection & best practice
Confirm the substrate first: mechanically prepare concrete (grit-blast or scabble) to a sound, laitance-free profile and prime with Nitoprime SP; ensure asphalt is fully cured, clean, dry and stable. Check moisture and temperature — apply within Fosroc’s recommended temperature window and avoid application onto damp or contaminated surfaces. Because the kit is pre-weighed and four-component, mix the entire pack in one pass with a forced-action mixer; never split a kit by eye. Work to the specified screed thickness in bays, finishing the anti-slip texture consistently, and protect freshly laid areas from water and traffic until cured. Allow the full chemical cure (well beyond initial foot-traffic time) before exposing to chemicals or heavy wheeled loads. Provide ventilation during application and respect the data-sheet pot life — plan bay sizes so each batch is placed within working time. For colour-sensitive or food-grade areas, specify an alternative Fosroc system rather than forcing a coal-tar product into the wrong application. Space Arc Engineering provides site assessment and trained application crews to ensure the priming, mixing and curing sequence is followed.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor ET Screed
Within the Fosroc Nitoflor industrial-flooring range, ET Screed is the specialist choice when the substrate is asphalt or when a bridge/deck needs a waterproof, anti-slip, corrosion-protective wearing course — a job conventional epoxies cannot do. It sits alongside its ET-family siblings Nitoflor ET Slurry and ET Slurry R (thinner roller/squeegee-applied anti-skid coatings, finished around 2.5–3.0 mm) and is primed with Nitoprime SP. For colour-critical, decorative or food-grade interiors where a black coal-tar finish is unsuitable, Fosroc’s own pigmented epoxy screeds (Nitoflor TF5000 / TF5000 E) or polyurethane Nitoflor Floorcrete PU are the better specification. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives for deck and anti-slip/chemical-resistant flooring include Sika (Sikafloor and Sikadur deck/screed systems), MBS/MYK and similar epoxy-screed suppliers, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) for waterproofing-led flooring solutions, and STP Limited for protective deck and corrosion systems. ET Screed’s differentiator remains its proven asphalt-bonding coal-tar-epoxy chemistry for bridges, link-spans and car-park decks — choose it for that dual-substrate, waterproof, anti-slip duty, and choose a pigmented or PU alternative when appearance, light colour or low-odour interior application is the priority.
