Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo
Solvent-free, multi-component epoxy resin terrazzo system for seamless, highly decorative and chemically resistant heavy-duty floors
What is it?
A solvent-free, multi-component epoxy resin terrazzo flooring system combining an epoxy resin base, modified polyamine hardener, graded filler, natural or synthetic aggregates (marble, granite, recycled glass, mother-of-pearl) and a colour pack to form a seamless, polished, monolithic terrazzo surface.
Where is it used?
Internal high-footfall, high-aesthetic spaces in India: airport lounges, metro and railway terminals, shopping malls, five-star hotel lobbies, hospitals, educational institutions, convention centres and prestige commercial or retail interiors.
Why use it?
Delivers the timeless look of traditional cement terrazzo but jointless, faster to install, lighter, far more chemical- and abrasion-resistant, and hygienic – with full freedom over colours, aggregates, logos and inlaid designs.
How is it applied?
Trowel-applied over a Nitoprime 31 primer and Nitoflor ETerrazzo fibreglass crack-bridging membrane at 8-12 mm, allowed to cure, then mechanically ground/polished down approximately 2 mm to a 6-10 mm finished surface, grouted, and sealed with Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer.
About Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo
Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo is a synthetic resin (epoxy) terrazzo system engineered as a modern, high-performance alternative to traditional cementitious terrazzo. Rather than binding marble chips in a cement matrix, it suspends carefully graded natural and synthetic aggregates – marble, granite, clear and coloured recycled glass and mother-of-pearl – within a solvent-free epoxy binder, producing an internal, seamless, hard-wearing decorative floor. The matrix is pigmented with a colour pack so designers can specify a background colour and then layer in an aggregate pattern, decorative inlays, brand logos and divider-strip geometries. The finished result reads as a single continuous polished slab with no grout lines or movement joints across the field, which is exactly what high-traffic public interiors in India increasingly demand for both appearance and cleanability. Because it is a full build-up system rather than a single product, Nitoflor ETerrazzo is specified as a complete assembly: Nitoprime 31 primer, a Nitoflor ETerrazzo fibreglass crack-bridging membrane, the epoxy terrazzo screed itself, Nitoflor ETerrazzo Grout to fill surface porosity after grinding, and two coats of Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer to consolidate and enrich the colour. Zinc, aluminium or brass divider strips are set at joints and design boundaries. The system is independently benchmarked against the National Terrazzo & Mosaic Association (NTMA) Terrazzo Specifications and Design Guide, the recognised reference standard for terrazzo workmanship and performance. For Space Arc Engineering’s clients – architects, PMCs and flooring contractors across Delhi NCR and Pan-India – this is a premium-segment product: it sits at the top of the decorative-flooring ladder, above self-levelling epoxy and PU screeds, and is chosen where the brief explicitly calls for terrazzo aesthetics combined with industrial durability.
The technical insight
The defining engineering feature of Nitoflor ETerrazzo is its layered, crack-isolated build-up. A fibreglass-reinforced epoxy membrane sits between the substrate and the terrazzo screed, acting as a crack-bridging and crack-suppressant layer so that shrinkage or hairline movement in the base concrete is not telegraphed up into the polished surface – a common failure mode in rigid cement terrazzo. The epoxy binder itself is solvent-free and chemically cured by a modified polyamine hardener, which is what gives the floor its standout abrasion and chemical resistance compared with cementitious matrices. A practical detail many specifiers miss is the sacrificial grinding allowance: the system is laid 2 mm thicker than the finished dimension (e.g. 8 mm laid, ground to 6 mm) precisely so the diamond-grinding stage can expose the aggregate cross-sections cleanly and produce a flat, mirror-polished plane. Compressive performance is high for a decorative topping – the specification calls for a minimum of 80 N/mm² – and adhesion to a properly prepared substrate exceeds 2.5 N/mm², comfortably above the tensile strength of sound concrete, so debonding is rarely the weak link. The aggregate size selected directly governs the visual pattern and the minimum viable thickness, which is why thickness and design series must be decided together at the specification stage rather than on site.
Where it is used
- Airport and metro passenger terminals, lounges and concourses where appearance and abrasion resistance both matter
- Railway terminals and high-footfall transit interchanges
- Shopping malls, atriums and premium retail environments requiring unique, branded flooring
- Five-star hotel lobbies, banquet halls and hospitality interiors
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities needing a seamless, hygienic, easily cleaned floor
- Educational institutions – university foyers, libraries and prestige academic buildings
- Convention and exhibition centres
- Corporate headquarters and prestige commercial reception areas with logo or design inlays
Key advantages
- Long service life with exceptional resistance to abrasion and a wide range of chemicals
- Seamless, jointless field surface that is hygienic and easily cleaned – well suited to healthcare and food-adjacent public areas
- Lightweight relative to thick cement terrazzo, so it adds minimal dead load to existing floors and suspended slabs
- Integral fibreglass crack-bridging membrane suppresses substrate cracking and maximises tensile performance
- Solvent-free and comparatively environment-friendly to install in occupied or enclosed buildings
- Permits large-scale decorative designs, colour blends, divider-strip geometries and inlaid logos
- Six standard design series (Glamorous, Synthesis, Coloured Glass, Classic, Natural, Majestic) plus custom aggregate and colour combinations
- Benchmarked to the internationally recognised NTMA terrazzo specification, giving specifiers a defensible quality reference
Limitations & considerations
- Intended for internal use only – not specified for external exposure or UV-driven applications
- Premium-priced and labour-intensive versus self-levelling epoxy or PU screeds; cost is driven by hand-trowelling, grinding and polishing
- Requires skilled, experienced applicators and mechanical diamond-grinding equipment – not a DIY or general-mason product
- Multi-stage system (primer, membrane, screed, grout, sealer) means longer programme time and several cure windows before traffic
- Like all epoxies, surface gloss and colour can be affected by prolonged direct UV; placement away from unshaded glazing is preferred
- Substrate must be sound, dry and properly prepared; high residual moisture or hydrostatic pressure in the slab can compromise adhesion
- Divider strips and joint detailing must follow the design layout – field expansion and structural joints have to be carried through the topping
Selection & best practice
Treat Nitoflor ETerrazzo as a designed system, not a single coating. Lock the design series, aggregate size, background colour, thickness and divider-strip layout at the specification stage, because aggregate size dictates minimum thickness and the grinding allowance. Prepare the substrate by captive-shot blasting or grinding to a sound, laitance-free, dry profile and prime with Nitoprime 31. Always install the fibreglass crack-bridging membrane over the primer before the terrazzo screed – skipping it is the most common cause of reflected cracking. Lay 2 mm thicker than the finished dimension to allow clean diamond grinding, then grout surface porosity with Nitoflor ETerrazzo Grout, re-grind, and finish with two coats of Nitoflor ETerrazzo Sealer to consolidate the surface and bring out matrix colour. Carry structural, expansion and control joints through the topping using divider strips, and back wide expansion joints with double divider strips filled with a suitable sealant. Mix full units only, observe the pot life in warm Indian site conditions, and protect the cured floor from traffic until the sealer has fully hardened. Engage applicators with documented terrazzo experience.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor ETerrazzo
Nitoflor ETerrazzo is Fosroc’s flagship decorative epoxy terrazzo and sits at the premium top of Space Arc’s industrial-flooring range, above standard self-levelling epoxy and PU screeds. Within the Fosroc family it pairs with the Nitoflor heavy-duty flooring line – for example Nitoflor Hardtop (a non-metallic floor hardener) for purely industrial wear surfaces, and self-smoothing epoxy systems such as the Nitoflor FC/SL grades where seamless durability is needed without the terrazzo aesthetic – while Nitoprime 31 and the ETerrazzo membrane, grout and sealer complete its own build-up. Against the wider market, the closest competitors are decorative epoxy terrazzo and resin-terrazzo systems from Sika (Sikafloor decorative/terrazzo solutions), MBS (MYK/MBCC industrial resin floors), STP Limited and, at the waterproofing/coatings end, Dr. Fixit – though Dr. Fixit and STP are stronger in waterproofing than in polished decorative terrazzo. Honest guidance: if the brief is genuine terrazzo aesthetics with public-area durability, Nitoflor ETerrazzo is a leading specified choice and NTMA-benchmarked; if the requirement is a plain hard-wearing or chemically resistant floor without the decorative terrazzo finish, a self-levelling epoxy or floor hardener is more cost-effective. Space Arc can quote comparative options and confirm the right grade for the project budget and aesthetic.
