Fosroc Nitoflor SL7 HD
A four-component, flow-applied 2 mm heavy-duty floor topping engineered with Dynamis scratch-resistant technology for abrasion, impact and chemical resistance in demanding industrial floors.
What is it?
A heavy-duty, four-component flow-applied hybrid floor topping built around Fosroc’s Dynamis scratch-resistant technology, laid at a nominal 2 mm to give a seamless, matt, chemical-resistant industrial floor.
Where is it used?
Heavy engineering and manufacturing floors, pharmaceutical and engineering process areas, automobile units and aircraft hangars across Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.
Why use it?
It combines high abrasion and scratch resistance (passes up to 7 kg per ISO 1518) with good impact strength and broad chemical resistance, while remaining moisture-tolerant and seamless for easy cleaning.
How is it applied?
Specialist applicators prepare the concrete by grinding/scarifying, apply a Nitoflor SL7 HD scratch coat, then trowel-apply the four-component topping at 2 mm and de-aerate with a spiked roller; cured per BS 8204-6 and the Fosroc method statement.
About Fosroc Nitoflor SL7 HD
Fosroc Nitoflor SL7 HD is a self-smoothing, heavy-duty resin floor topping designed for industrial environments where the floor takes constant punishment from forklifts, pallet trucks, dragged loads, dropped tools and aggressive cleaning regimes. Unlike a thin protective coating, it is a four-component system supplied as a Part A liquid base, a Part B hardener, a graded aggregate filler and a Nitoflor UT colour pot. When combined and flow-applied, these build a continuous 2 mm monolithic surface that bonds to the prepared concrete and behaves as a sacrificial wearing layer protecting the slab beneath.\n\nThe defining feature is Fosroc’s Dynamis scratch-resistant technology, a hybrid resin chemistry that the manufacturer positions as delivering the highest order of durability against abrasion, scratching and physical attack while retaining the smooth, seamless, easy-clean finish that hygiene-sensitive operations demand. The system is moisture-tolerant during cure and is rated non-flammable. For Indian specifiers, the product carries an official Fosroc Chemicals (India) Pvt. Ltd. technical data sheet (ref INDIA/2024/PDS/A), so it can be written into a specification with confidence rather than relying on a regional equivalent.\n\nNitoflor SL7 HD sits in the premium tier of Fosroc’s flow-applied floor topping range. It targets facilities that need more than a sealer or a thin epoxy coating but do not necessarily justify a 4-6 mm screed. At 2 mm it bridges that gap: substantially tougher and more impact-resistant than a roller-applied coating, more economical to lay than a heavy trowel-applied screed, and finished in a single self-levelling pass that mirrors a flat substrate. Space Arc Engineering supplies and installs the system as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, handling diamond grinding, scratch-coat priming, batched four-component mixing and spiked-roller de-aeration in line with the Fosroc method statement.
The technical insight
The performance of Nitoflor SL7 HD comes from its four-component formulation rather than a simple two-pack epoxy. The graded aggregate filler (7.50 kg of a 15.40 kg, 10 L unit) is what carries compressive load and resists abrasion, while the Dynamis resin matrix binds the system and supplies scratch and impact toughness. Verified laboratory values are a compressive strength of 52 MPa (BS 6319-2), tensile strength of 12 MPa (ASTM D638), flexural strength of 22 MPa (ASTM D790) and Shore D hardness of 76 at one day (ASTM D2240). Abrasion loss is 39 mg/1000 cycles on a CS17 wheel under 1 kg (ASTM D4060), impact resistance is 8.8 J at 2 mm (ASTM D2794), and the surface passes scratch testing up to 7 kg (ISO 1518). Bond strength to correctly prepared concrete exceeds 2.5 MPa (ASTM D7234) — typically forcing failure into the concrete rather than the interface. A critical practical detail is the very short working life: only 15-20 minutes at 30 deg C. Because the system is fast-setting, applicators must mix full packs, discharge immediately, achieve coverage with a notched trowel and spike-roll within 10 minutes — and must never return to spike-roll older areas, as that leaves permanent spoiling marks. This dictates crew size, set-out and panel sequencing on every pour.
Where it is used
- Heavy engineering and machine-shop floors subject to point loads, dragged steel and dropped tools
- Industrial manufacturing and production floors needing a tough, seamless wearing surface
- Pharmaceutical and engineering process areas where hygiene, cleanability and chemical resistance matter
- Automobile assembly, service and component units exposed to oils and lubricating fluids
- Aircraft hangars and MRO floors requiring abrasion and impact durability
- Warehouse and logistics aisles running forklift and pallet-truck traffic over prepared concrete
- Refurbishment of worn granolithic or old concrete floors as an overlay (with correct preparation)
Key advantages
- Dynamis technology gives superior scratch resistance — passes up to 7 kg on ISO 1518
- Tough, high resistance to physical damage and impact (8.8 J at 2 mm)
- Broad chemical resistance to common acids, alkalis, oils and lubricating fluids
- Seamless, jointless finish that is easy to clean and hygienic for process areas
- Moisture-tolerant during application, widening the window on Indian sites
- Self-smoothing flow application gives a uniform 2 mm matt finish in one pass
- Available in seven colours (Light Grey, Mid Grey, Blue, Yellow, Beige, Green, Red)
- Non-flammable; backed by an official Fosroc India TDS for specification
Limitations & considerations
- Smooth finish becomes slippery when wet — not inherently slip-resistant; good housekeeping is mandatory and anti-slip aggregate must be specified separately where needed
- Not colour-fast: will yellow over time under UV and heat, most visible on light colours and blue shades (does not affect performance)
- Very short working life (15-20 min at 30 deg C) demands experienced crews, immediate discharge and disciplined spike-rolling within 10 minutes
- Must be installed by specialist applicators per BS 8204-6 and the Fosroc method statement — not a DIY or general-contractor product
- Requires sound concrete: minimum M20 / 20 MPa at 28 days, surface tensile above 1.5 MPa, laitance fully removed by grinding or scarifying
- Acid etching and percussive scabbling are not recommended for preparation
- Batch process means minor colour variation can occur between batches — order full-floor quantities together
- Rising hydrostatic pressure or a missing damp-proof membrane can cause adhesive failure unless pressure relief is provided
Selection & best practice
Specify and verify the substrate first: a minimum M20 (20 MPa at 28 days) base, surface tensile strength above 1.5 MPa or rebound-hammer value above 25, with a functioning damp-proof membrane for ground-bearing slabs. Remove laitance, curing membranes and contamination by diamond grinding or scarifying to expose coarse aggregate — never by acid etching or scabbling — then vacuum clean. Cut anchorage grooves at edges, day joints, up-stands, drains and doorways to at least twice the floor thickness. Apply a Nitoflor SL7 HD scratch coat at a nominal 0.5 mm to prime and seal, fill the grooves, and let it cure 12-48 hours at 20 deg C; if it cures beyond 48 hours, abrade and re-coat before laying the topping. Keep ambient, material and substrate between 10 and 34 deg C (ideal 15-30 deg C) and at least 3 deg C above dew point, and do not start if RH is, or will be, above 90% within the tack-free period. Mix full packs only with a forced-action rotary paddle mixer, discharge immediately, set coverage with a notched trowel and spike-roll within 10 minutes — without returning to older areas. Protect the new floor from damp, condensation and water for at least four days, and stage trafficking per the cure schedule.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL7 HD
Nitoflor SL7 HD is the heavy-duty, scratch-resistant member of Fosroc’s flow-applied flooring family and is best chosen when a facility needs more durability than a coating but a thinner, faster install than a full screed. Within the Fosroc range, compare it with Nitoflor SL (standard self-levelling epoxy) where impact and scratch demands are lower, Nitoflor HD/HD-S where a thicker high-build epoxy is warranted, and Nitoflor Quartztop where a heavy-duty cementitious dry-shake floor hardener suits new power-floated slabs; pair the prepared substrate with Fosroc Nitoprime/Nitomortar repair products as needed. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc recommends the Fosroc system for projects standardising on Fosroc; however, credible alternatives exist and should be evaluated on the specification. Sika’s Sikafloor self-levelling and heavy-duty epoxy systems are the closest international equivalents, MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (formerly BASF) Ucrete and Mastertop ranges are strong where chemical and thermal-shock duty is severe, STP Limited offers epoxy flooring for value-led Indian projects, and Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) competes mainly in lighter-duty epoxy floor coatings rather than this heavy-duty topping class. Final selection should hinge on verified abrasion, impact and chemical-resistance data, slip requirements, cure-window constraints on site, and applicator competence — not brand alone.
