Fosroc Nitoflor FC400 UH
Solvent-free, hybrid-polyurethane resin floor coating that delivers a hard-wearing, chemical- and abrasion-resistant finish at a minimum 400-micron dry film thickness — engineered for cold rooms, dairies, pharma and food-processing floors.
What is it?
A two-pack, solvent-free hybrid polyurethane resin floor coating from Fosroc, applied as two top coats to a minimum total dry film thickness of 400 microns over a primed concrete substrate.
Where is it used?
Chemically aggressive, hygiene-critical and abrasion-prone industrial floors — cold rooms (down to -5 degrees C), dairies, soft-drink and pharmaceutical plants, chemical manufacturing, effluent/waste-water areas, laboratories and cafeterias.
Why use it?
It resists a wide band of acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and grease, cures with no solvent odour (ideal for shutdown work), and gives a tough, low-maintenance, liquid-applied seamless finish with optional anti-slip texture.
How is it applied?
Prime the prepared concrete with Nitocote Primer Sealer, then roller- or squeegee-apply two coats of the mixed base + hardener + colour pack at 200 microns each; anti-slip grains can be broadcast into the base coat where slip resistance is needed.
About Fosroc Nitoflor FC400 UH
Fosroc Nitoflor FC400 UH is a high-performance industrial floor coating built around a solvent-free, hybrid polyurethane resin chemistry. Unlike thin decorative epoxy paints, it is specified as a coating with a minimum total dry film thickness of 400 microns, applied as two top coats of at least 200 microns each over a properly primed concrete substrate. The “UH” designation reflects its formulation for hygiene-sensitive and chemically demanding environments where a hard-wearing, easily cleaned, liquid-applied membrane is required. The product is supplied as a pre-weighed kit — base, hardener and a Nitoflor colour pack — every component of which carries reactive elements essential to correct cure, so on-site dilution or thinning is not permitted. A defining characteristic of FC400 UH is that it is available in dark colours only: the polyurethane will yellow on exposure to UV (even daylight through glazing), so it is positioned for internal, low-UV process areas rather than colour-critical or sunlit floors. For Indian contractors, consultants and facility owners, it occupies the gap between a basic epoxy floor coating and a heavy-duty PU screed — offering genuine chemical resistance and a seamless, jointless-looking finish at a coating (not screed) build, with optional anti-slip texturing to meet wet-area safety requirements.
The technical insight
The engineering value of FC400 UH lies in its hybrid-polyurethane backbone, which combines the chemical resistance of PU with practical site behaviour. Verified datasheet values place Shore D hardness at 75 and bond strength at 2.0 N/mm2 (ASTM D4541) failing in the concrete rather than at the interface — meaning adhesion exceeds the tensile strength of the substrate itself, the ideal outcome for a resin floor. Water absorption is just 0.06% (ASTM C413), and the cured film passes thermal-shock testing (ASTM C884M) with post-shock adhesion of 2.5 N/mm2, plus freeze-thaw resistance with no cracking or debonding down to a -5 degrees C minimum temperature at 400-micron DFT. Chemical resistance was established to ASTM D543 over 168 hours (7 days) at 23 degrees C, returning “Resistant” against concentrated hydrochloric acid, 70% sulphuric acid, 50% sodium hydroxide, oleic and lactic acids, petrol, kerosene, engine oil, Skydrol and bleach, among others. Reaction kinetics are temperature-sensitive: pot life is 40 minutes at 25 degrees C but only 20 minutes at 35 degrees C, with full cure in 24 hours (25 degrees C) versus 18 hours (35 degrees C) — a crucial planning factor for Indian site conditions where slab and ambient temperatures swing seasonally.
Where it is used
- Cold rooms and chilled-storage floors operating down to -5 degrees C
- Dairy plants, milk-processing halls and creameries
- Soft-drink and beverage bottling/production facilities
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing plants and clean process areas
- Chemical manufacturing and blending floors exposed to acids, alkalis and solvents

Key advantages
- Solvent-free with no application odour — suitable for plant shut-down and occupied-facility works
- Broad verified chemical resistance to acids, alkalis, solvents, oils and grease (ASTM D543, 7 days)
- Hard-wearing and abrasion-resistant with Shore D 75 hardness for durable, low-maintenance service
- Excellent adhesion: 2.0 N/mm2 bond strength failing in the concrete, not the bond line
- Very low water absorption (0.06%) and proven freeze-thaw and thermal-shock performance to -5 degrees C
- Liquid-applied seamless finish that is easy to clean and supports hygiene compliance
- Optional anti-slip texture via Nitoflor Antislip Grains to suit wet or greasy areas
- Non-flammable coating components, improving site fire safety during application
Limitations & considerations
- Available in dark colours only and will yellow / change colour under UV — not for sunlit or colour-critical floors
- Not a thick-build screed: at ~400 microns it is a coating, so it will not bridge moving cracks or rebuild damaged slabs
- Must not be applied over rising damp, potential osmosis or substrates above 75% relative humidity
- Short pot life (20 minutes at 35 degrees C) demands disciplined batch sizing in hot Indian conditions
- Requires a sound, clean, ~28-day-cured concrete slab with moisture content below 5% and proper priming
- Some chemicals may cause loss of gloss or colour change even where protective performance is retained
- Fosroc does not recommend acid etching for surface preparation; mechanical preparation is preferred
Selection & best practice
Always begin with a slab assessment: confirm at least 28 days of cure, moisture content below 5% and relative humidity under 75% (thermohygrometer), then mechanically prepare — captive-shot blasting or diamond grinding — rather than acid etching, and vacuum off all dust. Prime with Nitocote Primer Sealer, applying a second priming coat to porous patches that flash off, and allow it to reach a tack-free state before coating. In Delhi NCR summers, mix only what your team can lay within the temperature-adjusted pot life (as little as 20 minutes at 35 degrees C), add the colour pack and mix at least 3 minutes with a slow-speed flameproof paddle, and never add thinners. Lay the first top coat at a minimum 200 microns (250 microns if broadcasting anti-slip grains), respect the maximum recoat window — 36 hours at 20 degrees C, only 15 hours at 35 degrees C — and ensure the second coat fully seals any textured surface. Continue all substrate expansion joints up through the coating using a Fosroc flooring-grade joint sealant, and protect the new floor from foot traffic for 24 hours and full traffic for 48 hours at 25 degrees C.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC400 UH
Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, FC400 UH sits as a chemical-resistant coating-grade option above thinner epoxy seal coats such as Nitoflor FC150, but below the heavy-duty cementitious PU screeds (the Nitoflor Lithurin / Fosroc Polyurethane HF/RT screed family) that are specified where impact, thermal shock from steam cleaning, and several-millimetre build are needed. Typical companion products on a Space Arc specification include Nitocote Primer Sealer (the recommended primer), Nitoflor Antislip Grains for textured wet areas, the Nitoflor EU repair range for patching, and Nitoflor Sol for tool cleaning. Where a colour-stable or UV-exposed finish is mandatory, an aliphatic PU or a UV-stable epoxy topcoat should be considered instead, since FC400 UH yellows in sunlight. Credible alternatives that Indian consultants commonly evaluate alongside it are Sika’s Sikafloor PU and PurCem chemical-resistant systems, MBCC/Master Builders Solutions Ucrete and MasterTop PU floors, STP Limited’s polyurethane flooring range, and — at the lighter-duty, value end — Dr. Fixit / Pidilite floor coatings. FC400 UH’s strongest case is hygiene-critical, chemically aggressive internal floors (dairy, pharma, cold storage, effluent) where a solvent-free, low-odour, broadly chemical-resistant coating can be installed during shutdowns; for sunlit, colour-critical or thick-build/impact-heavy floors, a screed-grade or UV-stable alternative is the better specification.
