Fosroc Nitomortar SS
High-strength, fast-setting epoxy paste adhesive for fixing road studs and traffic markers, filling cracks and holes in concrete, and sealing crack faces ahead of injection grouting.
What is it?
A two-part, solvent-free epoxy paste adhesive from Fosroc that develops adhesive strength rapidly, used to bond road studs and traffic markers and to fill or seal cracks, holes and surface imperfections in concrete.
Where is it used?
Highways and road networks, bridge decks, airport pavements, car parks, industrial floors and repair sites across India where studs, markers or crack sealing are required.
Why use it?
It sets fast to minimise lane closure and downtime, grips most building substrates strongly in tension and shear, and is mixed and applied with minimal waste straight on site.
How is it applied?
The base and hardener are mixed to a uniform paste, then trowelled or buttered onto a clean, sound, dry substrate to bond a marker, fill a defect, or seal a crack face and embed injection nipples.
About Fosroc Nitomortar SS
Fosroc Nitomortar SS is a high-strength epoxy paste adhesive engineered for jobs where a bond has to hold quickly and reliably on concrete, stone, metal and other common construction substrates. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Nitomortar family of epoxy repair and bonding compounds, but it is positioned specifically as a fast-set adhesive paste rather than a bulk reinstatement mortar. The product is supplied as a two-component system, a resin base and a hardener, that are combined on site to produce a thick, non-sag paste ready for immediate use.
The headline application is fixing traffic markers and road studs (cat’s eyes) to carriageways. This is a demanding duty: the adhesive must develop grip fast enough to release traffic quickly, yet bond strongly enough to survive repeated wheel loading, vibration, thermal cycling and water exposure. Beyond road furniture, Nitomortar SS doubles as a versatile site repair paste, filling cracks, blow-holes, honeycombing and minor imperfections in concrete surfaces, and as an ancillary product in crack-injection work, where it is used to seal the external face of a crack and to bond surface-mounted injection nipples, ports and packers before low-viscosity resin is pumped in.
For contractors, consultants, architects, engineers and procurement teams in India, the appeal of Nitomortar SS is its combination of speed, strength and simplicity. Because it is a pre-batched two-part system, there is no aggregate to gauge and no guesswork on mix proportions, which reduces wastage and the risk of an under-cured or weak mix on site. Space Arc Engineering supplies Nitomortar SS as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, with technical support across Delhi NCR and pan-India, so specifiers can match the right Nitomortar grade to the actual repair rather than over- or under-specifying.
The technical insight
Nitomortar SS is built on a solvent-free epoxy resin chemistry, the same broad family that underpins Fosroc’s Nitomortar and Nitobond epoxy products. In service terms this matters in three ways. First, a cured epoxy adhesive gives high tensile and shear strength with very low shrinkage, which is what lets a small footprint of paste hold a road stud against repeated impact and lateral loading. Second, solvent-free epoxies bond tenaciously to clean, sound concrete and to metals, so the same product works for both the stud-to-road interface and for bonding steel injection packers. Third, the cured film is dense and largely impermeable, giving good resistance to water ingress and to many chemicals once fully cured.
The practical engineering points are substrate preparation and temperature. Epoxy adhesion is governed almost entirely by the cleanliness, soundness and dryness of the surface: laitance, dust, oil, curing compounds and standing water must be removed so the resin keys onto solid material. Cure rate and pot life are temperature-dependent, which is significant in Indian conditions, the same mix that gives a workable open time in a Delhi winter will stiffen far faster on a summer afternoon in Rajasthan or coastal Gujarat, so mixed quantities should be sized to what can be placed before the paste begins to gel. Because exact pot life, cure schedule and strength figures vary by formulation and ambient temperature, the current Fosroc Nitomortar SS Technical Data Sheet for your region should be treated as the binding source for those numbers on any specified job.
Where it is used
- Bonding road studs (cat’s eyes) and reflective traffic markers to bituminous and concrete carriageways
- Fixing delineators, lane markers and road furniture where rapid trafficking is needed
- Filling cracks, blow-holes, honeycombing and surface imperfections in concrete
- Sealing the external face of cracks prior to low-pressure or low-viscosity epoxy injection
- Bonding surface-mounted injection nipples, ports and packers ahead of crack injection
- Small-scale, fast-turnaround patch repairs to horizontal and vertical concrete surfaces
- Spot bonding of metal fixings and fittings to sound concrete substrates
Key advantages
- Rapid development of adhesive strength, helping release roads and work areas back into service quickly
- High tensile and shear strength once cured, suitable for impact- and vibration-loaded road studs
- Excellent adhesion to most common building substrates including concrete, stone and metal
- Solvent-free epoxy chemistry with low shrinkage and a dense, durable cured paste
- Two-part, pre-proportioned system, simple to mix on site with minimal waste and no aggregate gauging
- Non-sag paste consistency that stays put on vertical and overhead crack faces
- Multi-purpose, one product covers stud fixing, crack filling and injection sealing/nipple bonding
Limitations & considerations
- Pot life and cure rate are temperature-sensitive, mix only what can be placed before the paste gels, especially in hot Indian summers
- Adhesion depends entirely on substrate preparation, surfaces must be clean, sound, dry and free of oil, dust, laitance and curing compounds
- Intended as a fast-set adhesive and crack/hole-filling paste, not a bulk structural reinstatement mortar, use a Nitomortar repair-mortar grade for larger volumes and thicker sections
- Not a substitute for the injection resin itself in crack-injection systems, it seals and bonds the ports while a low-viscosity grade fills the crack
- Epoxy can yellow and is not UV-stable for decorative finishes, so it is a structural/functional adhesive, not a cosmetic topping
- Application in very low temperatures slows cure and may need warming of substrate and materials
- Confirm exact mix ratio, coverage, pot life and pack sizes against the current region-specific Fosroc TDS before specifying
Selection & best practice
Prepare the substrate first: remove all dust, laitance, oil, grease, curing compounds and loose material, and ensure the surface is sound and dry, mechanical abrasion or grit blasting gives the most reliable key. Mix the full base and hardener together thoroughly to a uniform colour and consistency, scraping the sides of the container so no unmixed material is left, and only mix as much as can be placed within the pot life for the prevailing temperature. For road studs, butter the paste onto the stud base and bed it firmly so excess squeezes out around the edges, then leave undisturbed and protect from traffic until adhesive strength has developed. For crack and hole filling, press the paste firmly into the prepared defect to exclude air voids and strike off flush. For injection work, use the paste to seal the crack face and to fix nipples securely, allowing it to cure before pumping injection resin. Work within the temperature range and cure times given on the current Fosroc Nitomortar SS TDS, protect fresh work from rain and water until cured, and clean tools with the recommended solvent immediately after use, before the epoxy hardens. Always follow the SDS for handling, PPE and skin-contact precautions.

How we position Fosroc Nitomortar SS
Within Fosroc’s concrete-repair portfolio, Nitomortar SS sits at the fast adhesive end of the Nitomortar family. Where Nitomortar S, AP, PE and the FC grades are reinstatement and patch mortars for rebuilding concrete sections, Nitomortar SS is the quick-grip paste for bonding road studs and markers and for crack sealing. It naturally pairs with Fosroc’s crack-injection systems (low-viscosity epoxies such as the Nitofill/Conbextra LV resins) where it seals the crack face and fixes the nipples before resin is pumped, and with Nitobond EP epoxy bonding agent on larger repairs. On a typical RCC rehabilitation job a specifier might use Nitomortar SS to seal and port a crack, an injection resin to fill it, and a Nitomortar reinstatement grade or Renderoc mortar to rebuild any spalled cover, a coherent Fosroc system rather than mixed brands. Credible alternatives a consultant may evaluate include Sika’s epoxy adhesive pastes (the Sikadur range, e.g. Sikadur-31 for bonding and sealing), MBS/MYK and Dr. Fixit epoxy bonding and repair products, and STP (Shalimar/Krishna Conchem-type) epoxy mortars and adhesives widely used in the Indian market. These compete on the same chemistry; the decision usually comes down to verified TDS performance for the specific duty, local availability and applicator support. Space Arc Engineering’s value is matching the correct Fosroc grade to the actual repair and backing it with application support, so the specified product performs as intended on site.
