Product Overview
Nitoproof 100 is a crystalline waterproofing treatment for concrete structures that works by a fundamentally different mechanism from membrane-based waterproofing systems. Rather than creating a barrier on the surface of the concrete, Nitoproof 100 penetrates into the concrete matrix and reacts with moisture and free calcium ions in the capillary pore system to form insoluble crystalline hydrates that permanently fill and block capillary pores throughout the depth of the concrete. The crystals are themselves an inorganic part of the concrete matrix — they cannot be peeled off, delaminated, or punctured. Importantly, the crystalline reaction is self-sealing: in the presence of moisture and water, the crystals continue to grow and re-seal any new micro-cracks that may form during the life of the structure, making Nitoproof 100 a truly self-healing waterproofing system. It can be applied to positive (exterior) and negative (interior) faces of concrete and can also be used as an admixture to the concrete mix for integral waterproofing. Used widely in India for water retaining structures, basements, tunnels, and rehabilitation of leaking concrete structures. How does crystalline waterproofing differ from a membrane system?
Membrane systems (such as Brushbond TGP or Nitoproof 600) create a physical barrier on the surface of the concrete through which water cannot pass. If the membrane is punctured, delaminated, or damaged, water can enter. Crystalline waterproofing with Nitoproof 100 works by filling the capillary pores within the concrete itself with insoluble crystals — the concrete becomes the waterproof barrier, not a coating on top of it. Crystalline treatment is ideal for below-grade negative-side application and for rehabilitation of leaking structures where external membrane application is not possible.
Can Nitoproof 100 be applied to wet or damp concrete?
Yes. Nitoproof 100 is specifically designed to be applied to pre-wetted (saturated surface dry) concrete. The presence of moisture is essential for the crystalline reaction to proceed. The substrate must be cleaned and dampened with clean water before application. Active water flow must be stopped with hydraulic cement or Nitofill UR63 before Nitoproof 100 is applied, as free-flowing water will wash the product away before it can react.
Is Nitoproof 100 safe for drinking water storage structures?
Yes. Nitoproof 100 is formulated to be safe for potable water contact after full curing. It complies with relevant standards for use in water storage and treatment structures. This makes it particularly valuable for internal waterproofing of drinking water tanks and reservoirs where many conventional membrane products are not approved for direct water contact.
