Fosroc Nitoproof 800
A seamless, UV-stable polyurethane waterproofing system that turns exposed balconies, podium decks and flat roofs into a durable, trafficable, crack-bridging surface.
What is it?
A polyurethane liquid-applied waterproofing and crack-bridging system, built up as a primer, a flexible Nitoproof 800 membrane and a UV-resistant topcoat to a nominal 1.4 mm thickness.
Where is it used?
Exposed concrete decks that must both waterproof and take foot or light traffic – balconies, walkways, flat roofs, podium decks, green roofs and equipment plinths; the membrane alone also tanks below-ground structures.
Why use it?
It stays seamless with no laps to fail, bridges shrinkage and thermal cracks, resists UV and weathering without going brittle, and carries a genuine root-barrier certification for planted decks.
How is it applied?
Trowel or squeegee applied by trained crews – prime the deck, back-roll the membrane, then finish with the UVR topcoat, with anti-slip grains broadcast in where a skid-resistant surface is wanted.
About Fosroc Nitoproof 800
Fosroc Nitoproof 800 answers a very specific problem that ordinary tanking products cannot: waterproofing a concrete deck that is left open to the sun, rain and foot traffic. Bituminous coatings crack and soften under UV, and loose-laid sheet membranes rely on seams and detailing that fail at upstands and penetrations. Nitoproof 800 is instead a fully bonded, cold liquid-applied polyurethane system that cures into one continuous elastic skin over the whole deck, wrapping around drains, columns and upstands without a single joint. On an exposed application it is built as three layers – Nitoprime UR FS primer, the Nitoproof 800 membrane and a Nitoproof UVR topcoat – to a nominal 1.4 mm total thickness, and that colour-stable topcoat is what lets the finished surface live outdoors for years without the membrane below it degrading.
For Indian projects the appeal is that one system covers several jobs at once. It waterproofs, it takes light pedestrian and medium-duty traffic, it accepts an anti-slip finish for wet balconies and walkways, and it is certified as a root barrier so it can sit under the growing medium of a landscaped podium or green roof. Below ground, the same Nitoproof 800 membrane can be used on its own as a stand-alone tanking membrane where UV protection is not needed. Space Arc supplies the complete system – primer, membrane, topcoat and Nitoflor FC anti-slip grains – as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, so specifiers get matched components rather than a mix of makes that voids the warranty.
The technical insight
The performance comes from separating the two demands a deck coating faces – movement and exposure – and giving each to a different layer. The Nitoproof 800 membrane is a flexible polyurethane with roughly 100% elongation at break and a soft Shore D 20 hardness, so it stretches over live shrinkage and thermal cracks in the slab instead of splitting the way a rigid coating would. Because it is chemically bonded to the primed concrete (bond strength around 2.3 MPa to concrete, well above the 1.5 MPa EN 1542 benchmark), water cannot track sideways underneath it, so a pinhole never becomes a spreading leak the way it does under an unbonded sheet. Sitting on top, the harder Nitoproof UVR topcoat (Shore D 40) takes the abrasion and the sunlight, having passed 1000 hours of BS EN 1062-11 UV testing with no blistering, cracking or flaking. That two-layer logic – a stretchy waterproofer protected by a tough, UV-stable wearing coat – is why the system stays watertight on a moving, sun-baked roof long after a single-coat product would have embrittled and cracked.
Where it is used
- Waterproofing exposed concrete balconies and cantilevered walkways in residential and commercial towers
- Flat-roof and terrace waterproofing where the surface stays open to sun and rain
- Podium decks and transfer slabs above basements and parking
- Green roofs and landscaped decks, using the membrane’s root-barrier certification
- Equipment and plant plinths, including wind-turbine base plinths
- Below-ground tanking, using the Nitoproof 800 membrane alone as a stand-alone waterproofing layer
- Light pedestrian trafficable surfaces finished with Nitoflor FC anti-slip grains for wet or sloped areas
- Overcoating sound existing decks of timber, asphalt, slate, stone or felt after abrasion and adhesion testing
Key advantages
- Seamless and fully bonded – no laps, seams or overlaps to fail at upstands, drains and penetrations
- High elongation (about 100% on the membrane) bridges shrinkage and thermal cracks in the deck
- UV and weather stable – the UVR topcoat passes 1000 hrs BS EN 1062-11 with no cracking or flaking
- Certified root barrier to CEN/TS 14416, so it works under green-roof growing media
- Good chemical resistance to motor oil, diesel, petrol, kerosene, brake fluid and hydraulic oil
- Durable wear surface – only 0.4 g loss over 1000 Taber abrasion cycles
- Fast-track programme – foot traffic in around 12 hours and medium-duty traffic in about 2 days at 20 C
- Cold liquid-applied with no hot works, and a slip-resistant, colour-stable finish in six standard shades
Limitations & considerations
- Not for permanently submerged, hydrostatic or rising-damp conditions – consult Fosroc where osmosis or rising damp may exist
- Application window is 5-40 C, above 90% RH is out, and the surface must stay at least 3 C above dew point
- Concrete must be at least 28 days old, minimum 25 MPa strength, with moisture content below 75% RH before coating
- Skilled, trained applicators are needed – it is a mixed, multi-coat trowel/squeegee system, not a simple brush paint
- The UVR topcoat can fade slightly over time under strong UV, and colour may vary between batches, so single-batch finishing per area is advised
- For car-park decks subject to heavy vehicular traffic, Fosroc’s dedicated Nitodek range is the correct product, not Nitoproof 800
Selection & best practice
Get the substrate right first: the deck must be at least 28 days cured, minimum 25 MPa, dry to below 75% RH, and abrasive-blasted to remove laitance, with blowholes filled using Nitomortar FC and all cracks, joints and upstands detailed on Fosroc’s advice before any coating goes down. Prime with Nitoprime UR FS at 10 m2 per 2 kg pack and let it cure about 4 hours; if the primer is left more than 48 hours, remove and re-prime. Mix each component – drain the full hardener into the base and power-mix at least 3 minutes – and use it within the 20-minute working life, so mix only what a crew can lay immediately. Apply the membrane by notched trowel or squeegee and back-roll to an even film (roughly 9 m2 per 10 kg pack); broadcast Nitoflor FC anti-slip grains into the wet coat where a skid-resistant walkway is needed. Overcoat with the UVR topcoat within the 4-48 hour window. Never coat if rain is imminent or the surface is within 3 C of dew point, keep fresh work protected through the tack-free period, and take the topcoat for any one area from a single batch to avoid visible colour banding.

Industry use cases
Residential & Commercial Towers
Seamless waterproofing of exposed balconies, terraces and cantilevered walkways where the surface is trafficked and must stay leak-free and slip-safe in monsoon conditions.
Podium & Landscape Decks
Tanking podium decks and transfer slabs above basements and parking, with the CEN/TS 14416 root barrier allowing planting and green-roof build-ups directly over the membrane.
Institutional & Hospitality Roofs
UV-stable flat-roof and terrace waterproofing for hotels, hospitals and campuses that need a durable, cleanable, colour-finished deck rather than a hidden membrane.
Industrial & Infrastructure
Coating equipment plinths, plant decks and wind-turbine base plinths, using the system’s abrasion and chemical resistance to oils, diesel and hydraulic fluid.
Below-Ground Structures
Using the Nitoproof 800 membrane on its own as a stand-alone tanking layer for concealed, non-UV-exposed below-grade concrete.

How we position Fosroc Nitoproof 800
Nitoproof 800 is Fosroc’s answer for exposed, trafficked decks that need to both waterproof and take wear – balconies, podiums and flat roofs. For hot-climate roofs and high-temperature exposure common across India, its sister system Nitoproof 800HT is the tuned equivalent. Where the deck is concealed and below ground, a cheaper bitumen-polymer coating such as Fosroc Nitoproof 600 or the fibre-reinforced Nitoproof 120 is the sensible choice, since UV stability is not needed there. For heavy car-park decking, move up to the Fosroc Nitodek range. Structural cracks and joints in the slab should be treated first with Fosroc’s Nitoseal sealants and Nitomortar repair mortars, and for entirely different chemistries we also stock Dr. Fixit and Sika liquid-applied membranes – Space Arc will match the right build-up to the exposure rather than force one product onto every deck.
