Fosroc Nitoproof UVR Topcoat
A two-component, high-solids, colour-stable polyurethane topcoat that protects and finishes Fosroc Nitoproof 800 and Polyurea WPE waterproofing membranes against UV, weathering and light-to-medium foot traffic.
What is it?
A roller-applied, two-component, high-solids, flexible polyurethane topcoat that is colour-stable, UV-resistant and flame-retardant. It is not a standalone waterproofer but the finishing/protective wear coat for Fosroc liquid-applied membrane systems.
Where is it used?
Exposed roofs, terraces, balconies, podiums and walkways where a Fosroc Nitoproof 800 or Polyurea WPE membrane has been installed and needs UV protection plus a coloured, trafficable finish.
Why use it?
Many high-performance membranes (especially polyurea and aromatic PU) discolour and chalk under sunlight. The UVR Topcoat seals that membrane with an aliphatic, colour-stable, fire-rated layer that extends service life and improves appearance and slip behaviour.
How is it applied?
Applied by roller or squeegee over a cured, primed membrane as a minimum 0.2 mm film to achieve full opacity, within the system’s recoat window (up to 48 hours over polyurea before re-priming is needed).
About Fosroc Nitoproof UVR Topcoat
Fosroc Nitoproof UVR Topcoat is a specialist finishing coat within the Fosroc liquid-applied waterproofing range, and it is important for contractors and consultants in India to understand exactly what it is and what it is not. It is a two-component, high-solids, flexible polyurethane coating that is colour-stable (UV-resistant) and flame-retardant. The “UVR” in the name signals its core purpose: ultraviolet resistance. It is applied by roller as the topmost, sacrificial wear-and-protection layer of a multi-coat system; it does not, on its own, provide the primary waterproofing barrier.
The product exists because the high-performance membranes it sits on top of are vulnerable to sunlight. Fosroc’s spray-applied Polyurea WPE and the roller-applied Nitoproof 800 system deliver excellent crack-bridging and mechanical waterproofing, but aromatic polyurea and many PU membranes chalk, yellow and lose gloss when exposed to direct UV. Nitoproof UVR Topcoat is engineered to be the aliphatic, light-stable seal over those membranes, locking in colour, adding abrasion resistance for light-to-medium foot traffic, and contributing a fire rating to the overall build-up.
For a typical exposed-roof or balcony specification in Delhi NCR or anywhere in India, the UVR Topcoat is the final step: prepare and prime the substrate, apply the Nitoproof 800 or Polyurea WPE membrane to the required thickness, then roller-apply the UVR Topcoat at a minimum 0.2 mm film to reach 100% opacity and the chosen RAL colour. Because it is supplied pre-pigmented in standard RAL shades, it also gives architects a defined, repeatable colour for visible terrace and podium surfaces rather than the raw grey or black of the membrane below.
Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies the complete Fosroc system, not just the topcoat in isolation, which matters: the UVR Topcoat is only warranted and only performs as intended when used as the designated topcoat for its parent membrane systems.
The technical insight
The defining technical point is chemistry. Nitoproof UVR Topcoat is a colour-stable polyurethane, which in practice means an aliphatic PU formulation, the family of polyurethanes that does not yellow or chalk under UV, unlike the cheaper aromatic PUs used in many bulk membranes. That single property is the entire reason the product exists: it lets a UV-vulnerable membrane (Polyurea WPE or Nitoproof 800) survive years of direct Indian sun without cosmetic or surface degradation. As a two-component, high-solids system it cures by chemical reaction rather than solvent flash-off, so the applied 0.2 mm film stays close to that thickness when dry and there is minimal shrinkage. The flame-retardant grade is what earns the BS 476 Part 3 EXT.F.AA external fire rating when combined with the Nitoproof 800 system, a genuine differentiator on projects where roof fire performance is specified. The 48-hour open time over polyurea is also a deliberate practical feature: polyurea cures in seconds, and without a long recoat window the topcoat would have to be applied almost immediately; the chemistry here tolerates a two-day gap before the membrane must be reactivated or re-primed, which is a real benefit on large or weather-interrupted roofs.
Where it is used
- UV protection and colour-stable finishing of Fosroc Polyurea WPE spray-applied waterproofing on exposed roofs
- Topcoat for the roller-applied Fosroc Nitoproof 800 roof and balcony waterproofing system
- Exposed terraces, balconies and podium decks needing a coloured, trafficable wear surface
- Walkways and light-to-medium pedestrian traffic areas over a liquid membrane
- Roof areas where an external fire rating (BS 476-3 EXT.F.AA) is specified, in conjunction with Nitoproof 800
- Visible architectural roof and deck surfaces where a defined RAL colour is required over the membrane
Key advantages
- Colour-stable, UV-resistant aliphatic polyurethane that resists yellowing and chalking under direct sunlight
- Protects and extends the service life of the underlying Polyurea WPE or Nitoproof 800 membrane
- Flame-retardant; contributes to a BS 476-3 EXT.F.AA external fire rating with the Nitoproof 800 system
- High-solids, two-component formulation gives a seamless, monolithic, low-shrinkage finish
- Light-to-medium-duty trafficable, adding abrasion resistance and a usable wear surface
- Long 48-hour open time over polyurea, giving practical recoat flexibility on large roofs
- Available in a range of standard RAL colours for defined architectural finishes
- Roller/squeegee applied, so no specialist spray plant is needed for the topcoat stage
Limitations & considerations
- Not a standalone waterproofing membrane; it must be used over Fosroc Nitoproof 800 or Polyurea WPE
- Designed for light-to-medium foot traffic only, not vehicular or heavy industrial loading
- Minimum 0.2 mm film must be achieved for full opacity and colour; thin or patchy application shows through
- Recoat window over polyurea is limited to ~48 hours before reactivation/re-priming is required
- Two-component product with a short pot life (around 20 minutes), so mixed material must be used promptly
- Requires a minimum substrate/ambient temperature (around 5 C) and dry conditions during application and cure
- Performance and any warranty depend on correct installation of the full Fosroc system, not the topcoat alone
Selection & best practice
Always specify and apply Nitoproof UVR Topcoat as part of the complete Fosroc system, never in isolation. Confirm the parent membrane (Nitoproof 800 or Polyurea WPE) is correctly installed, cured and clean, and that any required primer (e.g. Nitoprime UR FS) has been used per the relevant Fosroc Method Statement. Mix only the quantity that can be applied within the pot life (about 20 minutes at 20 C), and roller-apply to a uniform minimum 0.2 mm film to guarantee 100% opacity and even colour. Respect the recoat window: over polyurea, apply within 48 hours or reactivate/re-prime the surface first. Apply above the minimum temperature, avoid rain and dew during cure, and keep the surface off light foot traffic for roughly 12 hours and off service traffic for 2 to 3 days at 20 C. For exact coverage, primer selection and fire-rating build-up, follow the current India TDS and Method Statement, or contact Space Arc Engineering for a project-specific specification.

How we position Fosroc Nitoproof UVR Topcoat
Within the Fosroc range, Nitoproof UVR Topcoat is best understood as the dedicated finishing partner to two systems: the spray-applied Fosroc Polyurea WPE membrane and the roller-applied Fosroc Nitoproof 800 system (often used with Fosroc primers such as Nitoprime UR FS). It is not interchangeable with those membranes; it completes them. Against competitor systems, the comparable approach is to pair a high-performance membrane with an aliphatic UV topcoat, for example Sika’s Sikalastic liquid systems with their PU UV topcoats, or BASF/MBCC (MasterSeal) traffic-deck systems with aliphatic seal coats. In the Indian market, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP (Shalimar/STP Ltd) offer roof and deck waterproofing systems, though these are generally positioned around acrylic and PU membrane build-ups rather than a like-for-like UV-stable polyurea topcoat. Where a project demands the speed and crack-bridging of polyurea plus genuine colour stability and a BS 476 external fire rating, the Fosroc Polyurea WPE/Nitoproof 800 + UVR Topcoat combination is a strong, well-documented specification. Space Arc Engineering’s honest guidance is to select the topcoat only as part of its parent Fosroc system; if a competing membrane (Sika, MBS/MasterSeal, Dr. Fixit, STP) is already specified, use that manufacturer’s matched UV topcoat rather than mixing brands, since warranties and fire ratings depend on the complete, single-source build-up.
