What is it?

A single-component, lightweight, polymer-modified cementitious repair mortar formulated with lightweight fillers so it resists sag and slump on overhead and vertical concrete.

Where is it used?

Beam and slab soffits, bridge girders, parking-structure undersides, tunnel linings, columns and vertical faces where patch repair is needed.

Why use it?

Its reduced fresh density lets you build 10-40 mm per layer overhead without formwork, while polymer modification gives strong bond and lower permeability.

How is it applied?

Prime the saturated substrate with a Nitobond bonding aid, gauge the powder with clean water to a cohesive consistency, then trowel or wet-spray in controlled lifts and cure.

About Fosroc Renderoc L

Fosroc Renderoc L belongs to the Renderoc family of concrete repair mortars, and it is built for the one job every site engineer dreads: patching concrete you have to work against gravity. It arrives as a single-component powder blended with lightweight filler aggregates and a polymer modifier. You add only clean water on site, which removes the guesswork and site-batching errors that plague hand-mixed sand-cement patches. The lightweight aggregate blend is the whole point of the product. By dropping the fresh density into roughly the 1600-1800 kg/m3 range, the mortar carries less of its own weight while it is still green, so it clings to a soffit or a vertical face instead of sliding off before it sets.

For Indian contractors and consultants, that translates into fewer coats, faster turnaround, and repairs that pass inspection the first time. Renderoc L handles the everyday reinstatement work on beams, slabs, girders and columns where spalled cover concrete has to be made good after the reinforcement has been cleaned and treated. It sits alongside heavier-build members of the range for deep or highly loaded repairs, but for routine 10-40 mm overhead and vertical patching it is the pragmatic, cost-controlled choice. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical backup on substrate prep, priming and curing so the system performs as specified rather than just as delivered.

The technical insight

The engineering trick behind Renderoc L is managing wet weight, not just cured strength. A conventional repair mortar placed overhead has to fight its own mass during the critical window between placing and initial set; if the fresh density is too high, the mortar sags, debonds at the interface, or simply drops. By substituting part of the mineral aggregate with lightweight fillers, Renderoc L lowers that fresh density so gravity has less to pull on, and the polymer modification raises early cohesion and green strength so the mortar holds its section. The same polymer film that gives it grab also densifies the cured matrix, reducing permeability to water, chlorides and carbon dioxide, which is exactly what matters when the repair is protecting embedded steel from further corrosion. Bond strength to a properly prepared, primed substrate is typically above 1.5 MPa, and because the material is factory-blended you get consistent behaviour lift after lift rather than the variability of site mixes.

Where it is used

  • Overhead soffit repair of bridge beams, slabs and girders
  • Underside (soffit) repair of parking-structure decks and ramps
  • Reinstatement of spalled cover concrete on building slabs and beams
  • Tunnel-lining and underground-structure soffit repairs
  • Vertical repair of columns, piers and structural walls
  • Making good after reinforcement cleaning and anti-corrosion priming
  • Patch repair of carbonation and chloride-induced spalling
  • General non-structural to light structural reprofiling on faces where formwork is impractical

Key advantages

  • Lightweight formulation resists sag and slump on overhead and vertical work
  • Builds 10-40 mm per layer without formwork, cutting coats and cycle time
  • Single-component: add water only, so no site-batching errors
  • High early cohesion holds section during the critical green stage
  • Polymer modification lowers permeability to water, chloride and CO2
  • Typical bond strength above 1.5 MPa to a primed substrate
  • Trowel or wet-spray application to suit access and volume
  • Compatible with the Fosroc Nitobond primer and wider Renderoc system

Limitations & considerations

  • Not a high-load structural grout or a deep-section pour; heavy or thick builds need a higher-build Renderoc grade
  • Overhead single-coat thickness is limited (typically around 20-30 mm) and must be built up in lifts
  • Requires a sound, saturated-surface-dry substrate and a bonding primer; it will not compensate for poor preparation
  • Cementitious and susceptible to plastic shrinkage if not cured properly in Indian heat and wind
  • Water dosage must be controlled; over-gauging kills the sag resistance and lowers strength
  • Exposed repairs generally need an overcoat or anti-carbonation coating for long-term durability in aggressive environments

Selection & best practice

Success with Renderoc L is decided before the mortar goes on. Break out all loose and delaminated concrete to a sound edge, expose and clean the reinforcement, and treat the steel with a Fosroc zinc-rich primer where cover has been compromised. Bring the substrate to a saturated-surface-dry condition and apply a Nitobond bonding aid so the mortar keys into the parent concrete rather than the other primed. Gauge only with clean water at the recommended ratio and mix mechanically to a uniform, cohesive consistency; do not add extra water to make it easier to spread, because that is what causes overhead sag. Place in controlled lifts within the stated per-layer thickness, working the first pass firmly into the primed surface, and key each layer before the next. Finish, then cure diligently with wet hessian, curing membrane or ponding, which is non-negotiable in the heat and wind common across Delhi NCR and much of India. Protect exposed repairs with an appropriate overcoat where the environment is aggressive.

Frequently asked questions

What makes Renderoc L different from a standard repair mortar?
It uses lightweight filler aggregates to reduce fresh density, so it resists sagging on overhead and vertical surfaces where a normal, denser mortar would slump or fall before setting.
How thick can I apply it overhead in one pass?
Build in layers of 10-40 mm, with overhead single coats typically around 20-30 mm. For greater depth, apply in successive lifts, keying each layer before the next.
Do I need a primer, or can I apply it straight onto concrete?
You need a bonding primer. Bring the substrate to saturated-surface-dry and apply a Fosroc Nitobond bonding aid so the mortar keys properly and achieves its bond strength; skipping this risks debonding.
Is Renderoc L a structural repair mortar?
It is intended for non-structural to light structural patch repair and reprofiling. For deep sections, heavy loads or high-build overhead work, a higher-build Renderoc grade such as Renderoc HB is more appropriate.
Can it be spray-applied for large areas?
Yes. Renderoc L can be trowel-applied for small patches or wet-sprayed for larger soffit areas, which speeds up production on bridges, car parks and tunnels.
Does Space Arc supply Renderoc L across India?
Yes. Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, and we provide technical guidance on preparation, priming and curing alongside supply.

How we position Fosroc Renderoc L

Renderoc L is the everyday lightweight patch-repair mortar in the Fosroc range. When the repair is deeper, more heavily loaded, or needs a very high build in a single overhead pass, step up to Fosroc Renderoc HB, which builds thicker on vertical and overhead surfaces without formwork. Both depend on a proper bond coat, so pair either with Fosroc Nitobond EP or the standard Nitobond bonding aid, and treat exposed reinforcement with a Fosroc zinc-rich primer before patching. For protecting completed repairs against carbonation and chloride ingress, follow with a Fosroc Dekguard anti-carbonation coating. Where clients specify an alternative brand, we also supply equivalent polymer-modified repair mortars from Sika (SikaTop / Sika MonoTop) and MC-Bauchemie (Nafufill) so the specification, not the label, drives the choice.
