Fosroc Renderoc SXtra
A shrinkage-controlled, polymer-modified structural repair mortar that uses Fosroc’s Dimensional Stability Technology to deliver durable, load-bearing reinstatement of damaged concrete in a single product.
What is it?
A ready-to-use, single-component cementitious repair mortar from Fosroc that is supplied as a dry blend and gauged on site with clean water. It is engineered for structural, load-bearing concrete repairs and carries Fosroc’s Dimensional Stability Technology to control drying shrinkage.
Where is it used?
Reinstating spalled and damaged reinforced concrete on columns, beams, soffits, slabs, walls, water-retaining structures, bridges, jetties and industrial buildings, on vertical, overhead and horizontal faces from 5 mm up to 100 mm thick.
Why use it?
It restores load-bearing capacity and durability in one product, while its shrinkage-control technology minimises the cracking and debonding that cause repairs to fail and need redoing.
How is it applied?
Saturate the prepared, saturated-surface-dry substrate, apply Fosroc’s zinc-rich/epoxy primer to exposed steel, mechanically or hand mix the powder with the specified clean water, then trowel-apply in lifts and cure immediately.
About Fosroc Renderoc SXtra
Fosroc Renderoc SXtra is a structural concrete repair mortar built around a clear field problem: ordinary patch repairs crack, curl and debond as they dry, so the repair fails long before the structure does. Supplied as a factory-controlled blend of cements, graded aggregates and performance polymers, it needs only the site addition of clean water to produce a cohesive, trowellable mortar suitable for most structural and load-bearing reinstatement. The defining feature is Fosroc’s Dimensional Stability Technology, which governs the rate of drying shrinkage so that the dimensions of the cured repair stay stable and shrinkage cracking is effectively eliminated. The practical pay-off is that repairs are more likely to be completed correctly the first time, without the rework, callbacks and warranty exposure that dog conventional mortars. Renderoc SXtra sits in the upper, structural tier of the Renderoc family, between the everyday Renderoc S hand-applied mortar and the high-strength Renderoc HSXtra micro-concrete, and shares the low-permeability, host-compatible chemistry that the Renderoc range is known for. For Indian conditions, where high ambient temperatures and aggressive coastal, industrial and urban-pollution exposures accelerate reinforcement corrosion and concrete distress, a mortar that controls shrinkage and resists chloride and carbon-dioxide ingress is particularly valuable. Space Arc Engineering supplies Renderoc SXtra as an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, alongside the associated primers, curing membranes and anti-carbonation coatings needed to deliver a complete, EN 1504-aligned repair system rather than a stand-alone patch.
The technical insight
The engineering core of Renderoc SXtra is shrinkage management. Every cementitious repair shrinks as it cures and dries; when that shrinkage is restrained by the surrounding hardened concrete and the embedded steel, tensile stresses build in the young mortar. If those stresses exceed the mortar’s early tensile capacity, the repair cracks or debonds at the interface, opening a path for water and chlorides straight back to the reinforcement. Fosroc’s Dimensional Stability Technology addresses this by controlling the RATE of drying shrinkage so peak stresses stay below the mortar’s developing strength, keeping the repair dimensionally stable and bonded. This works in tandem with a dense, low-permeability matrix that slows the ingress of chloride ions, carbon dioxide and moisture, raising the repaired zone to a protective standard comparable with sound host concrete. Fosroc characterises the Renderoc Xtra range against the BS 6319 series for compressive, flexural and bond strength, and the product’s structural, load-bearing positioning aligns it with the higher EN 1504-3 repair classes (R3/R4, where R4 requires a 28-day compressive strength of at least 45 MPa). Critically, durability here is a system property: Renderoc SXtra performs as designed only when the substrate is correctly cut back, steel is primed against corrosion, the mortar is applied at the right consistency, and curing limits early moisture loss — which is exactly why Fosroc treats priming and curing as integral steps rather than options.
Where it is used
- Reinstatement of spalled and delaminated cover concrete on reinforced columns, beams and slabs
- Soffit and overhead repairs to suspended floors, bridge decks and car-park structures
- Repair of corrosion-damaged concrete in coastal, marine and chloride-exposed environments
- Patch and full-depth repairs to water-retaining structures such as tanks, reservoirs and treatment plants
- Structural reinstatement of distressed industrial and warehouse RCC frames
- Repairs to balconies, parapets, chajjas and facade elements on high-rise buildings
- Restoration of carbonation- and pollution-damaged concrete in urban infrastructure
- Pre-overlay or pre-coating concrete repairs ahead of anti-carbonation or protective coating systems
Key advantages
- Dimensional Stability Technology controls drying shrinkage and minimises shrinkage cracking, helping repairs succeed first time
- Single-component, water-gauged powder that needs no on-site batching of separate liquids, reducing dosing errors
- Suitable for vertical, overhead and horizontal repairs over a wide build range (5-100 mm), covering most structural defects with one product
- Extremely low permeability resists chloride, carbon-dioxide and moisture ingress, extending the working life of the repair
- Performance and stiffness designed to be compatible with the host concrete, reducing differential-movement stresses
- Structural, load-bearing capability suited to reinstating reinforced concrete sections
- Part of a complete Fosroc repair system with matching primers, curing membranes and protective coatings
- Factory blending gives consistent, reproducible quality from pack to pack on site
Limitations & considerations
- Not a free-flowing micro-concrete; for congested reinforcement or pours requiring formwork, a flowable grade such as Renderoc HSXtra is more appropriate
- Performance depends on correct substrate cutting-back, edge preparation and reinforcement priming — poor preparation undermines the shrinkage and bond benefits
- Requires disciplined curing; rapid moisture loss in hot, dry or windy Indian site conditions can still induce surface cracking if curing is neglected
- Application thickness per layer and overall build must follow the datasheet — over-thick lifts on overhead or vertical faces risk slump
- Should not be applied below the manufacturer’s minimum temperature or onto frozen or actively wet/scouring surfaces
- Does not by itself provide a decorative or fully weatherproof finish; an anti-carbonation or protective coating is recommended for exposed facades
- As a structural repair material it does not address the root cause of corrosion unless combined with proper steel treatment and, where needed, cathodic or coating protection
Selection & best practice
Treat Renderoc SXtra as one step in a system, not a stand-alone patch. Saw-cut the repair perimeter to a clean square edge (avoid feather-edging), break out all loose and carbonated concrete to expose sound substrate, and cut back behind corroded reinforcement. Grit-blast or wire-brush exposed steel to bright metal and apply Fosroc’s zinc-rich/epoxy reinforcement primer. Pre-soak the substrate to a saturated-surface-dry condition with no standing water. Mix only full packs with the datasheet quantity of clean water using a forced-action mixer or slow-speed drill and paddle to a uniform, lump-free consistency, and place within the working time. Build up in controlled lifts, compacting well against primed steel and edges, and finish before initial set. Cure immediately and continuously — Fosroc Concure curing membrane or taped polythene sheeting — because in hot North-Indian and coastal climates uncontrolled drying is the single most common cause of repair cracking. Overcoat with an anti-carbonation or protective coating to bring the surrounding concrete up to the same protective standard. Always confirm grade selection, thickness limits and water demand against the current Fosroc technical data sheet for your region.

How we position Fosroc Renderoc SXtra
Renderoc SXtra is Fosroc’s shrinkage-controlled structural repair mortar and sits in the middle of the Renderoc ladder: above standard Renderoc S (general hand-applied repair) and below Renderoc HSXtra (high-strength flowable micro-concrete for congested or formed pours); Renderoc SP Xtra is the sprayed-application sibling for large areas. Choose SXtra when you need load-bearing, low-shrinkage hand or trowel repairs from 5-100 mm and want to minimise cracking and rework. Against the wider market, it competes with Sika MonoTop (e.g. MonoTop-412/4012) and Sikadur/SikaRep repair mortars, MBS (MYK/MC-Bauchemie) Emaco/MasterEmaco S-series structural mortars (BASF lineage), Dr. Fixit Krishna/Pidicrete repair mortars, and STP (Sika-acquired) polymer-modified mortars. Fosroc’s differentiator is the explicitly marketed Dimensional Stability Technology for shrinkage control plus a mature, EN 1504-aligned system of compatible primers, curing compounds and anti-carbonation coatings. For non-structural cosmetic patching, lighter grades (Renderoc S or competitor R2/R3 mortars) are more economical; for deep, reinforced, formwork-placed repairs, specify Renderoc HSXtra or an equivalent micro-concrete. Space Arc Engineering positions Renderoc SXtra for durability-critical, load-bearing concrete rehabilitation across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, and can cross-recommend the right Fosroc grade or alternative based on defect depth, exposure and access. Always verify final specification against the current regional Fosroc technical data sheet.
