Renderoc UW
Underwater and Wet Surface Cementitious Repair Mortar for Submerged Concrete
Authorized Project Distributor — Fosroc India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Renderoc UW is a specialist underwater-applicable, non-washout, single-component cementitious repair mortar from Fosroc designed for repair of deteriorated concrete in permanently submerged locations, tidal zones, and areas with continuous water presence where conventional repair mortars cannot be applied without dewatering. Conventional cementitious repair mortars applied in the presence of water suffer rapid washout — water flowing over or through fresh mortar carries away the cement paste before it can hydrate and set, leaving a weak sand-rich residue with no structural value. Renderoc UW is formulated with anti-washout admixtures that increase cohesion and viscosity of the cement paste, binding the mortar together sufficiently to resist water erosion during the critical early period before the cement hydrates and the mortar gains strength. This anti-washout characteristic allows the mortar to be applied by divers in submerged conditions, by bagging (squeezing mortar from a bag into the repair void while submerged), or by application in tidal zones during brief periods of low water, without the mortar being washed away before it sets. Once hardened, Renderoc UW achieves comparable compressive strength to conventional polymer-modified repair mortars and provides durable bond to the concrete substrate in the submerged environment. It is used for pile and pile cap repair in marine ports, repair of submerged weir and dam concrete, repair of underwater sluice gate frames, and repairs in water-retaining structures that cannot be emptied for repair works. Space Arc Engineering distributes Renderoc UW for marine, port, and hydraulic structure concrete repair projects across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Northern India.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does non-washout mean in practice for Renderoc UW and how is the mortar applied underwater?
Non-washout describes the resistance of the fresh mortar to erosion and disintegration when exposed to flowing or standing water before it has set. Standard cementitious mortars rely on their stiffness and enclosed formwork to remain in place during setting — in open water, water movement carries away the cement paste immediately. The anti-washout admixtures in Renderoc UW create a viscous cohesive mortar that holds together in water. In practice, the mortar is mixed on the surface to a stiff putty-like consistency and placed into a flexible bag, which is then lowered to the diver. The diver pushes the mortar from the bag into the repair void by squeezing the bag — the mortar stays in the void rather than dispersing in the water.
How does Renderoc UW achieve bond to wet and submerged concrete substrates?
Bond between a repair mortar and a concrete substrate requires intimate contact between the mortar and the aggregate particles in the substrate, with the cement paste bridging across the interface zone and bonding both surfaces as it hydrates. Renderoc UW is formulated with improved cement chemistry and bonding agents that achieve adequate bond strength even on saturated concrete substrates. The mortar is applied to a prepared (mechanically roughened and cleaned) wet substrate, and the chemical bond develops as the cement hydrates. Mechanical preparation of the substrate — by underwater chipping or water jetting to expose aggregate and remove weak or contaminated concrete — is essential for achieving the specified bond strength.
Can Renderoc UW be used for repairs in a swimming pool or water treatment reservoir that must be returned to service quickly?
Renderoc UW is suitable for use in water-retaining structures including swimming pools and water treatment reservoirs where the structure cannot be fully dewatered for repair. However, for potable water contact applications, the product must be confirmed as suitable for potable water contact — the water authority or project specification will require confirmation that the cured repair mortar does not leach harmful substances into treated water. Fosroc can confirm the potable water suitability of Renderoc UW for specific projects. For swimming pools, the repaired areas can typically be returned to service once the repair mortar has achieved adequate strength — 28 days cure is recommended before refilling to allow the cementitious mortar to stabilise before contact with pool water chemistry.
