Master Builders Solutions MasterPel 708
A chloride-free hydrophobic admixture dosed into the batching mix, built to give precast pavers, blocks and kerbs a water-repellent core and stop efflorescence before it starts.
What is it?
A liquid emulsion admixture that bonds a hydrophobic layer inside the pore walls of semi-dry, earth-moist precast concrete.
Where is it used?
Precast and manufactured-concrete-product plants making pavers, kerbstones, blocks, roof tiles and pipes on dry-cast presses.
Why use it?
Cuts capillary water absorption, stops efflorescence, keeps colour brighter and more uniform, with no strength or vapour-permeability penalty.
How is it applied?
Dosed with the final batching water at 0.2 to 1.0 litres per 100 kg of cement, confirmed by trial batch.
About Master Builders Solutions MasterPel 708
MasterPel 708 is a liquid emulsion admixture from Master Builders Solutions’ MasterPel range, built for manufacturers of semi-dry, earth-moist precast concrete: paving stones, kerbstones, blocks, roof tiles and pipes made on dry-cast presses rather than poured wet-mix RMC. Dosed into the batching water at 0.2 to 1.0 litres per 100 kg of cement, it forms a thin, chemically bonded hydrophobic lining on the pore walls of the hardened concrete, a departure from older fatty-acid hydrophobers that physically plug pores and choke vapour movement. MasterPel 708 protects without filling, so the unit still breathes.
The payoff shows at two points. On the plant floor, water no longer wicks calcium hydroxide and soluble salts to the surface as units cure, which is what causes the white efflorescence bloom that gets stock rejected or discounted. On the finished product, capillary absorption drops well below an untreated unit under EN 1338, 1339 and 1340 testing, and pigmented pavers come out brighter and more even. It is chloride-free and CE-marked to EN 934-2 as a water-resisting admixture, a specification-grade option for producers chasing export-quality or EN-benchmarked ranges out of India, sourced through Space Arc as an authorised Master Builders Solutions channel.
The technical insight
The distinction is chemical bonding versus pore-filling. Stearate or fatty-acid hydrophobers work mechanically, packing wax-like material into capillaries until water cannot pass, which also chokes vapour transmission and can leave a greasy surface. MasterPel 708 instead reacts at the pore wall to leave a molecular-scale hydrophobic layer, so the pore stays open to vapour but closed to liquid water under capillary pressure. Tested to EN 1338, 1339 and 1340 methods, that caps capillary absorption at roughly 50 percent of an untreated reference after 7-day cure and test, and 60 percent after 90-day cure with 28-day test, while 28-day compressive strength holds at 85 percent or better of reference, the EN 934-2 threshold for this class. Air content stays under 2.0 percent, so there is no real workability trade-off in a calibrated dry-cast mix.
Where it is used
- Concrete paving stones and interlocking pavers on dry-cast presses
- Precast kerbstones and edge-restraint units
- Concrete roof tiles from earth-moist mix
- Precast pipes and culverts, including reinforced sections
- Hollow and solid concrete masonry blocks
- Segmental and landscape retaining-wall units
- Coloured or architectural pavers where colour brilliancy matters
- Precast ranges upgraded to EN 1338/1339/1340 water-absorption benchmarks for export or premium tenders
Key advantages
- Chloride-free, safe to dose into reinforced precast sections
- Chemical bonding at the pore wall, not pore-filling, so vapour permeability is retained
- Measurably cuts capillary water absorption against EN 1338/1339/1340 test methods
- Curbs efflorescence, protecting the finish stockyards and contractors inspect
- Improves colour brilliancy and batch-to-batch uniformity in pigmented units
- No meaningful strength penalty; 28-day compressive strength holds at 85 percent or better of reference
- Ready-to-use liquid, dosed with batching water, no premixing step
- CE-marked with a Declaration of Performance under EN 934-2
Limitations & considerations
- Formulated for semi-dry, dry-cast mixes, not general wet-mix RMC waterproofing
- An imported specialty line, suited to larger plants ordering by drum, IBC or bulk tanker
- Six-month shelf life unopened, stored 5-30 degrees Celsius; a frozen drum is scrap
- Not a substitute for surface membranes on cast-in-place structures such as basements or roofs
- Exact dosage still needs a trial batch on the plant’s own aggregate, cement and press
- Data is generated to EN standards; IS-code specifiers should cross-check absorption claims independently
Selection & best practice
Get the dosage from a trial batch, not the catalogue number. Start inside the 0.2 to 1.0 litre per 100 kg cement range, cast trial units on the actual press with the actual aggregate and cement, and check capillary absorption and finish before a production run, since aggregate grading and cement type shift the working point. Add it with the final batch water rather than pre-blending with dry cement, and keep drums between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius, away from direct sun; a frozen batch is no longer usable. Pair it with MasterCast and MasterFinish on a full MasterPel line, and treat first orders as import lead times rather than off-the-shelf stock.

How we position Master Builders Solutions MasterPel 708
MasterPel 708 sits inside Master Builders Solutions’ global MasterPel family of water-repellent and efflorescence-control admixtures, and Space Arc can pair it with MasterCast and MasterFinish for a full dry-cast precast line. It is not the right tool for wet-cast structural concrete poured on site; for basements, tanks and bridge decks, Fosroc’s Conplast WP500 is the more natural integral-waterproofing choice.
Fosroc Conplast WP500 — For wet-cast structural concrete such as basements, water tanks and bridge decks rather than dry-cast precast units, Conplast WP500 is the more natural integral-waterproofing choice, dosed and mixed the way Indian RMC plants already work.
