MC-Bauchemie Emceconcrete-Guard-TP
A water-based acrylic membrane that protects, colours and slip-proofs bituminous and concrete pavements without sealing moisture inside the substrate.
What is it?
A pure-acrylic-polymer, water-based coating that forms a seamless, breathable, pigmented membrane over bituminous and concrete surfaces subject to regular foot traffic.
Where is it used?
Pedestrian plazas, stadium and sports-facility decks, cycle tracks, access ramps and outdoor stairs, podium and terrace walkways, and as a coloured topcoat over MC waterproofing membranes that see footfall.
Why use it?
Shields bitumen and concrete from UV breakdown and weathering, resists abrasion from foot traffic, adds slip resistance in wet conditions, and lets the specifier colour the surface — while staying vapour-permeable so the substrate keeps breathing.
How is it applied?
Roller or spray, minimum two coats, first coat in one direction and the second at right angles 8-12 hours later, over a sound, laitance-free substrate that’s been primed if porous or cementitious.
About MC-Bauchemie Emceconcrete-Guard-TP
Emceconcrete-Guard-TP is MC-Bauchemie’s answer to a familiar Indian-site problem: bituminous and concrete pavements that look tired within a couple of monsoons because UV, ponding water and constant foot traffic chalk out the bitumen binder or abrade exposed concrete. Instead of a heavy-film epoxy or PU system that seals the surface completely, it’s built on pure acrylic polymer in a water-based carrier, so the coating stays breathable — moisture vapour trapped in the substrate can still escape rather than blistering the film. That matters most on bituminous wear courses and on cementitious waterproofing toppings, where trapping vapour under an impermeable coat is exactly what causes delamination a season or two later.
In practice it’s specified less as a standalone tin and more as part of a small system: MC recommends its own primer under porous or cementitious substrates, Nafuquick range mortars to fill honeycombs and pinholes beforehand, and the coating is stated as compatible with MC’s solvent-free PCC (protection, repair and maintenance) range where a site already uses those for structural repair. As an authorised MC-Bauchemie distributor and applicator, Space Arc supplies and applies it as part of that same system on Delhi NCR and pan-India pedestrian, stadium and podium projects rather than selling it as an isolated coating.
The technical insight
Two figures on the data sheet reward a closer read. The abrasion loss of under 1.5 g under the EN ISO 5470-1 test (H22 disc, 1 kg load, 1000 cycles) is explicitly qualified “for foot traffic” — it confirms pedestrian-wear performance, not resistance to trolley wheels or vehicle scuffing, so it shouldn’t be oversold on a loading-dock floor. The static crack-bridging rating of Class A4 (>1.25 mm) under EN 1062-7 means the membrane stretches over fine, live shrinkage cracks without splitting — useful on bituminous wear courses that hairline-crack seasonally — but it isn’t a structural-crack-repair product; wider or moving cracks still need treatment, usually with Nafuquick mortar, before coating. Tensile strength above 70 kg/cm² and the 5-15% dilution allowance both point to a workable, forgiving film for site crews, consistent with why MC specifies the cross-hatch, two-coat method: it exists to catch pinholes and roller marks that a single pass would leave visible on a coloured, trafficable surface.
Where it is used
- Protective, coloured topcoat for bituminous pavement wear courses exposed to sun and foot traffic
- Coating and colouring pedestrian plazas, walkways and public circulation areas
- Stadium and sports-facility concourses and stands needing wet-weather slip resistance
- Cycle lanes and shared pedestrian-cycle paths
- Outdoor stairs, access ramps and podium decks
- Coloured, trafficable topcoat over MC waterproofing membranes that see regular footfall
- Protective and decorative finish on exposed architectural concrete elements
- Re-coating weathered bitumen or concrete pavements after old paint is stripped off
Key advantages
- Water-based and solvent-free, so it’s workable in occupied buildings and enclosed podium areas without a strong solvent odour
- Vapour-permeable acrylic film lets the substrate breathe, cutting the blistering/delamination risk that impermeable coatings carry on damp bituminous or cementitious bases
- UV and weathering resistant, tested to ASTM D822 at 500 hours exposure, so colour and film integrity hold up under Indian summer sun
- Class A4 static crack-bridging (EN 1062-7) accommodates fine shrinkage and hairline cracking instead of splitting over it
- Roller or spray application keeps site logistics simple with no specialist plant required
- Doubles as a decorative, coloured topcoat, so protection and colour-coding come from a single coating system
- Compatible with MC’s PCC repair range, useful where a site is already single-sourcing structural repair from MC-Bauchemie
- 5-15% water dilution allowance gives applicators some flexibility for substrate porosity and site conditions on the day
Limitations & considerations
- Colour range is restricted to shades achievable with inorganic pigments — don’t expect bright or fluorescent custom matches
- It’s a pedestrian/foot-traffic-rated system (the abrasion figure is explicitly qualified ‘for foot traffic’), not a substitute for a heavy-duty industrial or vehicular flooring system
- Porous or cementitious substrates need a separate primer coat, adding a line item and a day to the programme
- Full cure takes 5 days with a minimum 2-day curing period before the surface is fully serviceable — sites need to sequence handover accordingly
- Not recommended for application below 10°C substrate/ambient temperature, which can matter on early winter mornings in North India
- Bridges only fine, static shrinkage cracks up to about 1.25 mm (Class A4); wider or moving structural cracks need mortar repair first
Selection & best practice
Treat it as the last step of a small system, not a standalone tin. Fill honeycombs, pinholes and bug-holes with Nafuquick range mortar, and strip old paint back to sound substrate before starting. Dampen dry facades first to reveal hairline cracks that aren’t visible dry. Prime porous or cementitious surfaces with Emceconcrete-Guard-TP Primer at 0.15-0.20 kg/m². Apply a minimum of two coats — first pass in one direction, second at right angles after 8-12 hours at around 30°C — to avoid roller-mark striping on a coloured, trafficable surface. Budget consumption at roughly 1.5 kg/m² on bituminous wear courses versus 1.0 kg/m² on smooth concrete, diluted 5-15% with water. Keep the area off traffic for the minimum 2-day curing period and avoid heavy use before the 5-day full cure.

How we position MC-Bauchemie Emceconcrete-Guard-TP
Within the MC-Bauchemie range, Emceconcrete-Guard-TP reads as the finishing layer of a small system rather than a standalone product: Emceconcrete-Guard-TP Primer for porous or cementitious substrates, Nafuquick range mortars to patch honeycombs and pinholes beforehand, and MC’s solvent-free PCC range for structural protection, repair and maintenance where the substrate needs more than surface treatment. Space Arc supplies and applies all three as one specification on Delhi NCR and pan-India projects. Where the brief shifts from a coloured, trafficable pavement finish toward anti-carbonation protection of structural concrete on facades or bridges — a different duty — Fosroc’s Dekguard A Plus is a genuine, BS EN 1504-2-rated water-based acrylic alternative worth naming to the specifier; it protects chemically in a similar way but is positioned for vertical structural concrete rather than foot-traffic pavement.
Fosroc Dekguard A Plus — Specifiers who need anti-carbonation protection for vertical structural concrete — bridges, facades, coastal RCC — rather than a coloured, foot-traffic-rated pavement finish often specify Fosroc’s Dekguard A Plus, a BS EN 1504-2 water-based acrylic coating built for that specific duty.
