What is it?

A two-component (A + B), low-viscosity polyurethane injection resin that starts reacting within roughly a minute of mixing, expanding about 5 to 6 times its liquid volume into a closed-cell, water-displacing rigid foam that carries real load.

Where is it used?

Foundation soil and rock consolidation ahead of tunnelling and piling, cavity and void filling under base slabs and footings, slab-jacking of settled industrial floors, and sealing water-bearing cracks and rigid joints in concrete and masonry.

Why use it?

It reacts and gains usable strength in minutes even in wet, actively flowing ground, needs no water to trigger the reaction, tolerates real hydrostatic pressure, and is DIBt-approved for direct, long-term contact with soil and groundwater.

How is it applied?

Injected through packers or lances with a bore of 4 mm or more, using a metered two-component pump such as MC-I 700, mixing Component A (MC-Montan Injekt FF) with Component B (MC-Montan Injekt F) 1:1 by volume in a static mixing head; on-site reactivity can be fine-tuned with up to 1% MC-KAT 27 catalyst.

About MC-Bauchemie MC-Montan Injekt FF

MC-Montan Injekt FF sits at the technical end of MC-Bauchemie’s injection systems range, built for ground engineering rather than cosmetic crack repair. It is a hydrophobic polyurethane: Component A (the actual “FF” resin, clear-yellowish) meets Component B (MC-Montan Injekt F, dark-brown) only inside the pump’s mixing head, and the reaction proceeds on its own once triggered, whether or not water is present. That is a meaningful distinction from the hydrophilic PU foams and swellable waterstops more commonly seen on Indian sites, which rely on absorbing water to swell and seal — useful for passive detailing, but not something you inject into a running leak under pressure and expect to set predictably. MC-Montan Injekt FF, by contrast, is formulated to expand at a controlled, repeatable rate and cure into a rigid, closed-cell foam with real compressive and flexural strength, which is why MC-Bauchemie positions it for jobs where the foam itself has to carry load or resist groundwater pressure, not just plug a gap.

For Delhi NCR and pan-India projects, that translates into metro and road-tunnel ground consolidation, basement raft and diaphragm-wall cut-off work, and slab-jacking on industrial floors that have settled under racking or machine loads. It is not a shelf product for a site engineer to keep in a store cupboard — it is supplied and, in most cases, applied by a trained injection crew running proper two-component pumping equipment, because the pot life is short and the components are reactive chemicals that need correct handling. As an authorised MC-Bauchemie distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering typically scopes this as a supply-plus-execution package: material ex-stock, pump and packer mobilisation, and a crew that has actually run MC-Fastpack-class injection systems before, rather than leaving a contractor to improvise with unfamiliar chemistry on a live water-ingress problem.

The technical insight

The number worth understanding before specifying this over a cheaper alternative is the roughly 1-minute application time (ASTM D7/487) against a 7-day compressive strength of 48.7 MPa (DIN EN ISO 604) — this is a duromer (thermoset) rigid foam, not a flexible gel, so it behaves structurally more like a fast, expansive grout than a sealant. The controlled expansion factor of about 5.5 (at 2.5 MPa counter-pressure, per TL BEB-Stb table 27) is what lets an injection crew predict fill volume in a void of known size rather than guessing, which matters a great deal in tunnelling and subsoil work where over- or under-filling has real cost and safety consequences. That predictability, plus the DIBt general building-authority approval for injection into soil and groundwater, is the main reason specifiers reach for this over a generic PU foam: it is engineered and independently assessed for exactly this ground-contact, load-bearing use case, not adapted from a foam meant for something else.

Where it is used

  • Increasing the load-bearing capacity of subsoil beneath base slabs and foundations
  • Cavity and void filling ahead of tunnel excavation and rock consolidation
  • Fixing and re-levelling concrete slabs under dynamic or racking loads (slab-jacking)
  • Sealing and reinforcing cracks and cavities in concrete and masonry structures
  • Sealing rigid, non-moving construction and structural joints against water ingress
  • Cut-off and stabilisation of excavation pits and shoring before dewatering
  • Emergency sealing of actively flowing water in running ground or fissured rock
  • Levelling injection under road slabs and other concrete traffic areas

Key advantages

  • Sets and builds usable strength in around a minute, even against actively flowing water
  • Hydrophobic, water-displacing chemistry that does not need a dry substrate to work
  • High early strength — 37.3 MPa within 1 hour, rising to 48.7 MPa at 7 days (DIN EN ISO 604)
  • Predictable, controlled expansion (approx. 5.5x) for reliable fill-volume estimation in voids and rock
  • DIBt-approved for direct, long-term contact with soil and groundwater
  • Meets building material class B2 for fire behaviour (DIN 4102)
  • Tested for concrete traffic areas per ZTV TL BEB-Stb, so it is validated for subgrade/road work
  • Reactivity is adjustable on site with MC-KAT 27 catalyst to suit ground temperature and conditions

Limitations & considerations

  • Requires a dedicated two-component metering pump (e.g. MC-I 700) and trained operators — not a hand-mix or retail product
  • Pot life of roughly a minute leaves very little margin; equipment must be flushed with MC-Verdünnung PU promptly between shots or lines can block
  • Application is limited to +5°C to +40°C substrate/ground temperature, so it is unsuitable on frozen or unusually hot ground
  • It is a rigid foam, not an elastic system — it is not a substitute for hydrophilic waterstops or movement-joint sealants where the joint is designed to keep moving
  • Documented standards are German/European and ASTM (DIN, ASTM, TL BEB-Stb); there is no published IS-standard equivalence, so specification against Indian codes needs the structural engineer’s sign-off
  • Supplied in bulk packs (1,000 l tanks / 20 l canisters) with a dedicated catalyst — this is a contractor-executed, project-scale material, not sized for small patch repairs

Selection & best practice

Start with an injectivity check of the actual ground or structure and put a written injection concept on record before mobilising — packer spacing, setting depth and hole layout should follow that concept, not a generic grid. Use packers or lances with an internal bore of at least 4 mm, and run the two components through a pump with proper static/grid mixing (20 cm mixing-section grid mixers) so Component A and B are fully combined at the point of injection — partial mixing is the most common cause of soft, under-strength foam on site. Because the roughly 1-minute pot life gives almost no room to recover from a stoppage, plan shot sequencing in advance and flush the pump and lines with MC-Verdünnung PU the moment work pauses; never use water for cleaning, since it reacts with the isocyanate component. Keep both components in original, unopened packs between +5°C and +40°C in dry storage, and treat the 18-month shelf life as a hard cut-off rather than a guideline. Component B in particular is isocyanate-based, so crews need the correct PPE, ventilation and MSDS briefing before opening drums, and catalyst dosing (MC-KAT 27, up to 1% into Component A) should be trialled on a small batch first if ground temperatures are marginal.

Industry use cases

Metro / road tunnelling

Pre-consolidation of water-bearing rock and soil ahead of excavation at tunnel headings, reducing water ingress and stabilising ground before boring or cut-and-cover work proceeds.

Basement & diaphragm-wall construction

Sealing water-bearing joints and voids in raft slabs and diaphragm walls under hydrostatic pressure, where a hydrophilic gel would be washed out before it could set.

Industrial flooring

Slab-jacking to re-level settled floor slabs under high-bay racking or heavy machine foundations without breaking out and re-pouring concrete.

Deep foundations & shoring

Consolidating loose or waterlogged ground around foundation pits and shoring before dewatering and excavation begins.

Emergency water control

Cutting off actively flowing water in fissured rock or running ground where conventional cementitious or epoxy grout would simply wash away.

Frequently asked questions

Is this the same as the PU waterproofing injection resins used for basement crack sealing?
No. Most crack-sealing PU resins used on Indian sites are hydrophilic — they need water to trigger swelling into a flexible gel. MC-Montan Injekt FF is hydrophobic: it reacts on its own once the two components mix, expands to a rigid closed-cell foam, and develops real compressive strength, which is why it is specified for ground consolidation and load-bearing voids rather than fine crack sealing alone.
Can it actually be injected into a crack or void with water flowing through it?
Yes — that is its main advantage over cementitious or epoxy grouts in the same situation. Because the reaction does not depend on water contact, it sets and expands predictably even against actively flowing water, which is why it is used for emergency cut-off in running ground and fissured rock.
How soon can the injected area be loaded or built over?
Lab data shows 37.3 MPa compressive strength within 1 hour and 48.7 MPa at 7 days (DIN EN ISO 604), so early handling strength develops fast. That said, the actual go-ahead to load, tunnel through, or build over the treated ground should always come from the project’s structural or geotechnical engineer, not the datasheet alone.
What equipment does a contractor need to apply this correctly?
A metered two-component injection pump with adequate output (MC-Bauchemie’s own MC-I 700 is sized for this), injection packers or lances with at least a 4 mm bore, a proper grid mixing head, MC-Verdünnung PU thinner for flushing, and — where a faster set is needed — MC-KAT 27 catalyst. This is not a bucket-and-trowel material.
Does Space Arc supply the material only, or can you also execute the injection?
As an authorised MC-Bauchemie distributor and applicator for Delhi NCR and pan-India projects, Space Arc can supply MC-Montan Injekt FF ex-stock and, where the scope needs it, mobilise a trained injection crew and pumping equipment to execute the work rather than hand over drums to an unfamiliar applicator.
How should it be stored on site, and what’s the shelf life?
Keep both components in their original, unopened packs in dry conditions between +5°C and +40°C; MC-Bauchemie rates shelf life at a minimum of 18 months under those conditions. Treat drums that have been frozen, overheated, or opened and re-sealed as unreliable rather than risking a failed injection run.

How we position MC-Bauchemie MC-Montan Injekt FF

Within MC-Bauchemie’s own injection range, MC-Montan Injekt FF is the ground-consolidation and structural void-filling specialist — for finer, moving structural cracks and construction-joint sealing, the same family offers MC-Injekt 1264 compact, MC-Injekt 2133 and MC-Injekt GL 95 TX (hydrophilic and hydrophobic PU/acrylate resins sized for crack injection rather than rock mass consolidation), plus sibling grades MC-Montan Injekt LE and MC-Montan Injekt DS tuned for different expansion and settlement profiles on the same platform. Space Arc typically pairs it with MC-I 700 pumping equipment and MC-KAT 27 catalyst as a single project package rather than selling the resin in isolation. Outside the MC-Bauchemie range, most Indian specifiers benchmark this category against Fosroc’s or Sika’s polyurethane and epoxy resin injection systems for crack and joint work; those are reasonable alternatives for shallow, low-pressure crack sealing, but for genuine load-bearing ground consolidation ahead of tunnelling or deep foundation work, few competing systems carry the same combination of DIBt soil/groundwater approval and documented compressive strength that MC-Montan Injekt FF does — which is why we have not forced a like-for-like Fosroc swap onto this particular SKU.
