Sika MonoTop-1010 IN
A single-component, polymer-modified cementitious coat that primes the repair zone and protects exposed reinforcement in one material.
What is it?
A one-part, cementitious, polymer-modified coating that works both as a bonding primer for repair mortars and as a corrosion-protection coat for exposed steel reinforcement.
Where is it used?
Concrete patch repairs on bridges, car parks, water-retaining and marine-adjacent structures, and general RCC rehabilitation where rebar is exposed.
Why use it?
It replaces two separate products with one bag, is fully compatible with Sika MonoTop repair mortars, and carries recycled content for a lower carbon footprint.
How is it applied?
Mixed with water to a slurry and applied by brush, roller or wet spray. Rebar gets two coats; the primer coat on concrete is over-applied wet-on-wet with the repair mortar.
About Sika MonoTop-1010 IN
Sika MonoTop-1010 IN is the priming and rebar-protection member of the Sika MonoTop concrete-repair family. It is a grey powder based on Portland cement, a cement replacement, re-dispersible polymer powder, selected fine aggregates and additives, supplied ready to use in a 25 kg bag. On site you add clean water, mix to a lump-free slurry and apply it as a thin, high-adhesion film. The material is deliberately dual-purpose: brushed onto cleaned reinforcing steel it forms an alkaline, polymer-rich barrier that protects the bar; applied to the prepared concrete substrate it becomes a bonding bridge that the repair mortar keys into.
For engineers and applicators this matters because it collapses two steps of a repair system into one product line. Rather than stocking a separate epoxy rebar primer and a separate slurry bond coat, a crew can protect the steel and prime the substrate from the same bag, then follow with a Sika MonoTop reprofiling mortar. Because the primer and the mortar share the same polymer chemistry, there is no compatibility guesswork at the bond line. The India variant is positioned for structural repair on infrastructure, parking decks and water-contact concrete, and the recycled-content formulation lets specifiers claim a reduced carbon footprint against an equivalent-performing conventional mortar.
The technical insight
The product does two jobs through the same polymer-cement matrix. As a rebar coat, the fresh cementitious film re-establishes a high-alkalinity (high-pH) environment around the cleaned steel, passivating it, while the re-dispersible polymer densifies the film and cuts its permeability so chlorides and moisture struggle to reach the bar. That is why a minimum 2 mm build in two coats is specified for corrosion protection rather than a single thin wash. As a bonding bridge, the polymer gives the slurry the wet grip and closed pore structure needed to develop roughly 2.0 MPa tensile adhesion at 28 days, so the interface between old concrete and new mortar is not the weak link. The trick to a monolithic repair is timing: the primer coat on the concrete is left tacky and the repair mortar is placed wet-on-wet into it, so the two cure together as one body instead of as two layers that can debond later.
Where it is used
- Bonding bridge (slurry bond coat) between sound concrete and Sika MonoTop repair mortars
- Corrosion-protection coat on exposed, cleaned steel reinforcement in patch repairs
- Rehabilitation of bridge decks, piers, soffits and other infrastructure concrete
- Repair of car-park and multi-storey parking structure concrete
- Priming for water-retaining structures such as tanks and reservoirs
- Repairs on marine-adjacent and coastal RCC exposed to chlorides
- Spalling and honeycomb repairs on columns, beams and slabs
- Structural concrete repair on commercial and industrial buildings
Key advantages
- One product covers both rebar protection and substrate priming, simplifying the material list on site
- Guaranteed compatibility with Sika MonoTop repair mortars for a fully engineered repair system
- Single-component: just add water, no on-site resin mixing or ratio errors
- Applies by brush, roller or wet spray, suiting hand patching or larger machine-applied work
- Develops ~50 MPa compressive and ~2.0 MPa tensile adhesion at 28 days
- Contains recycled waste material for a lower carbon footprint than an equivalent mortar
- Cementitious and alkaline, so it is compatible with the surrounding concrete chemistry
- Supplied in a standard 25 kg bag for predictable ordering and coverage estimation
Limitations & considerations
- It is a primer and rebar coat, not a reprofiling mortar; the repair still needs a Sika MonoTop patch mortar over it
- Corrosion protection needs a full 2 mm minimum build in two coats, not a single thin wash
- Application is restricted to a +5 degC to +30 degC substrate and ambient window
- Bonding-bridge performance depends on placing the mortar wet-on-wet before the primer skins over
- Water dosage is narrow (roughly 0.19-0.21); over-watering weakens the film and adhesion
- As a cement-based coat it needs sound, clean, saturated-surface-dry substrate prep and protection from rapid drying while curing
Selection & best practice
Prepare the substrate to sound, clean concrete and expose corroded steel fully, removing rust to a bright finish before coating. Mix only the water shown for your method (about 0.20-0.21 by weight for brush, 0.19-0.20 for spray) to a smooth, lump-free slurry, and respect the pot life (about 120 minutes when hand-mixed at 21% water, around 90 minutes for machine application at 20%). On reinforcement, apply two coats to a minimum 2 mm total, letting the first set (wet-on-dry) before the second. On the concrete substrate, brush a bonding coat and place the Sika MonoTop repair mortar into it wet-on-wet before it dries. Keep the substrate and air between +5 degC and +30 degC, avoid application on frozen or over-hot surfaces, and protect fresh work from rapid drying, direct sun and wind while it cures.

How we position Sika MonoTop-1010 IN
Within the Sika family, MonoTop-1010 IN is the primer and rebar-protection layer that pairs with Sika MonoTop reprofiling and repair mortars to build a complete, single-source concrete-repair system; specify them together for guaranteed bond-line compatibility. Where a project instead calls for a dedicated two-part epoxy rebar primer, our Fosroc range offers a zinc-rich alternative, and for the wider repair we also stock Fosroc Renderoc mortars and Dr. Fixit / MC-Bauchemie protective and waterproofing systems that sit alongside the same rehabilitation scope.
Fosroc Nitozinc Primer — Choose this two-part zinc-rich epoxy primer when a specifier wants a dedicated, high-performance sacrificial anti-corrosion coating on the rebar rather than a cementitious polymer-modified coat combined with substrate priming.
