Product Overview

Sikaflex Pro-3 is a one-component, moisture-curing polyurethane floor joint sealant from Sika, specifically designed for the sealing of saw-cut contraction joints, construction joints, and movement joints in industrial and commercial concrete floor slabs. Floor joints are the planned weak points cut into concrete slabs to control where the slab cracks as it shrinks and moves — every concrete floor has them, and they are the most vulnerable point in the floor for water ingress, contamination entry, forklift wheel impact, and joint edge spalling. Sikaflex Pro-3 is formulated to address these challenges with a joint sealant that: bonds to the concrete joint walls without primer in most applications; cures to a firm but elastic texture that can accommodate the cyclical opening and closing of the joint under thermal and moisture movement (typically plus or minus 25 percent of joint width); is trafficable — the cured Sikaflex Pro-3 sealant resists the impact and compression loading of forklift wheels crossing the joint without tearing, pulling from the joint walls, or being extruded from the joint under load; and is resistant to the oils, cleaning chemicals, food spillages, and other liquids encountered on industrial and commercial floor surfaces. The firm, Shore A 40 to 55 hardness of the cured sealant provides joint edge protection — the stiff sealant fills the joint and prevents small hard debris (sand, grit, stone) from becoming wedged in the joint and acting as a crowbar to lever off the joint arris (edge) under forklift wheel impact. Space Arc Engineering supplies Sikaflex Pro-3 for warehouses, logistics centres, food processing plants, retail floors, car parks, and industrial facilities throughout Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.

Applications

  • Saw-cut contraction joint sealing in warehouse and logistics centre concrete floors
  • Construction joint sealing in industrial floor slabs — day-joint and pour-joint sealing
  • Movement joint sealing in commercial building floor screed and concrete slabs
  • Food processing plant floor joint sealing — chemical and food acid resistance
  • Car park floor joint sealing — oil and fuel resistance, trafficable under vehicle loads
  • Retail and showroom floor joint sealing — good aesthetics in colour options

Key Advantages

  • Traffic-resistant — firm cured hardness resists forklift wheel impact and compression without tearing
  • Protects joint edges from spalling — firm sealant prevents grit ingress and arris chipping under traffic
  • One-component — moisture-curing from cartridge, no mixing, consistent properties
  • Bonds to concrete without primer in most applications — rapid installation on large floor joint areas
  • Chemical resistance — oils, food acids, cleaning agents used in industrial and food facilities
  • Available in standard floor colours — grey, beige — for clean floor appearance

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the correct joint dimensions and installation details for Sikaflex Pro-3 in a warehouse floor and why is a bond breaker important?

Correct joint geometry is critical for Sikaflex Pro-3 floor joint sealant to perform properly — a sealant installed in incorrectly dimensioned joints will fail prematurely regardless of product quality. For a warehouse floor with forklift traffic and saw-cut contraction joints of 5 to 8 mm width (the standard range for power-floated warehouse slabs with 6 to 9 m bay widths), the correct Sikaflex Pro-3 installation detail is: Joint preparation: the saw-cut joint must be cleaned to remove all concrete saw-cutting slurry, dust, grit, and laitance from the joint walls and base. Use a wire brush or sandblasting lance to clean the joint walls, then blow clean with dry compressed air. The joint walls must be dry and free of any contamination. Bond breaker rod: before sealing, insert a polyethylene (PE) closed-cell foam backer rod into the base of the joint. The backer rod serves two critical functions: (1) it controls the sealant depth at the joint base so the sealant aspect ratio (width to depth) is 1:1 or 2:1 (width = depth or width = twice depth) which is the correct geometry for elastic sealant movement performance. If the sealant is too deep relative to its width, the three-sided bonding (to both joint walls and to the backer rod at the base) prevents the sealant from stretching correctly when the joint opens, and tearing failures occur. The backer rod prevents three-sided bonding — the sealant only bonds to the two joint walls, not to the backer rod base. (2) It saves sealant — filling a deep joint with expensive polyurethane sealant to the full depth is wasteful and incorrect. Sealant installation: apply Sikadur primer to the joint walls if specified for the substrate. Apply Sikaflex Pro-3 from a cartridge gun fitted with a nozzle trimmed to the joint width. Fill the joint from the bottom upward, keeping the nozzle submerged in the sealant to prevent air pocket formation. Finish flush with the floor surface or slightly convex (domed) to shed liquid. Smooth with a wetted tool. Allow 7 days full cure before forklift traffic.
