SikaWrap-900 C

High-grammage stitched unidirectional carbon fabric for heavy structural strengthening

Product Overview

SikaWrap-900 C is a high-grammage, stitched unidirectional carbon fibre fabric for the structural strengthening of reinforced concrete, masonry, brickwork and timber. Its heavy 0 degree carbon layer, held by a light stabilising fleece and stitch yarn, packs a large amount of fibre into a single ply, so designers can achieve the required tensile capacity with fewer layers and faster site lay-up. Impregnated on site with Sikadur epoxy, the fabric cures into a stiff CFRP laminate bonded to the parent member. It is chosen for demanding upgrades such as adding flexural and shear capacity to heavily loaded beams, confining columns for seismic ductility, and modernising structures to current code. Space Arc Engineering, an authorized Sika distributor in India, stocks SikaWrap-900 C and the matched epoxy resins for turnkey FRP strengthening.

Features & Benefits

  • Heavy 865 g/m² carbon layer delivers high tensile force per ply, reducing the number of layers on big jobs
  • Stitched construction keeps fibres aligned and stable, supporting uniform impregnation and laminate quality
  • Single-direction fibres place strength precisely along the principal stress path of beams and columns
  • Corrosion-proof carbon reinforcement performs reliably in damp and aggressive service environments
  • Thin bonded laminate strengthens members without meaningful change to size, weight or clearances
  • Pairs with proven Sikadur primer and saturant for a code-referenced, field-formed CFRP system

Technical Highlights

CoveragePrimer consumption approximately 0.6 to 0.8 kg/m² and fabric impregnation around 1.0 kg/m² per layer; confirm with project lay-up and refer to TDS.
StrengthDry-fibre tensile strength about 3,800 N/mm², tensile modulus around 242,000 N/mm² and elongation at break near 1.43%.
PerformanceForms the high-capacity tensile element of a CFRP laminate, raising flexural, shear and confinement capacity in a minimal number of plies once cured.
Application ConditionsRequires a clean, sound, open-textured substrate free of laitance and contaminants with a minimum tensile strength of 1.0 N/mm²; refer to TDS.
PackagingSupplied two rolls per cardboard box, each roll a minimum of about 30 m in length; fabric width 300 mm.

Applications

  • Heavy flexural and shear strengthening of transfer beams and girders in commercial and infrastructure projects
  • Seismic confinement of large RC columns in bridges, flyovers and high-occupancy buildings
  • Capacity upgrade of industrial floor and crane-beam structures subjected to increased loads
  • Strengthening of marine and water-retaining structures where added steel would be vulnerable to corrosion
  • Rehabilitation of distressed concrete members requiring substantial restored tensile capacity

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes SikaWrap-900 C a heavy strengthening fabric?

At around 865 g/m² it carries a large amount of carbon fibre per layer, so it delivers high tensile capacity in fewer plies than lighter fabrics. This makes it well suited to heavily loaded beams and large columns where significant added capacity is needed.

How is SikaWrap-900 C applied?

It is installed by wet lay-up: the prepared substrate is primed, the fabric is placed with fibres along the load direction, and it is impregnated with Sikadur saturant to form a CFRP laminate. Follow the strengthening design and product TDS for layers and consumption.

Can SikaWrap-900 C be used on masonry and timber?

Yes. Like other SikaWrap carbon fabrics it can strengthen reinforced concrete, masonry, brickwork and timber elements, provided the substrate is sound and properly prepared. Suitability and lay-up should be confirmed by the project engineer.

What substrate strength is required for SikaWrap-900 C?

The bonding surface should be clean, open-textured and free of laitance, with a minimum pull-off tensile strength of about 1.0 N/mm². Refer to the TDS for preparation methods and acceptance criteria.
