What is it?

A single-component cementitious micro concrete from STP Ltd, supplied as a grey powder that mixes with water alone into a free-flowing, shrinkage-compensated structural repair material.

Where is it used?

Column, beam and slab reinstatement, RCC jacketing, equipment bases, parking decks, joint repairs and pavement patches where rebar congestion makes conventional concreting impractical.

Why use it?

It self-compacts around dense reinforcement without vibration, bonds strongly to prepared old concrete, stays chloride-free around steel, and hits 15 MPa within a day for early reloading.

How is it applied?

Poured or pumped into sealed, rigid formwork after mixing a 30 kg bag with roughly 4.5 litres of water; sections deeper than 100 mm are bulked out with 5-12 mm aggregate.

About STP ShaliFix MC

When a distressed column or beam is broken out for repair, what remains is usually a cage of closely spaced reinforcement inside a narrow formed cavity. Poker vibrators cannot reach in, and hand-packed mortar rarely fills such sections completely. ShaliFix MC is STP Ltd’s answer to exactly this situation: a factory-blended micro concrete that needs only water on site, flows freely into confined spaces, and compensates for shrinkage so the repair stays locked against the parent concrete instead of pulling away as it cures.

For contractors and structural consultants across India, the practical appeal is consistency. Every 30 kg bag delivers the same graded blend, so a repair gang mixing with a slow-speed drill produces the same flowable material on the tenth floor as at ground level. Strength development is rapid, around 15 MPa in a day and 50 MPa at 28 days, which keeps propping periods short on rehabilitation programmes where the structure must return to service quickly.

The technical insight

Ordinary site-batched concrete loses volume as it dries, and in a thin repair section that shrinkage translates directly into a debonded interface. ShaliFix MC counters this with a shrinkage-compensating system that generates controlled expansion while the mix is still plastic, offsetting the contraction that follows. Its fluidity comes from the formulation rather than extra water: a superplasticised binder carrying fine graded aggregates keeps the water demand near 4.5 litres per 30 kg bag, so the hardened matrix stays dense at a wet density of 2.3-2.4 kg/L. Because the blend is chloride-free, that dense matrix protects embedded reinforcement rather than accelerating its corrosion.

Where it is used

  • Structural reinstatement of damaged RCC columns, beams and slab soffits
  • Jacketing and section enlargement through congested reinforcement
  • Repairs to bridge and flyover members where vibration is impractical
  • Equipment bases, machine pedestals and plinth reinstatement
  • Parking deck and floor topping repairs on horizontal surfaces
  • Joint repairs and honeycomb rectification in formed concrete
  • Patch repairs to concrete pavements and hardstandings

Key advantages

  • Free-flowing consistency self-compacts without any vibration
  • Shrinkage compensated by expansion, so the repair stays tight to the substrate
  • Single component; only clean water is added on site
  • Rapid strength gain: 15 MPa at 1 day, 50 MPa at 28 days
  • Chloride-free formulation is safe in contact with reinforcement
  • High bond to properly prepared old concrete
  • Extended working time gives placement margin in Indian site temperatures

Limitations & considerations

  • Vertical and overhead repairs need rigid, sealed formwork; it is not a trowel-applied material
  • Designed for formed, pourable repairs, not for thin skim coats or feather-edged patching
  • Sections deeper than 100 mm must be extended with 5-12 mm aggregate to control heat build-up
  • Water dosage is strict; overwatering causes segregation, bleeding and strength loss
  • Like all cementitious repairs it needs a sound, pre-soaked substrate and proper curing, especially in hot or windy conditions

Selection & best practice

Break back to sound concrete with square-cut edges, expose corroded reinforcement fully around its perimeter and clean it of rust and scale. Saturate the substrate with water and remove standing ponds so the surface is saturated but surface-dry at the time of pouring. Erect grout-tight formwork with a head box to maintain flow pressure. Mix only full 30 kg bags: charge 3.5 litres of water first, add the powder under a slow-speed drill and paddle until homogeneous, then trim with up to 1 litre more, and let the mix stand a couple of minutes so entrapped air escapes. Pour continuously from one side to avoid trapping air, strip carefully, and cure the repair like structural concrete.

Industry use cases

Bridges & Flyovers

Reinstating spalled piers, pier caps and girder ends where dense links leave no room for a poker vibrator and traffic windows demand fast early strength.

Industrial Plants

Rebuilding machine foundations, equipment bases and pedestals during shutdowns, with 15 MPa day-one strength shortening downtime before remounting plant.

Housing & Commercial Rehab

Column and beam jacketing in occupied buildings, where single-bag mixing with water suits small repair gangs working floor by floor.

Parking Structures

Deck slab patches, joint nosings and topping repairs that must reopen to vehicle movement within days rather than weeks.

Roads & Pavements

Formed patch repairs to concrete pavements and hardstandings, extended with coarse aggregate for deeper full-depth sections.

Frequently asked questions

How much water does one bag need?
About 4.5 litres per 30 kg bag. Charge 3.5 litres first, mix to a homogeneous state with a slow-speed drill, then add up to 1 litre more to reach pouring consistency. Never exceed this to chase flow.
Can I pour sections deeper than 100 mm?
Yes, but extend the mix with 8-10 kg of clean, graded 5-12 mm aggregate per bag. This limits the temperature rise in the mass and reduces the risk of thermal cracking.
Does it need vibration or ramming?
No. The material is formulated to flow and self-compact around reinforcement inside sealed formwork. Pour steadily from one side so air can escape ahead of the material.
How soon can the repaired member take load?
Strength gain is rapid: roughly 15 MPa at 1 day and 40 MPa at 7 days. Actual de-propping should always be confirmed by the structural engineer against site cube results.
Is it safe in contact with reinforcement steel?
Yes. The formulation is chloride-free, and the dense, low-water matrix helps protect embedded rebar rather than contributing to corrosion.
How many bags do I need per cubic metre?
At the stated coverage of about 1.5 m² at 10 mm per bag, a neat mix yields roughly 15 litres per bag, around 65-67 bags per cubic metre. Confirm with a site trial mix, and fewer bags are needed when aggregate-extended.

How we position STP ShaliFix MC

ShaliFix MC sits in STP’s repair family as the pourable option: choose it when the repair is formed and flow matters, and switch to STP’s trowel-applied ShaliFix repair mortars for hand-placed vertical patches without shuttering. For precision grouting under base plates, STP’s ShaliGrout range is the better fit than a repair micro concrete. Across our other brands, Fosroc Renderoc RG and MC-Bauchemie’s micro concretes serve the same formed-repair role where a project is standardised on those systems. Space Arc Engineering supplies all of these pan-India and can support applicator selection and method statements for structural repair packages.
