STP ShaliPrime 2EC
Two-component water-based epoxy primer that bonds to 14-day-old green concrete carrying up to 15% residual moisture — the starting coat for ShaliFloor resin flooring on fast-track projects.
What is it?
A two-component water-based epoxy primer from STP Limited — a whitish-to-clear epoxy emulsion that seals prepared concrete and anchors resin flooring systems to it.
Where is it used?
Under ShaliFloor epoxy and PU floor systems on green, damp or highly absorbent concrete in pharma plants, food units, warehouses and manufacturing floors across India.
Why use it?
It primes concrete as young as 14 days with residual moisture up to 15%, where solvent-based and solvent-free epoxy primers risk blistering or debonding — with very low odour on occupied sites.
How is it applied?
Stir the base, blend in the full hardener for 3 minutes at 200–300 rpm, then apply 25–40 microns by brush, roller or squeegee. Set in 4 hours; overcoat within 4–6 hours.
About STP ShaliPrime 2EC
Most resin flooring failures in India start at the primer coat, and most of those trace back to moisture. Contractors are routinely handed slabs that are two or three weeks old — programme pressure rarely allows the textbook 28-day wait — and conventional epoxy primers applied over that trapped moisture blister, whiten or peel, taking the entire floor system with them. ShaliPrime 2EC is STP Limited’s answer: a two-component epoxy carried in water rather than solvent, formulated specifically to grip green concrete from 14 days of age and substrates holding up to 15% residual moisture.
As the priming coat of the ShaliFloor system, it does two jobs at once. It seals porous, highly absorbent concrete so the topcoat cures evenly instead of starving into the slab, and it builds the adhesion layer that temporary moisture-barrier underlays such as ShaliFloor SL UL 3EC lock onto. The practical payoff is schedule compression — a 4-hour set and a 4–6 hour overcoating window mean priming and underlay can land on the same working day. Space Arc Engineering supplies genuine STP material in Delhi NCR and pan-India, with application crews available for full flooring system installation.
The technical insight
A solvent-based primer and a damp slab are chemically at war: the film cures against water vapour pushing outward, and adhesion loses. ShaliPrime 2EC sidesteps the conflict because its epoxy and amine hardener are dispersed as an emulsion in water — the same medium already sitting in the slab’s pores. Instead of being repelled by capillary moisture, the mixed material wets out damp concrete, and as the carrier water evaporates and draws down into the substrate, the epoxy particles coalesce into a continuous, smooth matt film keyed into the surface. That is why the 15% residual-moisture tolerance is genuine chemistry rather than a marketing figure. The trade-off is a defined reactive window: 30–45 minutes of pot life at 27°C, and once the mix stiffens, adding water only breaks the emulsion — it never extends working time.
Where it is used
- Priming green concrete floors from 14 days old ahead of ShaliFloor epoxy and PU coating systems
- Adhesion coat beneath ShaliFloor SL UL 3EC temporary moisture-barrier underlays on damp slabs
- Sealing highly absorbent or porous concrete so self-levelling topcoats cure evenly without starvation
- Fast-track industrial flooring where the programme cannot absorb a full 28-day slab cure
- Low-odour priming inside occupied or food-adjacent facilities where solvent primers are unacceptable
- Priming cementitious screeds and underlays before resin floor toppings
- Dry, aged concrete floors receiving a new ShaliFloor coating build-up
Key advantages
- Bonds to concrete with residual moisture up to 15% — prime at 14 days instead of waiting out a 28-day cure
- Water-based with very low odour, suitable for enclosed, occupied and hygiene-sensitive areas
- Fast programme: 4-hour set and 4–6 hour overcoating interval allow primer and underlay in one shift
- Seals absorbent substrates uniformly, preventing pinholing and patchy gloss in the finished floor
- Simple site handling — brush, roller or squeegee application, and tools wash clean with plain water
- Compact 3.5 kg packs match phased pours and patch-priming with minimal wastage
- Smooth matt finish gives a clean, consistent base for inspection before topcoating
Limitations & considerations
- Not for slabs with ponded water, rising damp or active hydrostatic moisture — it is a primer, not a damp-proof membrane
- Concrete must still be at least 14 days old; it does not make week-old slabs coatable
- Short 30–45 minute pot life at 27°C, and thinning with water to stretch it is not permitted — stiffened mix must be discarded
- Application window is +15°C to +40°C for both substrate and ambient, limiting cold-weather or peak-summer rooftop work
- High humidity during cure can cause amine blush or sweating, which must be removed before the next coat
- A thin 25–40 micron primer only — never a standalone wearing surface
Selection & best practice
Preparation decides the result. Follow SSPC SP 13: mechanically or chemically clean the slab free of laitance, curing compounds, oil, salts and loose concrete, cut out weak areas, and fill cracks and voids with a suitable repair mortar before priming. Stir Component A to an even consistency, then add the entire Component B and mix for 3 minutes with a slow-speed drill at 200–300 rpm — never split packs by eye. Lay the mix out at 0.25–0.40 kg/m² using cross strokes with brush, roller or squeegee, working within the 30–45 minute pot life and avoiding both air entrapment and over-application clouding. Overcoat between 4 and 6 hours; if humidity has caused amine blush, abrade it off first. Do not cover fresh primer with plastic sheeting or let condensation form on the wet film, and wash tools immediately in potable water.

Industry use cases
Pharmaceutical & Healthcare
Low-odour priming of new production and cleanroom slabs so ShaliFloor systems can be installed early in the fit-out, without solvent fumes near validated areas.
Food & Beverage Processing
Moisture-tolerant base coat for resin floors in wash-down plants where slabs rarely dry fully and solvent carriers are unwelcome near production lines.
Warehousing & Logistics
Fast-track priming of large green slabs so racking-aisle coatings go down weeks earlier, with primer and underlay completed in a single shift.
General Manufacturing
Sealing porous, power-trowelled factory floors ahead of epoxy self-levellers and PU toppings in engineering and assembly units.
Commercial Fit-Outs
Priming screeds and patch repairs inside occupied buildings — malls, offices, institutional interiors — where odour complaints stop solvent primers at the gate.

How we position STP ShaliPrime 2EC
ShaliPrime 2EC is the entry coat of STP’s flooring family: on damp or green slabs it pairs with ShaliFloor SL UL 3EC as the moisture-barrier underlay, then carries ShaliFloor epoxy self-levelling or PU topcoats. On dry, mature concrete, ShaliPrime 2E SF — STP’s solvent-free epoxy primer — is often the more economical choice. Projects specified on Fosroc flooring systems have a direct parallel in Nitoprime 30 under Nitoflor toppings, and Space Arc stocks both ranges, so we can price the system either way and supply application crews for the full build-up.
Fosroc Nitoprime 30 — Specifiers standardised on Fosroc’s Nitoflor flooring range typically choose Nitoprime 30, a solvent-free penetrating epoxy primer that handles dry-to-touch slabs with residual moisture within that system’s warranty chain.
