What is it?

A single-component, cement-based non-shrink grout – Portland cement blended with polymers, performance additives and closely graded, non-metallic fillers into a ready-to-mix powder.

Where is it used?

Machine and equipment foundations, micropile and pile-cap grouting, precast element and fastener anchoring, shear-wall bond beams, column base plates and light industrial foundations.

Why use it?

Reaches a design strength in the region of 60 MPa without shrinking away from the substrate, so bearing plates and anchors stay in full contact under load.

How is it applied?

Mixed mechanically with 10-15% water by weight to a lump-free consistency, rested briefly, remixed, and placed by pouring (Normal grade) or free-flow pumping (Flowable grade) into saturated, surface-dry formwork.

About UltraTech Powergrout NS3

UltraTech Powergrout NS3 is a single-component, cement-based precision grout built around ordinary Portland cement, engineered polymers, hardening additives and a closely graded, non-metallic filler system. It ships as a dry, factory-proportioned powder – nothing to batch on site beyond adding the correct amount of clean water – and cures into a non-shrink, non-expanding matrix rated for a design strength in the region of 60 MPa. Because the filler package is non-metallic, there’s no risk of the rust bleed that older iron-filing grouts can leave on exposed base plates and floors, which matters on finished industrial floors and visible steel structures alike. UltraTech offers it in two consistencies: Normal, a pourable, trowel-assisted mix for tighter gaps and shallow pockets, and Flowable, a self-compacting version that finds its own way into deep, congested voids without vibration.

On Space Arc’s Delhi NCR and pan-India project sites, NS3 is the grout we specify wherever a machine base, precast connection or micropile needs to start carrying real load within days rather than weeks, and where an ordinary sand-cement grout’s shrinkage cracking and slow strength gain simply aren’t acceptable. It’s supplied in 40 kg bags with a six-month shelf life when stored cool and dry, which keeps it practical to stock for both large foundation pours and small anchor-bolt repairs. The trade-off for that early strength is a narrower mixing window than a general-purpose grout, so getting the water ratio and placement sequence right – covered below – is what separates a textbook pour from a redo.

The technical insight

NS3’s performance comes down to two things working together: a tightly controlled water demand and a shrinkage-compensated cement chemistry. Because the powder is factory-blended with polymers and selected fillers rather than site-batched, the only variable left in your control is water – and the manufacturer’s 10-15% by weight window is narrow on purpose. Too little water and the mix won’t flow into the gap; too much, and the excess water that bleeds out and evaporates leaves capillary pores that quietly erode both strength and bond, even though the grout will still look fine going in. The polymer and additive package offsets the plastic and drying shrinkage that would otherwise pull a cementitious grout away from the underside of a base plate as it cures, so the grout stays in full bearing contact rather than leaving a hairline gap that only shows up once the machine is running and vibrating.

Where it is used

  • Machine and equipment base-plate grouting (compressors, pumps, gensets, presses)
  • Micropile and pile-cap grouting
  • Shear-wall bond beams and structural pocket grouting
  • Precast element and panel-joint anchoring
  • Column base plates and stanchion bedding
  • Anchor bolt, dowel rod and fastener fixing
  • Light industrial foundation grouting
  • High-strength precast paver and block manufacture

Key advantages

  • Design strength in the region of 60 MPa, reaching load-bearing capacity fast so equipment gets commissioned sooner
  • Non-shrink, non-expanding formulation keeps full contact under base plates
  • Non-metallic filler system means no rust staining on exposed grout lines
  • Single-component, factory-proportioned powder – only water needs to be added on site
  • Two grades (Normal and Flowable) cover both tight, trowelled pockets and deep, congested voids
  • Self-compacting Flowable grade needs no vibration, cutting site labour and segregation risk
  • Bleed-free mix avoids the weak, water-rich surface layer that plagues site-mixed grouts
  • Formulated to ASTM C1107 and tested to IS 4031 / IS 5816 methods, so specifications can be verified on paper

Limitations & considerations

  • Narrow 10-15% water window – any deviation sharply cuts strength and bond, so it isn’t forgiving of casual site mixing
  • Not intended for high-dynamic, impact or heavy-vibration loading – an epoxy grout is the better choice there
  • Once gauged with water, working time is limited; mix only what the crew can place before it starts to stiffen
  • Substrate must be saturated surface-dry before placing – dry concrete will pull water out of the grout and starve the cure
  • Needs rigid, properly sealed formwork to hold its head without leaking at the base, especially in the Flowable grade
  • Sold only in 40 kg factory bags, so small touch-up jobs still mean opening and storing a part bag under the shelf-life clock

Selection & best practice

Batch by weight, not by eye: measure 10-15% water against the bag weight before you start, and use mechanical mixing – a slow-speed drill with a paddle, or a proper grout mixer – never a hand trowel, to get a lump-free, uniform consistency. Let the mix stand for a couple of minutes to release entrapped air, then give it a short second mix before placing. Pre-soak the substrate the day before so it’s saturated but surface-dry at pour time, and build formwork that’s rigid and sealed tight enough to hold a flowable mix without leaking at the base – a failed seal is the most common reason flowable-grout jobs come up short. Place from one side only to push air and excess water ahead of the pour, keep exposed edges shaded from direct sun and wind for the first 24 hours, and moist-cure or apply a curing compound once the surface has set.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between the Normal and Flowable grades of Powergrout NS3?
Normal grade is a stiffer, pourable and trowel-assisted mix meant for tighter gaps you can work in by hand. Flowable is thinner and self-compacting, designed to travel into deep or congested pockets – under a large base plate, for instance – without needing vibration.
Can I add extra water if the mix feels too stiff to pour?
No. The 10-15% water window is a strength and bond limit, not a workability suggestion. If the mix feels too stiff, remix it properly or switch to the Flowable grade rather than adding water.
How soon can a machine be commissioned on an NS3 grout bed?
NS3 is formulated for high early strength, so load-bearing capacity develops within days rather than the weeks a standard sand-cement grout would need. Always confirm the actual strike-off and commissioning timing against the manufacturer’s data sheet and site conditions rather than a fixed number.
Is Powergrout NS3 suitable for grouting under equipment with heavy vibration, like a large compressor?
For genuinely high-dynamic or impact loading, an epoxy grout system generally handles fatigue and vibration better. NS3 is built for static and moderate dynamic loads such as general machine bases, micropiles and precast anchoring.
What’s the shelf life once I buy a bag?
Six months from the date of manufacture, provided it’s stored in a cool, dry place. Check the manufacturing date printed on the bag at the time of purchase.

How we position UltraTech Powergrout NS3

Powergrout NS3 sits in the middle of UltraTech’s own grout family – NS1 is the higher design-strength option, rated up to around 100 MPa, for the most demanding machine bases and vault work, NS2 covers a similar high-early-strength niche at its own grade, and NS3 is the workhorse choice for micropiles, pile caps and general structural anchoring. If a job needs a general-purpose grout for lighter-duty base plates and repairs rather than a design-strength precision grout, UltraTech’s broader Powergrout/PGM range or a standard non-shrink grout is the more economical fit – ask us and we’ll match the grade to the load. Space Arc also stocks UltraTech’s waterproofing, tile-fixing and repair-mortar lines, so foundation grouting, waterproofing and finishing can be sourced and scheduled from one supplier on the same site.
