Sika SikaPlast-4233 NS
A modified polycarboxylate superplasticiser built for ready-mix concrete, delivering strong water reduction, extended workability and high early strength across variable aggregates and cements.
What is it?
A high-range water-reducing superplasticiser based on modified polycarboxylate (PCE) chemistry, formulated by Sika for ready-mix and structural concrete production.
Where is it used?
RMC plants, high-rise and infrastructure pours, industrial floors, foundations and durability-critical concrete across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
Why use it?
It cuts water demand sharply so you gain density, strength and low permeability without sacrificing flow, and it stays consistent even when aggregate gradings or cement sources vary batch to batch.
How is it applied?
Dosed at 0.2 to 2.0 percent by weight of cement, added to the mixing water or into the mixer after 50 to 70 percent of the water, then wet-mixed for at least 60 seconds.
About Sika SikaPlast-4233 NS
SikaPlast-4233 NS sits in the workhorse tier of Sika’s superplasticiser range: the product a ready-mix plant reaches for when it needs dependable water reduction and slump life without stepping up to a specialist self-compacting admixture. Built on modified polycarboxylate (PCE) chemistry, it disperses cement particles far more effectively than older naphthalene or lignosulphonate types, which lets a producer pull real water out of the mix and still hit target flow at the batching plant and again at the pour. The result is denser, stronger, less permeable concrete from the same cement content.
What makes it a natural fit for Indian RMC operations is its tolerance for variability. Aggregate gradings shift from quarry to quarry, and OPC, PPC and blended cements all behave differently with admixtures. SikaPlast-4233 NS is formulated to hold its performance across that spread, so a plant running multiple mix designs and cement sources gets predictable slump and setting behaviour rather than surprises. It conforms to IS 9103 and ASTM C494, ships in 255 kg HDPE carboys or by bulk tanker, and carries a 12-month shelf life in sealed original packaging.
The technical insight
The mechanism is steric dispersion. A polycarboxylate molecule anchors to the cement grain through its main chain while long side chains project outward into the pore solution. Those side chains physically keep neighbouring cement particles apart, which is a more durable effect than the electrostatic repulsion that naphthalene-based plasticisers rely on. Because the grains stay dispersed rather than flocculating, the water that would otherwise be trapped inside cement clumps is freed to lubricate the mix. That freed water is what you remove: you can drop the water-cement ratio while keeping the same workability, and a lower w/c ratio is the single biggest lever on compressive strength, permeability and long-term durability. The extended workability comes from side chains that continue to unfold over time, so slump loss is gentler and the concrete stays placeable through transport and pumping without a second dosing on site.
Where it is used
- Ready-mix concrete for commercial buildings and high-rise structures
- Infrastructure concrete for bridges, flyovers and metro works
- Industrial floors, hardstandings and heavy-duty foundations
- Water-retaining and low-permeability concrete for tanks and basements
- High-strength reinforced structural elements in residential projects
- Pumped concrete requiring retained slump over distance
- Durability-critical concrete exposed to aggressive environments
- Precast and site-batched structural pours needing consistent flow
Key advantages
- Strong water reduction that raises density, strength and reduces permeability
- Reliable performance across varying aggregate gradings and cement types
- High plasticising efficiency achieved at low dosage rates
- Extended workability that supports transport, pumping and placing
- Improved flow, compaction and surface finish of the placed concrete
- Lower water-cement ratio without loss of workability at the pour
- IS 9103 and ASTM C494 compliant for specification-driven projects
- Available in 255 kg carboys or bulk tanker for plant-scale supply
Limitations & considerations
- Optimum dosage must be confirmed by site trials; overdosing can cause bleeding, segregation or retarded set
- As a liquid PCE it needs protection from frost and direct sunlight, and storage between +10C and +40C
- Effective wet mixing of at least 60 seconds is required for uniform dispersion
- Not a self-compacting or viscosity-modifying admixture; specialist SCC pours may need a different Sika grade
- Performance depends on cement and mix design, so results are not guaranteed by dosage alone
Selection & best practice
Establish the working dosage through trial mixes with your actual cement and aggregates before committing a production mix, since the 0.2 to 2.0 percent range is wide and the sweet spot shifts with the mix design. Add the admixture to the mixing water, or into the mixer only after 50 to 70 percent of the water is already in, so it disperses evenly rather than concentrating on dry cement. Give the batch a minimum 60 seconds of wet mixing. Do not exceed the trial-confirmed dosage chasing extra flow, as overdosing is the usual cause of bleeding, segregation and delayed set. Keep carboys sealed, shaded and above +10C; a frosted or sun-degraded product will not perform to spec.

Industry use cases
Ready-Mix Concrete
RMC plants use it as an everyday superplasticiser to hold consistent slump and strength across multiple mix designs and rotating cement sources.
Infrastructure
Bridge, flyover and metro pours rely on its water reduction and retained workability to place dense, low-permeability, durable concrete.
High-Rise Buildings
Tall commercial and residential structures benefit from pumpable, high-strength mixes that stay workable from ground level to upper floors.
Industrial Flooring & Foundations
Heavy floors and raft foundations gain compaction and finish quality from improved flow at a lower water-cement ratio.
Water-Retaining Structures
Tanks, basements and reservoirs use its permeability reduction to build concrete that resists water ingress over the long term.

How we position Sika SikaPlast-4233 NS
Within the Sika range, SikaPlast-4233 NS is the dependable general-purpose RMC superplasticiser; where a project needs a specialist self-compacting or viscosity-modified mix, a higher Sika PCE grade or a ViscoCrete-family admixture is the better fit. Pair it with Sika’s curing compounds and integral waterproofing admixtures on the same pour for a complete durability package. Across our other lines, contractors comparing options often look at Fosroc Auramix and Auracast PCE superplasticisers or the Master Builders Solutions MasterGlenium range for equivalent high-range water reduction, and we can supply and advise on all of them from one source.
Fosroc Auramix 400 — A specifier working to a Fosroc-approved vendor list, or one needing stronger extended workability retention for long-haul or SCC-style pours, may prefer Auramix 400’s low-viscosity PCE formulation.
