What is it?

A one-part, solvent-based synthetic-rubber construction adhesive supplied in a 333 g cartridge that bonds trims, panels and profiles without nails or screws.

Where is it used?

Interior fit-out and covered external work, fixing skirting, architraves, mouldings, wall panels, sheet boards, hard PVC profiles and metal edge angles.

Why use it?

It grabs almost immediately after flash-off and gains strength quickly, so components stay put and fit-out crews move faster with fewer visible fixings.

How is it applied?

Gun a 4 to 6 mm bead onto a clean, dry, abraded surface at beads under 50 mm apart, press both parts together, and support heavy items until cured.

About Sika SikaBond-124 Instant Nails

SikaBond-124 Instant Nails is Sika’s high-strength multipurpose grab adhesive, built for the everyday bonding jobs that fill an interior fit-out programme. It is a one-part product based on synthetic rubber, packed in a 333 g cartridge that loads into a standard skeleton gun. The idea is simple: replace the hammer, nails and screws that used to hold skirting, architraves, mouldings and panels with a bead of adhesive that grabs on contact and cures to a rigid, durable bond. For contractors working through a punch list of trims and boards, that means fewer drilled holes, less filling and patching, and a cleaner finished surface.

The product suits internal work and covered external locations where it stays out of standing water and direct weather. On site it bonds a genuinely wide spread of substrates, wood and timber trims, MDF and sheet boards, hard PVC profiles, decorative mouldings and metal protection angles, which is why a single cartridge often covers several trades in one visit. It is not a structural adhesive and it is not a mastic sealant; it sits in the gap between the two as a fast fixing compound. Space Arc Engineering supplies SikaBond-124 across Delhi NCR and Pan-India as an authorised Sika distributor, alongside the Sika sealants, primers and cleaners that round out a complete bonding kit.

The technical insight

The performance comes from a solvent-carried synthetic-rubber system rather than a moisture-cured polymer. When the bead is applied and the two substrates are brought together, the solvent begins to flash off and the rubber develops tack almost at once, giving the rapid initial grab that lets a fitter position a trim and let go. As more solvent leaves the joint, the adhesive stiffens and gains strength, reaching a Shore A hardness of about 80 after 28 days and a lap-shear strength of roughly 3.5 N/mm at a 0.1 mm glue line (ASTM D1002). Because curing depends on solvent escaping the film, the adhesive must be applied in beads, not as a full-surface smear, so the inner layer can dry; a continuous flood coat can leave an uncured core that never reaches strength. The cured bond tolerates a service range of minus 30 to plus 60 degrees C, which comfortably covers Indian interior and shaded-exterior conditions.

Where it is used

  • Fixing timber and MDF skirting boards to masonry and plastered walls
  • Bonding architraves, dado rails and decorative mouldings during joinery fit-out
  • Mounting wall panels, sheet boards and cladding boards onto framed or solid backgrounds
  • Installing hard PVC profiles, cover trims and edge-protection angles
  • Fixing metal corner-guard and protection angles in high-traffic corridors
  • Securing battens and framing members ahead of panelling or dry-lining
  • Maintenance re-fixing of detached trims, beads and mouldings without re-drilling
  • Bonding lightweight fixtures and profiles where visible fasteners are unwanted

Key advantages

  • One-part and ready to use, no mixing, weighing or fasteners required
  • Rapid initial grab after flash-off holds components in place immediately
  • Fast strength gain shortens fit-out cycles and frees up crews sooner
  • Wide adhesion range bonds wood, PVC, sheet boards, mouldings and metals
  • Delivers a clean finished surface with no nail holes to fill or over-paint
  • 333 g cartridge yields around 11 m of bead or roughly 100 fixing spots
  • Rigid, high-final-strength bond suited to trims and panel work
  • 18-month shelf life gives comfortable stock rotation for busy stores

Limitations & considerations

  • Not for structural bonding; use engineered systems where loads are carried
  • Contains solvents that can degrade sensitive plastics such as PE, PP and PTFE and certain plasticised materials, so trial first
  • High humidity or exposure to water can cause adhesion failure, keeping it to internal and covered use
  • Bead application only; full-surface fixings can leave an uncured inner layer
  • Overhead and heavy components must be combined with mechanical fixings and temporary support
  • Not suitable on bituminous substrates, natural rubber, EPDM, or materials that leach oils or plasticisers

Selection & best practice

Prepare every surface first: it must be clean, sound, dry and free of oil, grease and dust, with loose flaking material removed and a light abrasion given for better grip. Work between plus 5 and plus 40 degrees C, keep the substrate at least 3 degrees C above dew point, and let the adhesive itself reach around plus 20 degrees C for easy gunning. For heavier panels use the one-way method: apply a 4 to 6 mm bead with beads no more than 50 mm apart, bring the parts together at once, and clamp, nail or screw for at least 24 hours. For a quicker set on lighter items the two-way method works, pressing to transfer adhesive, pulling apart for up to 3 minutes, then re-mating with a padded block. Always trial paints, coatings and questionable substrates before committing, support heavy components until cured, and clean tools immediately with Sika Remover-208.

Frequently asked questions

Is SikaBond-124 Instant Nails waterproof or suitable for outdoor use?
It is intended for internal and covered external use only. High humidity or direct exposure to water can lead to adhesion failure, so it should be kept out of standing water and unprotected weather.
Can it replace nails and screws completely?
For most light to medium trims and panels, yes. But for overhead fixings, heavy components or anywhere load or stress is expected, Sika requires it to be used together with mechanical fixings and temporary support until cured.
How much does one cartridge cover?
A 333 g cartridge yields about 11 m of bead through a 6 mm nozzle, roughly 30 g per linear metre, or around 100 spots of 30 mm diameter and 4 mm thickness.
How long before it reaches full strength?
It grabs almost immediately after flash-off, and with the two-way method maximum bond strength develops in about 12 to 72 hours depending on the substrates and site conditions. Heavy panels should be temporarily fastened until then.
Which substrates should I avoid or test first?
Do not use it on bituminous substrates, natural rubber, EPDM, or materials that leach oils or plasticisers. Because it contains solvents, trial it first on sensitive plastics such as PE, PP and PTFE, on mirrors, natural stone and over paint.
Is it a structural adhesive?
No. SikaBond-124 is a high-strength grab adhesive for trims, panels and profiles, but it is not rated for structural bonding. Use an engineered structural adhesive or anchoring system where loads must be carried.

How we position Sika SikaBond-124 Instant Nails

SikaBond-124 sits in Sika’s bonding and sealing family as the fast grab adhesive for trims and panels, distinct from structural or elastic systems. Where a joint needs to move and seal rather than rigidly fix, reach for a Sikaflex polyurethane sealant-adhesive; where a full-surface flexible floor or panel bond is required, Sika’s dedicated SikaBond flooring adhesives are the right call. Pair it with Sika Remover-208 for tool cleaning and Sika Cleaning Wipes-100 for hands and surfaces. For structural fixing and anchoring, which this product explicitly excludes, we would move you to an epoxy anchoring system such as Fosroc Lokfix or a structural epoxy from our wider range. Space Arc supplies all of these lines Pan-India, so a single order can cover the grab adhesive, the sealant and the cleaners a fit-out crew needs on the same job.
