UltraTech Weather Pro BituPro DPC Coating
A cold-applied bitumen emulsion coat that stops rising dampness at the plinth line, before it becomes a decade-long wall problem.
What is it?
BituPro is a water-based, cold-applied bitumen emulsion coating from UltraTech’s Waterproofing Chemicals range, brushed onto foundation masonry to form a continuous damp-proof course (DPC).
Where is it used?
At the plinth level of new residential and light-commercial builds — over brick, block or concrete foundation walls, just below the flooring line, before backfilling and plastering begin.
Why use it?
Ground moisture rises through masonry by capillary action if the plinth is left uncoated; that’s what shows up years later as skirting-height dampness, salt bloom and peeling paint on ground-floor walls.
How is it applied?
Applied cold with a brush or roller — no torch or heating kettle needed — in coats across a clean, dry plinth surface, then covered by plaster, flooring or backfill once cured.
About UltraTech Weather Pro BituPro DPC Coating
Most dampness complaints Space Arc gets called out for in Delhi NCR ground-floor flats trace back to one missing step: nobody coated the plinth before the walls went up. Concrete and brick are porous, and if a foundation sits in damp soil with no barrier between it and the superstructure, water climbs the wall by capillary action — no cracks or leaks required. This is what a damp-proof course, or DPC, is built to stop, and a bitumen emulsion coating is the most common, most economical way Indian builders lay one down, because it needs nothing more than a brush, a bucket and a dry day.
BituPro is UltraTech’s entry in that category, sold as part of its Waterproofing Chemicals line-up alongside WP+200 (an integral waterproofing admixture), Flex and Hi-Flex (flexible coatings for wet areas and terraces), Top-Shield and Top-Shield EZY (roof coatings), and a set of bituminous and HDPE membranes for basements. On UltraTech’s own site it is marketed simply as BituPro — it doesn’t carry a separate “Weather Pro” sub-brand, which is easy to confuse with UltraTech’s unrelated Weather Plus water-repellent cement. UltraTech positions these products as one ecosystem — cement, waterproofing and finishing from a single brand — useful when a builder wants one point of accountability across the shell. BituPro’s job in that line-up is narrow and unglamorous: paint the plinth so the rest of the waterproofing plan isn’t fighting rising damp from day one.
The technical insight
Cold-applied, water-based bitumen emulsions work because bitumen is naturally hydrophobic — once the water carrier evaporates and the film cures, what’s left is a continuous, flexible, water-shedding layer that tolerates minor masonry movement without cracking, something a rigid cementitious coating can struggle with at a plinth joint. The trade-off is that the coating isn’t meant to be a permanent exposed finish: like all bitumen emulsions, it’s sensitive to prolonged UV exposure and needs to be covered by plaster, flooring or backfill soon after it cures. It also needs a genuinely dry, sound substrate to bond properly — applied over damp or dusty brickwork, adhesion (and therefore the whole DPC line) is compromised.
Where it is used
- Plinth-level DPC on residential villas, row houses and independent floors
- Foundation walls before backfilling, on the soil-contact face
- Compound and boundary wall footings prone to base staining
- Column pedestal-to-plinth junctions where dampness typically bridges into the frame
- Sunken slab edges in ground-floor bathrooms and utility areas
- Retrofit DPC on older constructions where no damp-proof course was ever laid
- Sump and water-tank exterior (non-potable contact) walls at ground level
- Under-floor priming at ground level as a secondary check before screed
Key advantages
- Cold application — no gas torch or heating kettle, which matters on tight residential sites
- Water-based formulation — low odour, easier to work with on occupied or urban sites than solvent-borne primers
- Brush/roller applied — no specialist waterproofing crew or equipment required
- Flexible cured film tolerates minor masonry movement at the plinth joint
- Sits inside UltraTech’s single-brand construction ecosystem, simplifying vendor and warranty conversations with the builder
- Backed by UltraTech’s Pan-India UBP dealer network, so restocking mid-project is rarely an issue
- Low-cost first line of defence against rising damp compared with membrane-based systems
Limitations & considerations
- Addresses rising/capillary dampness at plinth level only — it is not a substitute for basement tanking membranes or roof waterproofing like Top-Shield
- UltraTech does not publish a detailed public datasheet with coverage rate, dilution or dosage figures; get the site-specific recommendation from UBP or your applicator before ordering quantity
- Must not be left as a permanent exposed finish — UV exposure degrades bitumen emulsion films over time, so cover with plaster, flooring or backfill promptly after cure
- Performance is substrate-dependent — applied over damp, dusty or friable masonry, adhesion and therefore the whole DPC line will underperform
- Not designed for chemical or effluent exposure — industrial sites with aggressive chemicals need a dedicated barrier coating, not a standard bitumen DPC
- Application needs a dry weather window; rain during or shortly after coating, before it cures, compromises the film
Selection & best practice
Treat the plinth coat as a continuous line with no gaps, not a patch job. Clean the masonry of loose mortar, dust and laitance, confirm the surface is dry, and apply BituPro in at least two coats in alternating directions so pinholes in the first coat don’t carry through. Carry the coating up and around every corner, column base and pipe penetration at plinth level — a DPC line is only as good as its weakest gap. Allow the recommended cure time before backfilling or plastering over it, and keep it out of direct rain until cured. On renovation work, cut a fresh key into old, brittle bitumen before recoating rather than painting straight over it.

Industry use cases
Independent houses & villas (Delhi NCR)
Plinth DPC line ahead of flooring — standard practice on Space Arc’s row-house sites to stop skirting-height dampness before it starts.
Builder/developer housing
Applied across multiple foundation units so the project can source cement and waterproofing under one UltraTech account.
Compound & boundary walls
Footing-level coat on boundary wall construction, where ground contact otherwise leaves a damp tide-mark at the base.
Renovation & retrofit
Retro-fitted at plinth during major repairs on older Delhi NCR properties that were built without any DPC layer originally.
Light commercial (shops, small godowns)
Foundation damp-proofing ahead of the flooring screed on retail and small warehouse construction.

How we position UltraTech Weather Pro BituPro DPC Coating
Inside UltraTech’s own range, BituPro sits at the foundation end of a waterproofing system that runs all the way to the roof: WP+200 goes into the concrete mix, BituPro coats the plinth, Flex and Hi-Flex handle wet areas and terraces, and Top-Shield/Top-Shield EZY take the roof, with APP, HDPE and SBS membranes covering basements — Space Arc typically specs these together rather than one product in isolation. Outside the UltraTech family, the direct competitors for this exact job are Pidilite’s Dr. Fixit bitumen-based DPC coatings and STP’s bituminous primers, both long-established in the Indian retail waterproofing market. Fosroc, worth naming because it’s a common specifier default for structural waterproofing, doesn’t carry a like-for-like bitumen-emulsion DPC product in its mainstream range — its closest coatings (Nitoproof, Brushbond) are cementitious or acrylic systems built for wet-area and terrace work, not plinth-level bitumen DPC — so a Fosroc-first project would typically still pair a bituminous DPC coat from elsewhere with Fosroc’s wet-area products rather than sourcing both from one brand.
