STP ShaliFloor M DH
A non-oxidizing metallic dry-shake hardener that fuses into fresh concrete to give industrial floors a dense, impact- and abrasion-resistant wearing surface that will not rust-stain.
What is it?
A single-component, pre-blended metallic dry-shake floor hardener from STP Limited, built around cleaned, graded non-oxidizing steel aggregate in a cementitious binder.
Where is it used?
Heavy-traffic industrial slabs — steel plants, fabrication shops, warehouses, loading bays, ports and mining floors that take forklift, trolley and steel-wheel loads.
Why use it?
It builds a monolithic wearing layer far tougher than plain concrete, resisting abrasion and impact while avoiding the rust staining that ordinary iron-filing hardeners cause.
How is it applied?
Dry-shaken by hand or spreader onto fresh, bleed-free concrete in two passes, floated in, then power-trowelled to a dense finish and cured.
About STP ShaliFloor M DH
STP ShaliFloor M DH is a heavy-duty metallic floor hardener supplied as a ready-to-use dry powder. It combines specially cleaned and graded non-oxidizing metallic aggregate with cement, pigments and performance admixtures, all factory-blended so the applicator only has to broadcast it onto the slab. Applied by the dry-shake method into fresh, plastic concrete, it knits into the top few millimetres of the pour and hardens as a single monolithic layer with the base slab — there is no separate topping to debond or curl. The result is a working surface engineered for the punishment that industrial floors actually take: point loads from steel-wheeled trolleys, dragged pallets, dropped tools and constant forklift movement.
What sets a metallic hardener apart from a mineral one is density and impact behaviour. The steel aggregate gives the finished surface a much higher wear rating and lets it absorb sharp impacts that would chip or spall a plain trowelled floor. The “non-oxidizing” part matters just as much in Indian conditions — conventional metallic hardeners made from raw iron filings tend to bleed rust spots when the floor sees moisture or wash-downs. ShaliFloor M DH uses pre-treated, non-rusting aggregate specifically to keep the surface clean, so it suits plants where humidity, spillage or periodic washing would otherwise stain an ordinary metallic floor. As an authorised distributor and applicator, Space Arc supplies the material and executes the placement across Delhi NCR and Pan-India projects.
The technical insight
The performance comes from where the hardener sits and what it is made of. Because it is dry-shaken onto fresh concrete and trowelled in — rather than laid as a bonded overlay later — the metallic aggregate becomes part of the slab’s own cement matrix as it hydrates. That monolithic bond is the key: there is no interface to fail under repeated impact, so the wear layer cannot delaminate the way a thin applied topping can. The graded steel aggregate itself is dramatically harder and denser than the sand-cement it replaces at the surface, which is why the finished floor carries a far higher abrasion rating (tested to ASTM C779) and shrugs off gouging from steel wheels and dropped loads. The non-oxidizing treatment on the aggregate is a deliberate metallurgical choice: it delivers the toughness of steel at the surface without the free iron that rusts and telegraphs brown staining up through the floor. Getting that matrix right on site depends entirely on the base concrete — a properly rich, correctly slumped, low-bleed pour is what lets the shake absorb uniformly and trowel to a tight, dense skin.
Where it is used
- Heavy engineering and steel fabrication shop floors
- Warehouse and distribution-centre floors under constant forklift traffic
- Loading bays, ramps and truck-dock aprons
- Port, container-yard and logistics-terminal slabs
- Mining, quarry and cement-plant working floors
- Machine shops and press bays with heavy point loads
- Automotive and general manufacturing plant floors
- Areas needing abrasion resistance in periodically washed or damp environments
Key advantages
- Non-oxidizing steel aggregate resists the rust staining common to ordinary metallic hardeners
- Very high abrasion and wear resistance verified to ASTM C779
- Excellent impact resistance for point loads and dropped-tool areas
- Bonds monolithically into the slab, so there is no topping to debond or curl
- Single-component, pre-blended powder — no on-site mixing of components
- Dosage can be tuned from 4.9 to 12.2 kg/m2 to match the duty level
- Denser, harder wearing surface than plain trowelled concrete
- Can be worked as a mortar for reinforcing joint shoulders and arrises
Limitations & considerations
- Must be applied to fresh, plastic concrete during finishing — it cannot be added to a cured, existing floor
- Not a decorative or chemical-resistant coating; for aggressive chemical spillage an epoxy or PU topcoat is needed instead
- Performance depends heavily on correct base concrete (cement content, slump, bleed control) and skilled power-trowelling
- Metallic aggregate gives a natural silver-grey finish with limited colour options versus non-metallic hardeners
- Timing is critical — application must coincide with the concrete losing its initial water sheen, which demands experienced applicators
- Like all dry-shake floors, it needs proper curing to develop full surface strength
Selection & best practice
Get the base concrete right first: a minimum cement content of about 300 kg/m3, a slump in the 50–70 mm range, and a slab at least 50 mm thick for manual finishing or 100 mm for power-trowel work. Place a low-bleed, well-compacted pour and wait until the surface water sheen has just disappeared before starting. Broadcast the hardener in two passes — roughly two-thirds of the total dose first, floated in, then the balance applied at right angles to it for even coverage — working at the chosen rate between 4.9 and 12.2 kg/m2 (heavier dosing where wear will be most severe; around 5 kg/m2 is the practical ceiling over vacuum-dewatered concrete). Float each pass as the shake darkens with absorbed moisture, then power-trowel progressively to a dense, tight finish. Cure immediately and thoroughly, and protect the young floor from traffic until it has gained strength. Because the finishing window is short and unforgiving, this is work for an experienced dry-shake crew rather than a general concreting gang.

Industry use cases
Steel & Heavy Fabrication
Shop floors under steel-wheeled trolleys, dropped billets and dragged sections, where a metallic surface resists gouging and impact.
Warehousing & Logistics
Racking aisles, loading bays and dock aprons taking round-the-clock forklift and pallet-truck movement without dusting or wearing thin.
Ports & Container Yards
High-load handling slabs that need abrasion resistance and, thanks to the non-oxidizing aggregate, no rust staining in coastal, damp conditions.
Mining, Quarry & Cement Plants
Working floors exposed to constant grinding abrasion from heavy plant and abrasive material spillage.
Manufacturing & Press Shops
Machine bases and press bays where concentrated point loads and periodic wash-downs would defeat a plain concrete finish.

How we position STP ShaliFloor M DH
ShaliFloor M DH is STP’s heavy-duty metallic option in a broader floor-hardening range. Where impact loads are lighter or budget and colour choice matter more, STP’s non-metallic ShaliFloor NM is the natural alternative from the same family. For existing or cured floors that need surface strength without a dry-shake, STP’s liquid hardener-densifiers ShaliFloor LH and Li LH densify the concrete chemically instead. And where the floor must also resist chemicals, oils or aggressive spillage, a metallic-hardened base is best finished with an STP epoxy or PU system such as the ShaliFloor TC topcoats or an SL self-levelling screed. Across our other brands, comparable dry-shake metallic hardeners include Fosroc’s Nitoflor Metaltop NF and equivalent industrial-flooring lines — Space Arc can help specify the right hardener-and-topcoat combination for the exposure your slab will actually see.
Fosroc Nitoflor Metaltop NF — A specifier who wants a Fosroc-specified metallic dry-shake — often to match a Fosroc flooring system already on the project — can choose Metaltop NF for the same non-rusting, high-impact wearing surface.
