STP ShaliPoxy 400
A solvent-free, food-grade two-component epoxy that spray-lines steel and concrete pipelines with a high-build, potable-water-safe barrier in a single pass.
What is it?
STP ShaliPoxy 400 is a two-component (2K), solvent-free, food-grade epoxy coating engineered for high-build internal and external lining of steel and concrete pipes, vessels and equipment carrying potable water.
Where is it used?
Potable water transmission mains, water treatment plant pipework, storage tanks and food-and-beverage process lines across municipal, industrial and infrastructure projects in Delhi NCR and pan-India.
Why use it?
It delivers a WRAS-approved, non-toxic barrier that resists abrasion and chemical attack, builds over 400 micron in one coat, and cures fast enough to minimise pipeline downtime.
How is it applied?
Spray-applied by plural-feed or single-feed airless equipment onto abrasive-blasted, primed steel or prepared concrete, then allowed to cure before the line is returned to potable-water service.
About STP ShaliPoxy 400
STP ShaliPoxy 400 sits in the specialist end of protective coatings: a job-site lining that has to do two difficult things at once. It must keep drinking water clean enough to satisfy public-health regulators, and it must survive years of abrasion from flowing water, grit and the occasional aggressive chemistry that runs through transmission mains and treatment-plant pipework. It is a two-component, solvent-free epoxy, which means the resin and hardener are metered and mixed at the point of application and cure into a dense, cross-linked film with effectively zero VOC release. That solvent-free chemistry is what makes it usable inside the confined space of a pipe or tank, where solvent fumes would be both a safety hazard and a contamination risk.
Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies ShaliPoxy 400 as an authorised STP channel partner. In practice the product is chosen where a contractor or consultant needs a lining that carries genuine potable-water credentials rather than a general-purpose epoxy pressed into service. It conforms to BS 6920:2014 and IS 16676:2017 for water-contact suitability, and to AWWA C-210:2003, the American standard for liquid-epoxy linings on steel water pipe, and it is WRAS Approved. Those approvals matter because a water utility or its consultant will usually specify them by name, and a lining without them cannot be signed off for drinking-water duty regardless of how well it performs on paper.
The technical insight
The performance of ShaliPoxy 400 comes from its high film build combined with very low permeability. A single plural-feed spray pass lays down more than 400 micron of dry film, far more than a conventional brush or roller epoxy achieves, and that thickness is applied wet-on-wet without waiting between coats. Because the two components meet only at the mixing block or spray tip, the film begins cross-linking immediately and sets fast, so a lined section can be inspected and returned to service quickly rather than sitting idle for days. The cured epoxy network is tight enough that water, dissolved salts and mild chemicals struggle to migrate through it, which is what protects the steel or concrete substrate from corrosion and leaching at the same time. For potable duty the same density works in the owner’s favour: a fully cured, non-toxic film does not impart taste, odour or extractables to the water, which is precisely what BS 6920 and WRAS testing verify.
Where it is used
- Internal lining of steel potable-water transmission and distribution mains
- External lining and corrosion protection of buried or exposed steel water pipe
- Internal epoxy lining of concrete water pipes and channels
- Pipework and fittings inside water treatment and pumping plants
- Internal lining of steel and concrete water storage tanks and vessels
- Food and beverage process pipelines and equipment requiring a food-grade finish
- Rehabilitation lining of existing pipelines during maintenance shutdowns
- Equipment surfaces where abrasion and chemical resistance are the primary concern
Key advantages
- Food-grade and non-toxic, suitable for direct contact with potable water
- WRAS Approved and conformant to BS 6920:2014, IS 16676:2017 and AWWA C-210:2003
- Solvent-free with effectively zero VOC, safe to apply inside confined pipes and tanks
- High film build exceeding 400 micron in a single spray coat, extendable with further passes
- Fast setting, which shortens pipeline downtime during maintenance and lining work
- Excellent abrasion and chemical resistance for demanding flow conditions
- Very low permeability that protects both steel and concrete substrates from corrosion
- Applies to both steel and concrete, simplifying mixed-material pipeline projects
Limitations & considerations
- Requires plural-feed or single-feed airless spray equipment and a trained applicator; it is not a hand-applied product
- Steel substrates need abrasive blast cleaning to a specified standard before coating, which adds surface-preparation cost and time
- As a fast-setting two-component system it has a limited working window once mixed, demanding correct metering and pot-life discipline
- Confined-space lining of pipes and tanks requires ventilation, access and safety controls even though the product is solvent-free
- Potable-water service typically requires a full cure and a flush or disinfection step before commissioning, not immediate use on cure
- Not intended as a decorative or general architectural coating; its value is specific to water-contact and pipeline lining duty
Selection & best practice
Success with ShaliPoxy 400 is decided at the surface-preparation stage. Steel should be abrasive blast-cleaned to the standard called for in the specification, kept free of flash rust, and coated while clean and dry; concrete should be sound, cleaned and prepared to accept the lining. Because it is a plural-component product, use correctly calibrated airless spray equipment so the resin and hardener are metered at the right ratio and mixed thoroughly at the tip, and apply within the material’s working window. Build the film to the specified dry thickness in the intended number of passes, then verify DFT and check for holidays or pinholes before the line goes back into service. For potable-water applications, allow full cure and carry out the required flushing or disinfection before commissioning. When in doubt on a specific pipe diameter, substrate or standard, follow the current STP technical data sheet and our applicator guidance rather than generic epoxy practice.

How we position STP ShaliPoxy 400
ShaliPoxy 400 is the food-grade, spray-lining specialist in the STP anti-corrosion range. Where a project needs a high-build coating for structural steel or general immersion rather than potable-water duty, other STP epoxies such as ShaliPoxy GF suit better, and STP’s ShaliMastic coal-tar systems remain the economical choice for buried or non-contact steel where drinking-water approval is not required. Across our other brands, Fosroc’s Nitocote food-grade linings cover the same potable-water tank and vessel space, and for structural concrete repair around the pipeline or tank we would pair the lining with a Fosroc Renderoc or STP repair mortar rather than stretch a lining product beyond its purpose.
Fosroc Nitocote EP405 — Specify the Fosroc option when the project calls for a hand-applied, 100% solids epoxy lining for potable-water tanks and food-contact vessels rather than a spray-applied pipeline lining.
