About STP ShaliBond TPO
ShaliBond TPO is STP’s dedicated contact adhesive for fully adhered thermoplastic polyolefin roofing systems. TPO membranes are chemically inert olefins, which makes them notoriously fussy about what will stick to them, so a general-purpose construction adhesive rarely holds. This product is built around a synthetic-rubber base carried in solvent, tuned so that it wets both a porous concrete deck and the smooth, low-energy face of a TPO sheet and then cures into a continuous bond line across the whole roof rather than at scattered fastening points.
For Indian roofing crews, the appeal is that the entire membrane goes down cold. There is no torch, no hot-air weld gun for the field bond, and no ballast or fastener grid to design around. That keeps the installation quiet and low-risk on terraces above occupied floors, and it lets the membrane follow parapet upstands, plinths and rooftop projections cleanly. The technical insight
The performance comes down to contact-bonding chemistry rather than adhesive volume. Because the base is synthetic rubber dissolved at roughly 19% solids in a fast solvent, a thin, even coat spread on both faces lets the solvent flash off in about 10 to 20 minutes under normal ambient conditions. As it flashes, the rubber film develops tack while remaining pliable. When the two coated faces are pressed together in that tacky window, the rubber films interlock and fuse into one, so the grip is effectively instant and does not rely on a long open cure. The low specific gravity of around 0.84 and 1300-1500 cps viscosity keep the adhesive workable by hard brush, trowel or roller and help it key into a porous screed while still forming a coherent film on the smooth membrane. Rolling with a metal roller immediately after mating is what actually makes the bond: it collapses the two tacky films together and drives out the air pockets that would otherwise become blisters. Getting the flash-off timing right for the day’s temperature and humidity is therefore the single most important variable an applicator controls.

- Solvent must not be used to clean adhesive off skin, which limits site clean-up options
Selection & best practice
Start with a dry, sound, level substrate; grind or fill undulations, cracks and holes, and vacuum or brush off all dust, oil and loose material. Work to the day’s conditions rather than the clock alone, because ambient temperature and humidity change the flash-off time. Apply ShaliBond TPO in a thin, even film to both the deck and the underside of the TPO sheet using a hard brush, trowel or roller, keeping the film continuous with no dry gaps or heavy puddles. Let both faces dry until they are tacky but no longer wet-transferring to the finger, then lay the membrane in position, working from one edge to avoid trapping air. Immediately consolidate with a metal roller over the whole bonded area to press the two tacky films together and expel any pockets. Coordinate the field bond with the membrane’s own lap-jointing so the fully adhered field and the sealed seams form one watertight system. Keep the site ventilated, away from ignition sources, and crews in masks, nose cover and gloves throughout.
