What is it?

A four-component, pigmented epoxy resin floor topping that flows out into a smooth, seamless, light-reflective coloured surface at 0.5–1.5 mm thickness.

Where is it used?

Clean rooms, pharmaceutical and chemical laboratories, commercial kitchens and wash areas, plant rooms, light industrial production floors and similar low-to-medium duty interiors.

Why use it?

It delivers a dense, impervious, easy-to-clean finish with good chemical and abrasion resistance at a far thinner build (and lower cost) than 2–4 mm self-levelling screeds.

How is it applied?

Onto sound, dry, primed concrete (Nitoprime 25): mix the pre-weighed pack, pour and spread with a notched trowel/squeegee, then de-aerate with a spiked roller for a flat, pinhole-free film.

About Fosroc Nitoflor SL1000

Fosroc Nitoflor SL1000 is a thin-section, self-smoothing epoxy floor topping from Fosroc’s Nitoflor industrial flooring range. It is built around graded aggregates dispersed in a pigmented epoxy resin binder and is supplied as a pre-weighed, multi-component (four-part) system that is mixed on site immediately before laying. Once combined and poured, the material flows out and self-smooths into a dense, impervious, coloured film that cures to a hard-wearing, seamless surface. Because it is laid at only 0.5 to 1.5 mm, SL1000 sits at the entry point of Fosroc’s flow-applied epoxy floor family — below the heavier-build self-levelling screeds such as Nitoflor SL2000 and SL3000 — making it the natural choice where a facility needs a clean, sealed, chemically resistant floor but does not face heavy forklift impact or aggressive mechanical abuse. In the Indian market it is widely specified for interiors that demand hygiene and cleanability: pharmaceutical and laboratory spaces, food-grade kitchens, electronics and assembly halls, clean rooms, plant and switch rooms, and refurbishment of tired concrete in light-industrial sheds. The seamless, jointless finish removes the cracks and grout lines where dirt and bacteria collect, and the impervious epoxy film stops the dusting, spalling and chemical staining that bare power-floated concrete suffers within months of use. SL1000 is intended for trained, specialist applicators working to the Fosroc method statement, and the finished system is only as good as its substrate preparation and priming — which is exactly where an authorised applicator earns its place. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator covering Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies genuine Nitoflor SL1000 along with the matching Nitoprime 25 primer and provides application guidance, system selection and on-site support so that consultants, contractors and facility owners get a floor that performs as the datasheet promises.

The technical insight

The defining characteristic of SL1000 is that it is a thin self-smoothing topping, not a self-levelling screed. At 0.5–1.5 mm it follows — rather than corrects — the profile of the slab beneath it, so it cannot bridge undulations, gouges or falls the way a 2–4 mm SL3000 build can. That makes substrate flatness and preparation decisive: the concrete must be sound, fully cured (typically 28 days), mechanically prepared (grinding, scabbling or grit-blasting to remove laitance) and free of oil, and it must be primed with Nitoprime 25 so the topping bonds rather than de-bonds. Moisture is the other silent failure mode — the substrate should be dry, free of rising damp, and at a relative humidity not exceeding roughly 75% at the time of laying; where ground moisture is a risk, a damp-proof membrane must be in place first. As a pigmented, UV-sensitive epoxy it is an interior product: prolonged direct sunlight will cause ambering and chalking over time, so for exposed external decks a UV-stable polyurethane or aliphatic seal coat is the correct route. Pot life and cure are temperature-driven — in the Indian climate, high ambient temperatures shorten working time and accelerate set, so batches must be planned, mixed in full (never part-mixed) and laid promptly. Handled this way, SL1000 typically takes foot traffic at around 24 hours and light vehicular/service traffic at around 48 hours, with full chemical resistance developing over about 7 days.

Where it is used

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing rooms, formulation areas and quality-control laboratories
  • Clean rooms and controlled-environment interiors requiring a seamless, washable floor
  • Food-grade commercial kitchens, bakeries, dairies, wash-down and packing areas
  • Electronics, assembly and light-manufacturing production halls
  • Plant rooms, switch rooms, pump rooms and service corridors
  • Hospital and healthcare ancillary spaces where hygiene and cleanability matter

Key advantages

  • Seamless, jointless finish eliminates the cracks and grout lines that trap dirt and bacteria
  • Dense, impervious epoxy film is hygienic and very easy to wash down and disinfect
  • Good resistance to a wide range of acids, alkalis, solvents and water at ambient temperature
  • Good abrasion resistance that stops bare concrete dusting and surface wear
  • Thin 0.5–1.5 mm build uses less material and costs less than heavier self-levelling screeds
  • Self-smoothing flow gives an attractive, light-reflective surface that brightens interiors
  • Available in a range of standard colours, supporting zoning and a cleaner working environment
  • Fast application and overnight-class cure minimise facility downtime
  • Complies with IS 4631:2001 and carries GreenPro Ecolabel certification
  • Backed by Fosroc’s Nitoprime primers and trained-applicator network for system reliability

Limitations & considerations

  • Thin build follows the slab — it will not level undulations, falls or deep gouges (use SL2000/SL3000 for higher build)
  • Best suited to light-to-medium duty; heavy forklift impact and point loads call for a thicker topping or PU screed
  • UV-sensitive epoxy ambers and chalks in direct sunlight, so it is an interior product unless top-sealed
  • Performance depends entirely on substrate prep and priming — poor preparation causes de-bonding and pinholing
  • Sensitive to substrate moisture; rising damp or RH above ~75% can cause blistering and adhesion loss
  • Smooth finish can be slippery when wet — anti-slip aggregate broadcast is needed for wet-process areas
  • Limited high-temperature and thermal-shock tolerance versus PU/cementitious-urethane (Ucrete-type) systems
  • Requires skilled specialist application; pot life shortens in India’s heat, demanding tight batch planning

Selection & best practice

Treat SL1000 as a finishing layer over a properly engineered substrate, not a repair material. Specify it only where the concrete is sound, at least 28 days old, mechanically prepared to remove laitance, and dry (RH not exceeding ~75%, no rising damp; install a DPM where ground moisture is possible). Always prime with Nitoprime 25 at roughly 5.5–6.5 m²/litre and observe the overcoating window — do not lay onto tacky or fully glazed primer. Plan for a topping thickness of about 1.0–1.5 mm, allowing roughly 10 m² of finished floor per 15-litre pack at 1 mm, and add about 10% for wastage and surface irregularity. Mix each pack in full (base + hardener + filler + colour) — never part-mix — pour, spread to gauge with a notched trowel or pin-rake, then de-aerate with a spiked roller to release pinholes. In hot Indian conditions work in shaded, ventilated bays and lay promptly because pot life is short. For wet or wash-down zones, broadcast a fine anti-slip aggregate; for areas seeing sunlight or sustained UV, add a UV-stable polyurethane seal. Allow about 24 hours before foot traffic, 48 hours before light vehicular traffic, and around 7 days for full chemical resistance before the floor is exposed to spillages.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Fosroc Nitoflor SL1000?
It is a thin-section, self-smoothing epoxy floor topping — graded aggregate in a pigmented epoxy binder, supplied as a pre-weighed multi-component pack. Mixed and poured on site, it flows out to a seamless, coloured, impervious surface at 0.5–1.5 mm over primed concrete.
How thick is Nitoflor SL1000 and how much area does a pack cover?
It is laid at a nominal 0.5–1.5 mm, most often 1.0–1.5 mm. A 15-litre pack covers roughly 10 m² at 1 mm thickness; allow about 10% extra for wastage and surface irregularity, and prime first with Nitoprime 25 at around 5.5–6.5 m²/litre.
Where should SL1000 be used — and where should it not?
It suits light-to-medium duty interiors: clean rooms, pharma and lab spaces, kitchens, plant rooms and light industrial floors. Avoid it for heavy forklift impact, external UV-exposed decks (it ambers) and surfaces needing levelling — there, step up to a thicker Nitoflor screed or a PU system.
What surface preparation does it need?
The concrete must be sound, at least 28 days old, mechanically prepared to remove laitance, free of oil and dust, and dry (RH not exceeding ~75%, no rising damp). It must then be primed with Nitoprime 25. Skipping preparation or priming is the main cause of de-bonding and pinholes.
How soon can the floor be used after laying?
As a guide it takes foot traffic at about 24 hours and light vehicular or service traffic at about 48 hours, with full chemical resistance developing over roughly 7 days. Times lengthen in cooler conditions and shorten in heat, so plan the return-to-service around ambient temperature.
How is SL1000 different from Nitoflor SL2000 and SL3000?
They are the same flow-applied epoxy family at increasing build. SL1000 is the thin 0.5–1.5 mm finishing topping; SL2000 and SL3000 are higher-build (around 2 mm and 3 mm) self-levelling screeds that level minor undulations and carry heavier traffic. Choose by duty and how much the slab needs evening out.
Can Space Arc Engineering supply and apply it across India?
Yes. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator based in Delhi NCR with Pan-India reach, Space Arc Engineering supplies genuine Nitoflor SL1000 and Nitoprime 25, helps you select the right Nitoflor system for your duty and substrate, and provides application support through trained specialist applicators.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL1000

Within Fosroc’s own Nitoflor range, SL1000 is the thin-build entry point of the flow-applied epoxy family: specify it when you want a clean, sealed, chemically resistant finish on a flat slab, and step up to the higher-build self-levelling screeds Nitoflor SL2000 (~2 mm) or Nitoflor SL3000 (~3 mm) when the floor must level undulations or carry heavier wheeled traffic. Where slip resistance or impact in wet, heavy-duty process areas is the priority, Fosroc’s broadcast/trowel epoxy and polyurethane screed systems are a better fit than a smooth thin topping; if the substrate simply needs a hard-wearing concrete rather than a resin floor, a Nitoflor dry-shake hardener is the cheaper route. Measured against competitor systems, SL1000 occupies the same niche as Sika’s Sikafloor self-smoothing epoxies and BASF/Master Builders Solutions MasterTop epoxy toppings; for aggressive thermal-shock, steam-clean and heavy-impact food and beverage environments, cementitious-urethane systems such as MBS Ucrete (and PU equivalents from Sika and Fosroc) outperform any thin epoxy and should be specified instead. The honest positioning is therefore: SL1000 is an excellent, cost-effective hygienic floor finish for light-to-medium duty interiors over a well-prepared slab — and the wrong product for heavy mechanical abuse, thermal cycling, external UV exposure or any situation needing real levelling, where a thicker Nitoflor screed or a polyurethane system is the correct call.
