Fosroc Nitoflor SL1500
Solvent-free, high-build self-levelling epoxy floor coating (1.0-2.5 mm) for hard-wearing, hygienic, chemical-resistant industrial floors.
What is it?
A solvent-free, high-build, self-levelling (self-smoothing) epoxy resin floor coating from Fosroc, applied at 1.0-2.5 mm thickness to produce a seamless, jointless industrial floor finish.
Where is it used?
Industrial and commercial floors where a hard-wearing, dust-free, hygienic and easy-to-clean surface is needed – clean rooms, electronics and pharmaceutical assembly, engineering and manufacturing plants, warehouses, food and beverage areas and similar facilities.
Why use it?
It delivers a smooth, impervious, chemically resistant and seamless surface that resists abrasion and a wide range of industrial chemicals, is solvent-free (low odour during application) and lowers long-term floor maintenance cost.
How is it applied?
Laid by trained applicators onto a sound, primed concrete substrate: components are pre-weighed and mixed on site, then poured and spread to gauge with a notched trowel/squeegee and de-aired with a spiked roller to self-level into a continuous film.
About Fosroc Nitoflor SL1500
Fosroc Nitoflor SL1500 is a self-levelling epoxy floor coating engineered for industrial and commercial environments that demand a durable, seamless and easily cleaned surface. It is a solvent-free, two-component system based on epoxy resins and specially selected curing agents that give the cured film its hardness, abrasion resistance and resistance to chemical attack. Applied at a nominal build of 1.0 to 2.5 mm, it sits in the mid-range of Fosroc’s Nitoflor SL self-levelling family – thicker and tougher than a thin roller-applied coating such as Nitoflor FC150, but lighter than the 3 mm heavy-duty toppings like Nitoflor SL3000.
The product is supplied as pre-weighed base (Part A) and hardener (Part B) components so that the correct mix ratio is guaranteed on site; no part-mixing is permitted, as this affects both performance and appearance and invalidates the manufacturer guarantee. A useful feature of SL1500 is that its build and texture can be tuned: the system accepts an addition of 0.1-0.3 mm graded silica sand at roughly 1:0.3 to 1:0.7 by weight, allowing the applicator to increase film thickness, adjust flow, improve economy on rougher substrates and introduce a degree of slip resistance where required.
Because it is solvent-free, SL1500 is low-odour during application, which makes it well suited to occupied buildings, enclosed plant rooms and projects where ventilation is limited or where solvent emissions are a concern. Once cured it produces a dense, impervious, light-reflective surface available in a range of standard colours, helping brighten working areas and support housekeeping and hygiene regimes. For Indian projects, Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies SL1500 as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, pairing the material with trained installation crews and the correct Fosroc primer and ancillary products.
The technical insight
Nitoflor SL1500 is a “self-levelling” or self-smoothing system rather than a flowable trowel screed: it is poured and spread to gauge, and surface tension lets it flow out to a near-level finish before it gels. The cured film is a thermoset epoxy, so its performance is governed by full cure – typically light foot traffic within about 24 hours and full chemical and mechanical service after roughly 7 days at 20 degC, with these times shortening at higher Indian ambient temperatures and lengthening below 15 degC. Across the Nitoflor SL self-levelling range, compressive and flexural performance is assessed to BS 6319 (Parts 2 and 3), tensile to BS 6319 Part 7 and bond by pull-off to BS 1881 Part 207, where failure normally occurs within the concrete rather than at the interface – confirming that surface preparation, not the resin, is the limiting factor. The single most important technical control is the substrate: the system must be applied to sound, dry concrete (Fosroc guidance for the SL range is concrete at least 28 days old with moisture content not exceeding around 5%), primed with the appropriate Fosroc epoxy primer (e.g. Nitoprime 25) so the coating bonds and is not undermined by rising moisture or laitance.
Where it is used
- Seamless self-levelling floor finish for engineering and manufacturing plants
- Hygienic, dust-free floors for clean rooms and electronics / semiconductor assembly
- Pharmaceutical, cosmetic and healthcare production and packing areas
- Warehouse, storage and light-to-medium-duty production floors
- Plant rooms, switch rooms and service areas requiring a sealed, easy-clean surface
- Food, beverage and bottling facilities needing an impervious, washable floor
- Laboratories and quality-control areas requiring chemical resistance
- Refurbishment of worn or dusting concrete floors to restore a continuous, low-maintenance surface
Key advantages
- Solvent-free formulation – low odour during application, suitable for occupied and poorly ventilated spaces
- Self-levelling – flows out to a smooth, seamless, jointless finish with no laps or brush marks
- Hard-wearing with good abrasion resistance for industrial traffic
- Resistant to a wide range of industrial chemicals (specific resistance data available from Fosroc on request)
- Dense, impervious and hygienic surface that is easy to clean and supports good housekeeping
- Pre-weighed two-pack components ensure correct mix ratio and consistent on-site quality
- Build and texture adjustable by adding 0.1-0.3 mm silica sand (approx. 1:0.3 to 1:0.7) for thickness or slip resistance
- Available in a range of standard colours to brighten working environments
- Lower long-term maintenance cost versus untreated or worn concrete
- Declared under EN 1504-2 as a surface protection coating, backed by Fosroc’s technical support
Limitations & considerations
- Not a structural overlay – at 1.0-2.5 mm it protects and finishes the floor but relies on a sound concrete substrate beneath
- Requires professional surface preparation (grinding/grit-blasting, dust removal) and Fosroc priming; bond depends on this, not on the resin alone
- Substrate must be dry – concrete should be fully cured (around 28 days) with moisture content within Fosroc limits, or blistering/debonding can occur
- Standard epoxies tend to yellow and chalk under prolonged UV / direct sunlight, so it is intended for interior use
- Pot life and cure are temperature-sensitive; high Indian summer temperatures shorten working time and demand careful planning
- Part-mixing or altering the pre-weighed ratio is not permitted and voids the guarantee
- For very aggressive chemical or thermal-shock exposure, a PU/cementitious screed (e.g. Ucrete-type) may be more appropriate
- Confirm exact coverage, pack sizes and chemical-resistance figures against the current local Fosroc datasheet before ordering
Selection & best practice
Specify and install SL1500 on concrete that is at least 28 days old with moisture content within Fosroc’s limit (around 5%), after mechanically grinding or grit-blasting to remove laitance and contamination and removing all dust. Prime the prepared surface with the recommended Fosroc epoxy primer (e.g. Nitoprime 25) and overcoat within the stated window while the primer is no longer tacky. Mix only complete pre-weighed packs – add hardener to base, then any graded silica sand (0.1-0.3 mm at roughly 1:0.3 to 1:0.7) to reach the target build within the 1.0-2.5 mm range – using a slow-speed forced-action mixer, and apply continuously across each bay so wet edges are maintained. Pour, spread to gauge with a notched trowel or pin rake and de-air with a spiked roller. Plan placement around temperature: in hot weather work in the cooler parts of the day to preserve pot life. Allow about 24 hours before light foot traffic and around 7 days for full chemical/mechanical service at 20 degC, adjusting for site temperature. Always confirm coverage, exact pack sizes and the chemical-resistance schedule against the current Fosroc India datasheet for the project’s specific exposure.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL1500
Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, SL1500 is the mid-build self-levelling epoxy: heavier and more robust than the thin roller-applied Nitoflor FC150 / FC150 HP coatings, lighter than the 3 mm heavy-duty self-levelling toppings such as Nitoflor SL3000 (and the antistatic Nitoflor SL Conductive/Dissipative for ESD areas). It is typically primed with Nitoprime 25 and complemented by Fosroc repair and joint products like Nitomortar and Nitoseal on the same project. Against competitor systems it is broadly comparable to Sika’s Sikafloor self-levelling epoxies (e.g. Sikafloor-264/-2540) and to MBCC/Master Builders Solutions MasterTop epoxy floors; where service conditions involve aggressive chemicals, steam-cleaning or thermal shock, a polyurethane-cementitious screed such as MasterTop / Ucrete or a Fosroc PU floor screed is usually the stronger choice. SL1500’s sweet spot is interior, light-to-medium-duty industrial floors needing a hygienic, dust-free, chemical-resistant seamless finish, installed correctly over well-prepared concrete – and Space Arc Engineering supports specifiers and contractors in selecting between these options for the actual exposure on each project.
