What is it?

A two-pack, solvent-free epoxy resin floor coating system (base, hardener and colour pack) that cures to a seamless, impervious, chemical- and abrasion-resistant film over concrete.

Where is it used?

Industrial concrete floors where hygiene and chemical resistance matter: dairies, soft-drink and bottling plants, breweries, chemical and food-processing units, workshops, warehouses, car parks and showrooms.

Why use it?

It gives a durable, easily cleaned, low-maintenance finish that resists a wide range of industrial acids, alkalis, oils and solvents, with no solvent odour during application and a choice of textures and colours.

How is it applied?

Onto sound, dry, prepared concrete (primed with Nitoprime 25 where porous) as two roller- or squeegee-applied top coats, each at a minimum 200 microns, for a total dry film thickness of at least 400 microns; an antislip grain can be broadcast into the base coat where slip resistance is required.

About Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM

Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM is a high-performance, solvent-free epoxy resin floor coating engineered for industrial environments where the floor takes a beating from chemicals, oils, grease and constant traffic. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Nitoflor range of resin floor coatings and toppings, and shares the chemistry of the standard Nitoflor FC150 system: epoxy resins and curing agents specifically selected for their ability to withstand chemical attack. The product is supplied as a pre-weighed kit comprising a base component, a hardener and a separate Nitoflor colour pack, all of which carry reactive elements essential to the cured system, so the kit must be used as supplied without adding thinners. Once mixed and applied, it cures to a seamless, jointless, impervious membrane that is far easier to clean and decontaminate than bare or screeded concrete. For contractors, consultants and facility owners across India, the appeal is straightforward: a coating that protects the concrete substrate, improves hygiene, brightens the working environment with a wide colour range, and keeps long-term maintenance costs down. The IM designation is the variant supplied for the Indian and certain regional markets; its product chemistry, build and performance mirror the parent FC150 system, and the Fosroc IM datasheet declares conformity to EN 13813 (the European standard for screed and floor coating materials), a minimum total dry film thickness of 0.5 mm and a substrate adhesion of not less than 1.6 MPa. Because it is solvent-free, there is no solvent odour during application, which matters in occupied or enclosed plants such as food and beverage facilities. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor FC150-IM as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and pan-India projects.

The technical insight

The performance of any resin floor stands or falls on substrate preparation and the adhesive bond, not on the coating alone. Nitoflor FC150-IM is a coating-grade system (nominal 400-500 micron total build) rather than a self-levelling screed, so it follows the contours of the concrete and demands a sound, clean, mechanically prepared surface. New concrete should be at least 28 days old with moisture content below 5%; laitance must be removed by mechanical means (grinding or shot-blasting), not acid etching, which Fosroc explicitly does not recommend. The system is applied as two top coats, each a minimum 200 microns wet, with the second coat going down once the first reaches initial cure (12 hours at 20 degC, around 5 hours at 35 degC) and within the maximum recoat window of 36 hours at 20 degC (15 hours at 35 degC). Priming with Nitoprime 25 is only needed on porous or doubtful concrete. The cured film develops a 70 N/mm2 compressive strength, 40 N/mm2 flexural strength, 20 N/mm2 tensile strength, Shore D hardness of 85 and very low water absorption of 0.06% (ASTM C413), with broad chemical resistance verified to ASTM D543 over 7 days. A critical India-specific point is temperature: pot life roughly halves from 40 minutes at 20 degC to 20 minutes at 30 degC, and cure accelerates correspondingly, so on hot Indian sites the gang must mix smaller batches and move faster.

Where it is used

  • Dairies, food-processing and meat/poultry units needing hygienic, washable floors
  • Soft-drink production, bottling plants and breweries with wet, spill-prone areas
  • Chemical manufacturing and process plants exposed to acids, alkalis and solvents
  • Pharmaceutical and FMCG production and packaging halls
  • Warehouses, godowns and logistics floors under wheeled and foot traffic
  • Engineering workshops, assembly areas and maintenance bays exposed to oils and grease
  • Commercial kitchens and beverage preparation areas
  • Showrooms, internal car parks and basements needing a clean, coloured, dust-free finish

Key advantages

  • Solvent-free formulation – no solvent odour during application, suited to occupied and enclosed plants
  • Proven resistance to a wide range of industrial acids, alkalis, oils, fuels and solvents (tested to ASTM D543)
  • Seamless, impervious, hygienic finish that is easy to clean and decontaminate
  • Hard-wearing and abrasion resistant for durable, low-maintenance service
  • Slip-resistant textures available via Nitoflor Antislip Grains to suit wet or trafficked areas
  • Wide colour range to brighten work areas and demarcate hazard or zoning lines
  • Liquid-applied, monolithic protection of the concrete substrate
  • Pre-weighed packs reduce site mixing errors
  • Conforms to EN 13813 with declared adhesion not less than 1.6 MPa

Limitations & considerations

  • Not for substrates suffering rising damp, potential osmosis or relative humidity above 75% (per BS 8203 Appendix A)
  • Coating-grade build (approx. 0.4-0.5 mm), not a self-levelling screed – it follows existing floor profile and won’t level undulations or take heavy impact like a thick screed
  • Pot life is short and drops sharply in heat (about 40 min at 20 degC, 20 min at 30 degC), demanding disciplined batch sizing on hot Indian sites
  • Requires properly cured (28-day), dry (under 5% moisture) and mechanically prepared concrete; acid etching is not recommended
  • New concrete must be sound and free of laitance, curing-compound residue, oil and grease before coating
  • Epoxy chemistry can show slight shade change and reduced gloss under prolonged UV or extreme heat-and-humidity exposure (cosmetic, not structural)
  • Contains reactive epoxy components – skin/eye protection and ventilation needed during mixing and laying

Selection & best practice

Begin with substrate assessment: confirm the concrete is at least 28 days old, below 5% moisture and below 75% RH, then mechanically prepare (grind or shot-blast) to remove laitance and contamination – never acid etch. Repair defects with Nitomortar or Nitoflor EU5 and prime porous concrete with Nitoprime 25. Plan mixing around site temperature: in Indian summer conditions mix smaller batches because pot life can fall to around 20 minutes at 30 degC. Mix base and hardener thoroughly, add the colour pack and blend for at least 3 minutes with a slow-speed flameproof drill and paddle, scraping containers clean; do not add thinners. Apply two top coats by quality epoxy roller or squeegee at a minimum 200 microns each (250 microns base where antislip grain is broadcast), respecting the initial-cure and 36-hour maximum recoat window. Maintain expansion joints through the coating and seal with a suitable Fosroc joint sealant. Allow full traffic and chemical service only after the stated cure (e.g. 48 hours light/full traffic and 7 days chemical resistance at 20 degC). Always confirm current figures against the latest Fosroc India datasheet for the project.

Frequently asked questions

What is Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM and what is it used for?
It is a solvent-free, high-build epoxy resin floor coating. It is used on industrial concrete floors to provide a hard-wearing, hygienic, chemical- and abrasion-resistant finish in areas such as dairies, beverage plants, chemical units, workshops, warehouses and car parks.
What does the IM suffix mean and is it different from standard Nitoflor FC150?
FC150-IM is the variant Fosroc supplies for the Indian and certain regional markets. Its chemistry, build and performance mirror the parent Nitoflor FC150 system. The official FC150-IM datasheet declares EN 13813 conformity, a minimum 0.5 mm total dry film thickness and adhesion of not less than 1.6 MPa. Fosroc does not publicly define the IM letters, so confirm exact figures against the current local datasheet for your project.
How many coats are needed and what film thickness does it achieve?
It is applied as two top coats, each a minimum of 200 microns wet film, for a total dry film thickness of at least 400 microns (the FC150-IM datasheet states a minimum of 0.5 mm). A primer coat of Nitoprime 25 is added on porous or doubtful concrete.
What is the coverage and pack size?
Standard coverage is about 5.0 m2/litre per top coat at 200 microns; for an antislip texture it is about 4.0 m2/litre at 250 microns. The product is supplied in 4.5 litre packs including the colour pack. Coverage figures are theoretical and reduce with wastage and substrate roughness.
How long before the floor can take traffic and chemicals?
At 20 degC, allow about 24 hours for light traffic, 48 hours for full traffic, and 7 days before exposure to chemical spillage. These times shorten at higher temperatures (for example full traffic after 24 hours at 30 degC). Pot life is short – about 40 minutes at 20 degC and only 20 minutes at 30 degC – so plan batch sizes for the site temperature.
What surface preparation does Nitoflor FC150-IM need?
Concrete should be at least 28 days old, below 5% moisture, sound and free of oil, grease, laitance and curing-compound residue. Prepare mechanically by grinding or shot-blasting – Fosroc does not recommend acid etching. Repair defects with Nitomortar or Nitoflor EU5 and prime porous areas with Nitoprime 25. Do not apply over substrates with rising damp, osmosis risk or RH above 75%.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM

Nitoflor FC150-IM sits in Fosroc’s coating-grade tier of the Nitoflor range – a robust, chemical-resistant epoxy coating for sound concrete, rather than a heavy-duty self-levelling or screed product. Within the Fosroc family it pairs naturally with Nitoprime 25 (primer), Nitomortar and Nitoflor EU5 (substrate repair), and Nitoflor Antislip Grains (texture); where a thicker, self-smoothing finish is needed, specifiers typically step up to Nitoflor self-levelling toppings, and for heavy-impact or thermal-shock service to a Nitoflor or Conflor screed-grade system. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives in the same solvent-free epoxy floor-coating class include Sika (Sikafloor range, e.g. Sikafloor-264/-161 build-ups), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (MasterTop epoxy coatings), STP Limited (Vetonit/epoxy flooring lines) and, in the value/retail segment, Pidilite Dr. Fixit Roffe epoxy coatings; BASF-legacy and Ardex systems also compete on larger specifications. FC150-IM differentiates on Fosroc’s long India track record, pre-weighed packs, broad chemical-resistance data and the support of authorised applicators. For most Indian food, beverage, chemical and warehousing floors it is a dependable specification; the right choice between it and the alternatives usually comes down to required build thickness, chemical exposure, downtime tolerance and applicator availability. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and pan-India, can advise on the correct Nitoflor build-up and supply the matching primer, repair and antislip products for a complete system.
