What is it?

A solvent-free, two-coat epoxy resin floor and wall coating in the Nitoflor FC150 family, supplied in the anti-slip (AS) configuration that incorporates graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains to build a textured, slip-resistant surface.

Where is it used?

Industrial concrete and cement-mortar floors and walls in wet, trafficked or chemically exposed areas — dairies, soft-drink and bottling plants, breweries, food kitchens, chemical and pharma manufacturing, workshops, warehouses, garages, ramps, loading bays and internal car parks.

Why use it?

It combines high chemical, oil and abrasion resistance with a designed slip-resistant texture, an impervious hygienic finish and a solvent-free, low-odour formulation that can be applied in occupied or poorly ventilated industrial environments.

How is it applied?

Onto sound, dry, prepared concrete (28+ days old, moisture below 5%), primed with Nitoprime 25 where needed; the first epoxy coat is laid by roller or squeegee and dressed with Nitoflor Antislip Grains, then sealed with a top coat after the base coat reaches initial cure.

About Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM AS

Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM AS is the anti-slip member of the Nitoflor FC150 high-build epoxy floor coating range, engineered for industrial environments where a plain smooth coating would be a slip hazard. The base system is built on epoxy resins and curing agents selected specifically for their ability to withstand chemical attack, and it is supplied as a pre-weighed, factory-proportioned kit of base, hardener and colour pack so that the correct chemistry is achieved every time it is mixed on site. The “AS” designation refers to the anti-slip build, achieved by dressing the wet base coat with one of a range of graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains before sealing with a top coat; the official Fosroc listing describes the product as a solvent-free epoxy anti-slip coating for the protection of concrete and cement-mortar industrial floors and walls, including warehouses, manufacturing facilities, garages and storage tanks or silos. Because it is solvent-free, the material releases no solvent odour during application, which makes it well suited to food, beverage and pharmaceutical plants and to refurbishment work in operating facilities. The cured film is hard, dense and impervious — easy to clean and hose down — and it resists the dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, fuels, oils and detergents commonly spilled in process areas. For Indian contractors, consultants and procurement teams, FC150-IM AS sits in the mid-to-upper tier of Fosroc’s epoxy flooring offer: more robust and slip-safe than a thin floor paint, but lighter and faster than a trowel-applied screed, making it a practical specification where wet-process safety and chemical durability both matter.

The technical insight

The performance of FC150-IM AS comes from a high cross-link-density amine-cured epoxy matrix, which is what gives the cured coating its 85 Shore D hardness, very low 0.06% water absorption (ASTM C413) and broad chemical resistance (tested to ASTM D543 over 168 hours). The mechanical headline figures for the FC150 platform — 70 N/mm2 compressive, 40 N/mm2 flexural and 20 N/mm2 tensile strength — explain why the coating tolerates point loads, pallet traffic and trolley wheels without cracking or debonding. The anti-slip build is the technically distinctive part: instead of relying on a textured roller, the wet base coat is laid at a heavier 250-micron wet film and then fully or randomly broadcast (“blinded”) with Nitoflor Antislip Grain. After the base reaches initial cure (about 12 hours at 20 degrees C, 5 hours at 35 degrees C) the excess grain is vacuumed off and a top coat at roughly 4.0 m2/litre seals the profile, locking the aggregate in and controlling the final texture. Grain grade selection is the lever the applicator uses to tune the surface — a finer grain gives an estimated 0.75-1.5 mm system that is easier to clean, while a medium grain builds a more aggressive 1.5-2.0 mm anti-slip profile for ramps and constantly wet zones. Substrate discipline is critical: Fosroc specifies a relative humidity below 75% (BS 8203 Appendix A) and explicitly does not recommend acid etching as a preparation method, since the long-term bond — and therefore the durability of the whole system — depends on a clean, mechanically prepared, low-moisture concrete surface.

Where it is used

  • Wet-process food and dairy floors where wash-down water and organic acids demand both chemical resistance and underfoot grip
  • Beverage plants, breweries and bottling lines with constant spillage and pedestrian traffic
  • Chemical and pharmaceutical manufacturing areas exposed to dilute acids, alkalis and solvents
  • Workshops, engineering bays and maintenance areas subject to oil, grease, fuel and mechanical abrasion
  • Ramps, loading docks, walkways and internal car-park decks needing a defined slip-resistant texture
  • Cold stores, kitchens and back-of-house service areas requiring a hygienic, easily cleaned, impervious finish
  • Concrete and cement-mortar walls, plinths and bund areas in tank farms and storage facilities (per the official wall-protection use)

Key advantages

  • Designed slip-resistant texture using graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains, tunable for fine or medium-coarse finishes to match the wet-area risk
  • Solvent-free, low-odour formulation suitable for occupied, food-grade and poorly ventilated spaces
  • High chemical resistance — proven against a wide range of dilute acids, alkalis, solvents, fuels, oils and detergents (ASTM D543)
  • Strong mechanical performance: 70 N/mm2 compressive, 40 N/mm2 flexural, 20 N/mm2 tensile strength on the FC150 platform
  • Hard (85 Shore D) and abrasion-resistant for durable, low-maintenance service under traffic
  • Very low 0.06% water absorption gives an impervious, hygienic, easily cleaned surface
  • Pre-weighed base, hardener and colour packs ensure correct, repeatable on-site mixing
  • Available in a range of colours to brighten work areas and demarcate slip-hazard or traffic zones

Limitations & considerations

  • Not for surfaces suffering rising damp, osmosis risk, or relative humidity above 75% (BS 8203 Appendix A) — moisture is the most common cause of failure
  • Requires sound, clean, mechanically prepared concrete; Fosroc does not recommend acid etching as a preparation method
  • New concrete must be cured at least 28 days with moisture content below 5% before coating
  • Limited pot life — about 40 minutes at 20 degrees C and only ~20 minutes at 30 degrees C — so mixing must be matched to the working rate, a real constraint in Indian summer site conditions
  • As an epoxy, it can show slight shade change and reduced gloss under prolonged UV or extreme heat-and-humidity exposure; this is cosmetic, not a performance defect
  • The anti-slip build is a coating, not a thick self-levelling screed — it is not intended to bridge structural cracks, level badly out-of-tolerance slabs or take very heavy impact loading
  • No solvent thinners may be added; correct application relies on skilled, trained applicators

Selection & best practice

Confirm the slab is at least 28 days old with moisture below 5% and relative humidity under 75% before specifying; mechanically prepare (grind/shot-blast, never acid etch) and vacuum clean, then prime porous or doubtful concrete with Nitoprime 25 and repair defects with Nitomortar 30 or Nitoflor EU5. Plan pours around pot life — schedule application for cooler parts of the day in Indian summers because pot life roughly halves from 40 minutes at 20 degrees C to about 20 minutes at 30 degrees C — and mix base, hardener and colour pack for at least three minutes with a slow-speed flameproof drill. For the anti-slip finish, lay the base coat at 250 microns, broadcast the chosen Nitoflor Antislip Grain immediately to fully or lightly blind it, vacuum the excess after initial cure, then seal with the top coat within 36 hours (15 hours at 35 degrees C) to lock in the texture and achieve a continuous film. Always engage an authorised applicator and follow the current region-specific TDS.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM AS a real product?
Yes. It is listed on the official Fosroc website (fosroc.com/product/show/nitoflor-fc150-im-as) as a solvent-free epoxy anti-slip coating for industrial floor and wall protection, within the established Nitoflor FC150 epoxy floor-coating family.
What does the ‘AS’ in FC150-IM AS mean?
AS denotes the Anti-Slip build of the coating. The slip-resistant texture is created by dressing the wet base coat with graded Nitoflor Antislip Grains before applying a sealing top coat, giving a controlled non-slip profile rather than a smooth gloss surface.
How many coats and what thickness should be applied?
It is a two-coat system. In the anti-slip build the base coat is laid at 250 microns WFT and dressed with antislip grain, then sealed with a top coat — giving a minimum total dry film thickness of 400 microns and an estimated finished system of roughly 0.75-2.0 mm depending on grain grade.
What is the coverage and pot life?
In the anti-slip configuration the epoxy is applied at about 4.0 m2/litre per coat, with Nitoflor Antislip Grain at roughly 1.25-3.5 m2/kg. Pot life is about 40 minutes at 20 degrees C and around 20 minutes at 30 degrees C, so mixing should be paced to the working rate, especially in hot Indian conditions.
What surface preparation does it need?
Concrete should be at least 28 days old, sound, clean, and have moisture below 5% and relative humidity under 75% (BS 8203 Appendix A). Prepare mechanically — Fosroc does not recommend acid etching — and prime porous or doubtful surfaces with Nitoprime 25, repairing defects with Nitomortar 30 or Nitoflor EU5.
Which chemicals does it resist?
Cured FC150 resists a wide range of dilute acids (lactic, citric, acetic, hydrochloric, sulphuric, nitric), alkalis (sodium hydroxide, ammonia), solvents, petrol, oil, kerosene, detergents and bleach, tested to ASTM D543 over 168 hours. Full chemical-spillage resistance develops after about 7 days at 20 degrees C.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor FC150-IM AS

Within Fosroc’s own range, Nitoflor FC150-IM AS is the anti-slip configuration of the FC150 high-build epoxy coating and is typically specified alongside companion products — Nitoprime 25 primer, Nitomortar 30 or Nitoflor EU5 for repairs, and Nitoflor Antislip Grains for the texture. Where a thinner, lighter-duty floor paint is enough, Nitocote or a thin FC-grade coating may be more economical; where heavy chemical loading, thermal shock or thick screed build is needed, a Nitoflor self-levelling or trowel-applied system or a polyurethane screed would step up from this coating. Against the wider Indian market, credible alternatives for anti-slip industrial epoxy coatings include Sika (Sikafloor anti-slip epoxy systems with broadcast aggregates), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (MasterTop epoxy floor coatings), STP Limited (epoxy floor coatings and toppings) and, for lighter commercial-grade epoxy floor coatings, Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) — though Dr. Fixit is generally positioned more in waterproofing and value flooring than heavy chemical-process duty. FC150-IM AS earns its place where a specifier wants a proven, solvent-free, chemically resistant coating with a deliberately engineered slip-resistant texture for wet industrial areas, backed by Fosroc’s documented test data and application support. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc Engineering can supply the full FC150-IM AS system with the correct primers, grains and trained application to ensure the specified performance is actually achieved on site.
