Fosroc Nitoflor Metaltop NF
A non-rusting metallic-oxide dry-shake hardener that fuses into fresh concrete to deliver one of the toughest, most abrasion- and impact-resistant industrial floor surfaces available.
What is it?
A factory-blended metallic-aggregate dry-shake floor hardener (topping) based on specially selected non-oxidising, non-rusting metallic oxide aggregate, graded fillers, cement and pigments, broadcast onto fresh concrete and trowelled in to form a monolithic high-wear surface.
Where is it used?
Heavy-traffic industrial floors that take steel-wheeled trucks, forklifts and impact — loading bays, dispatch and warehouse floors, repair and machine shops, ramps, foundries, engineering plants and factory shop floors.
Why use it?
It gives a far harder, denser and more abrasion- and impact-resistant wearing surface than plain power-floated concrete, cuts dusting, and — being non-oxidising — avoids the rust staining associated with conventional iron-filing metallic hardeners.
How is it applied?
Applied as a two-stage dry shake onto freshly placed, bled and floated concrete, then power-floated and power-trowelled to fuse the topping monolithically into the slab, followed by curing.
About Fosroc Nitoflor Metaltop NF
Nitoflor Metaltop NF is Fosroc’s non-oxidising metallic dry-shake floor hardener, engineered for concrete floors that must survive the harshest mechanical service. The product is supplied as a ready-to-use dry blend in which the key ingredient is a specially graded non-rusting metallic oxide aggregate, combined with cement, hard fillers and colour pigment. Because the aggregate is non-oxidising, the cured floor does not develop the rust spotting and brown staining that can plague older iron-aggregate hardeners exposed to moisture — a meaningful advantage in damp loading bays, wash-down areas and humid Indian industrial environments.
The hardener works on the dry-shake (monolithic) principle. Rather than being a separate coating bonded later, the dry powder is broadcast directly onto the surface of fresh, plastic concrete while it is still able to absorb the topping. As the concrete is floated and trowelled, the metallic aggregate is worked into the top few millimetres of the slab and becomes an integral part of it. The result is a single, inseparable wearing layer — there is no bond line that can debond, blister or peel under traffic, which is the typical failure mode of thin applied toppings on heavily loaded floors.
For specifiers in India, the practical appeal of Metaltop NF is its combination of extreme surface hardness with economy. A metallic dry shake delivers performance well beyond what a non-metallic mineral hardener such as Fosroc Nitoflor Hardtop can achieve, yet it is applied during the concrete pour itself, so there is no separate down-time for a resin system to be installed and cured. It is offered in a range of colours so the finished floor also improves the working environment and supports zoning or housekeeping markings on the shop floor. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies Metaltop NF together with the compatible Fosroc curing membranes and joint systems needed to complete the floor correctly.
The technical insight
The performance of any dry-shake hardener is governed less by the bag and more by the timing of placement and the quality of the base slab — this is the single most important thing a contractor must understand. The metallic aggregate only becomes monolithic if it is broadcast while the concrete is still plastic and has bled, so that the topping draws moisture from the slab and hydrates with it; broadcast too early and the shake floats on bleed water, too late and it sits on a closed surface and delaminates. Base concrete should be a well-designed mix (typically 30 N/mm² grade or higher) with controlled water/cement ratio and minimal bleed, because excessive bleed dilutes the surface and a weak base limits the abrasion class the finished floor can reach. Metaltop NF’s non-oxidising chemistry is the second differentiator: conventional metallic hardeners use iron particles that oxidise where water sits, producing rust blooms; the non-rusting oxide aggregate in Metaltop NF avoids this, which is why it is preferred over standard metallics in wet or wash-down service. Abrasion resistance of the finished floor is properly assessed and classified to BS 8204-2 (special / class AR ratings), and the metallic topping moves the slab into the highest wear categories — markedly better than the depth of wear recorded on the same concrete left as a plain trowelled finish.
Where it is used
- Loading and dispatch bays subject to steel-wheeled and hard-tyred forklift traffic
- Warehouse and distribution-centre floors with continuous racking and MHE movement
- Vehicle repair workshops, machine shops and engineering shop floors
- Ramps and inclines where braking, turning and point loads concentrate wear
- Foundries, forging shops and heavy-engineering plants with impact and abrasion
- Factory production floors requiring a hard, low-dusting, easily-cleaned surface
- Defence, automotive and FMCG manufacturing floors where colour zoning aids safety
Key advantages
- Non-oxidising / non-rusting metallic aggregate — avoids the rust staining of conventional iron-filing hardeners, suiting damp and wash-down areas
- Exceptional surface hardness with high abrasion AND impact resistance — outperforms non-metallic mineral dry shakes
- Monolithic bond to the base slab with no separate bond line that can debond or blister under traffic
- Significantly reduces surface dusting, improving air quality and reducing cleaning load
- Economical, fast track method — applied during the concrete pour, no separate topping installation or long cure shutdown
- Available in a range of colours to improve the working environment and support floor zoning
- Part of the established Fosroc Nitoflor flooring system, with compatible curing membranes and joint sealants
Limitations & considerations
- Application is skill- and timing-critical — must be broadcast onto fresh, correctly bled concrete by an experienced power-float/trowel crew; not a DIY product
- Performance is capped by the base slab; a weak, over-wet or poorly cured base limits the achievable abrasion class regardless of the hardener
- Suited to new floors only — it is a monolithic dry shake, not a coating that can be applied to existing hardened concrete (use a bonded screed or resin system for that)
- Provides hardness and wear resistance, not chemical resistance — it does not replace an epoxy/PU coating where aggressive chemical spillage is expected
- Requires proper curing (e.g. a Fosroc curing membrane) immediately after trowelling; inadequate curing causes surface crazing and dusting
- Colour uniformity depends on consistent dosage, finishing and curing; some shade variation is normal across large pours and is not a defect
- Not anti-slip in itself — wet areas may need a separate anti-slip treatment such as Nitoflor Anti-Slip Grains
Selection & best practice
Specify a sound, low-bleed base concrete of at least 30 N/mm² with a controlled water/cement ratio, and place it to true level. Begin the dry shake only when the bleed water has gone and the surface will just bear the weight of a power float. Broadcast Metaltop NF in two stages — apply roughly two-thirds of the dosage first, float it in once it has darkened by absorbing moisture, then broadcast the remaining third at right angles to the first and float again for an even, monolithic finish. Do not add water to aid trowelling, as this weakens the surface. Power-trowel to the required closeness, then cure immediately with a Fosroc curing membrane (such as Concure) to prevent rapid moisture loss, crazing and dusting. Saw-cut and seal control/contraction joints at the correct spacing with a Fosroc joint sealant. Always use an experienced applicator; Space Arc Engineering can provide trained application crews and the full Fosroc system in Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

Industry use cases
Warehousing & Logistics
Distribution-centre and warehouse floors carrying constant forklift and reach-truck traffic use Metaltop NF to resist wheel abrasion and point loads from racking, keeping the floor flat, dense and low-dusting over years of MHE movement.
Heavy Engineering & Foundries
Machine shops, forging and foundry floors exposed to dropped tooling, dragged components and steel-wheeled trolleys rely on the metallic topping’s combined abrasion and impact resistance to avoid pitting and surface break-up.
Automotive & Manufacturing
Assembly and production shop floors specify Metaltop NF for a tough, easily cleaned surface, often using its colour options to zone walkways, work cells and forklift routes for plant safety.
Loading Bays & Ramps
Loading docks and ramps, where braking and turning concentrate wear, benefit from the monolithic hardened surface that will not debond under the shear and impact of constant vehicle movement.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor Metaltop NF
Within Fosroc’s industrial-flooring line-up, Nitoflor Metaltop NF sits at the heavy-duty end of the dry-shake family. It is the metallic, impact-resistant step up from Fosroc Nitoflor Hardtop / Nitoflor Hardtop Standard (non-metallic mineral dry shakes for general industrial floors) and is typically paired with Fosroc Concure curing membranes, Nitoflor anti-slip grains where slip resistance is needed, and Fosroc joint sealants such as the Nitoseal / Colpor range. Where chemical resistance or a seamless decorative finish is the priority rather than raw mechanical wear, the Fosroc Nitoflor epoxy and polyurethane coating systems are the appropriate alternative. Among competitor products, the closest direct equivalent is Sika Sikafloor-1 MetalTop (metallic dry-shake hardener); other credible options for similar specifications include MBCC/Master Builders Solutions Mastertop metallic and non-metallic dry shakes, Dr. Fixit / Pidilite industrial floor-hardener offerings, and STP / Sika non-metallic hardeners for lighter duty. For genuinely heavy impact-and-abrasion floors in Indian industrial conditions, a non-oxidising metallic dry shake such as Metaltop NF is generally specified over a non-metallic hardener, with the final choice driven by the required BS 8204-2 abrasion class, the colour scheme and budget. Space Arc Engineering, an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator in Delhi NCR and across India, can specify, supply and install the complete system.
