What is it?

A two- to three-coat, fast-cure polyaspartic (polyaspartic ester) floor coating system comprising Nitoflor PAFS Primer and Topcoat, with optional anti-slip grains. It is low-odour, non-taint (Campden certified) and forms part of Fosroc’s Rapid Return to Service (RR2S) range.

Where is it used?

Internal and external commercial and industrial floors, food-processing and storage areas, warehouses, balconies, walkways and any project where extended shutdown is not acceptable.

Why use it?

Each layer is touch-dry in around 60 minutes and the floor is trafficable within 2 hours, so kitchens, plants and warehouses can be recoated and returned to use the same shift instead of over several days.

How is it applied?

Apply the primer by squeegee, brush or roller at 0.5 kg/m2, broadcast anti-slip grains if required, then apply one or two coats of pre-pigmented topcoat at 0.4 kg/m2, recoating after roughly 50 minutes within a 5-30 C window.

About Fosroc Nitoflor PAFS

Fosroc Nitoflor PAFS is a resin flooring system built around polyaspartic (aliphatic polyurea-aspartic ester) chemistry rather than the epoxy or polyurethane binders that dominate most industrial floors. That choice is deliberate: polyaspartics cure far faster than epoxies, tolerate lower temperatures, and stay low in odour and free of taint, which is exactly what food, beverage and pharmaceutical operators need when they cannot vacate a facility for days. The system is classified by FeRFA as a Type 3 high-build floor coating and complies with both BS EN 1504-2 (surface protection of concrete) and BS EN 13813 (screed and flooring materials).

A Nitoflor PAFS installation is supplied as a kit. The two-component primer is site-mixed and rolled or squeegeed onto prepared concrete, anti-slip grains can be scattered into the wet primer or first topcoat, and the pre-pigmented two-component topcoat is applied over the top in one or two coats depending on traffic severity. For small areas a translucent topcoat with a separate pigment paste is offered so contractors can colour-match on site. The result is a seamless, waterproof, trafficable film available in Dark Grey, Mid Grey, Light Grey, Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, Black, White and translucent finishes.

What makes the product distinctive on Indian sites is the speed. With a touch-dry time of roughly 60 minutes per coat (temperature dependent) and full return to service in about 2 hours, an entire floor can be primed, coated and back in production within a single shift. For 24×7 food plants, cold-store anterooms, dairy and bottling lines, and busy warehouse aisles in Delhi NCR and across India where every hour of closure has a cost, that turnaround is the headline advantage. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor PAFS as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator.

The technical insight

The performance of Nitoflor PAFS comes from its polyaspartic ester binder, a slow-reacting variant of aliphatic polyurea that gives a usable pot life while still curing in roughly an hour. Independent test data on the system reports a bond strength to concrete of 3.8 MPa (EN 1542), well above the typical concrete tensile failure plane, so the coating fails the substrate before it debonds. Abrasion loss is 814 mg (EN ISO 5470-1 Taber) and wear under the BCA rotating wheel is 10 microns (EN 13892-4), placing it firmly in heavy-duty trafficked territory. Impact resistance is rated at 24.5 Nm (EN ISO 6272-1) and the cured film carries a Class B-s1 reaction-to-fire rating (EN 13501-1). Build is controlled by coat count: a single topcoat gives roughly 0.8 mm dry film thickness and a two-coat build gives about 1.2 mm, both excluding broadcast aggregate. Slip resistance is 42 (Class I) wet and 85 (Class II) dry by the pendulum test (EN 13036-4), and this can be tuned upward by selecting fine, medium or coarse anti-slip grains. Because the binder is aliphatic it is UV-stable and will not yellow outdoors, which is why it is rated for external balconies and walkways as well as internal floors. The key practical constraint is temperature: cure speed is genuinely temperature-dependent, so in cold conditions layers take longer and in hot conditions pot life shortens, demanding tighter batch discipline.

Where it is used

  • Food and beverage processing floors where taint and odour must be avoided (Campden-certified non-taint)
  • Pharmaceutical, dairy and bottling plants requiring same-shift turnaround
  • Cold-store anterooms and chilled areas needing a low-temperature-curing coating
  • Warehouse and distribution-centre aisles and loading bays subject to forklift and pallet traffic
  • Commercial kitchens, back-of-house and wet processing areas requiring a waterproof seamless floor
  • External balconies, walkways and access decks needing a UV-stable, anti-slip surface
  • Refurbishment and maintenance of existing floors where the facility cannot be shut down for several days

Key advantages

  • Rapid return to service in about 2 hours, with each coat touch-dry in roughly 60 minutes
  • Low odour and non-taint (Campden certified), suitable for occupied food and beverage facilities
  • Cures at low temperature, extending the installation window into cold and chilled environments
  • UV-stable aliphatic chemistry that resists yellowing for confident external use
  • Seamless, waterproof and durable film with strong 3.8 MPa bond to concrete
  • Selectable anti-slip grades (fine, medium, coarse) for tailored slip resistance
  • Easy site application by squeegee, brush or roller with no specialist spray equipment
  • Complies with BS EN 1504-2 and BS EN 13813, and rated FeRFA Type 3

Limitations & considerations

  • Cure speed and pot life are strongly temperature-dependent, demanding careful batching in hot Indian summers
  • Polyaspartic systems typically carry a higher material cost than conventional epoxy floor coatings
  • At 0.8-1.2 mm build it is a high-build coating, not a thick self-levelling screed; very uneven or heavily damaged slabs need prior repair or a screed
  • Requires properly prepared, sound, dry concrete; moisture and laitance must be addressed before priming
  • Fast recoat window (around 50 minutes) leaves little margin for error, so trained applicators and adequate manpower are essential
  • Not a chemical-immersion lining; for aggressive acid or solvent exposure a dedicated chemical-resistant system should be specified

Selection & best practice

Begin with sound, dry concrete prepared by captured-shot blasting or diamond grinding to remove laitance and open the surface, and confirm moisture is within limits before priming. Plan the job around the fast recoat window: stage materials, label batches and brief the crew so the primer is overcoated within roughly 50 minutes and topcoats follow before the previous layer cures past its recoat point. Mix each two-component pack fully and only what can be laid before pot life expires, working in manageable bays. Where anti-slip is required, broadcast the chosen grain grade evenly into the wet primer or first topcoat. Keep the deck within the 5-30 C application range, and in summer schedule work for cooler parts of the day to protect pot life. Provide cove skirting and detail drains and joints for hygienic food-area installs. Space Arc Engineering can provide a site-specific method statement and trained applicators for projects across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Nitoflor PAFS a real product?
Yes. Nitoflor PAFS is a current Fosroc polyaspartic floor coating system, listed on Fosroc’s official product site and on NBS Source. It is part of Fosroc’s Rapid Return to Service (RR2S) range and complies with BS EN 1504-2 and BS EN 13813.
What is the chemistry behind Nitoflor PAFS?
It is a two-component polyaspartic (aliphatic polyurea-aspartic ester) coating. This binder cures much faster than epoxy, tolerates low temperatures, stays UV-stable and is low in odour, which is why it suits occupied food and beverage facilities.
How quickly can the floor be used after coating?
Each coat is typically touch-dry in around 60 minutes and the floor is trafficable in about 2 hours, all temperature dependent. This same-shift turnaround is the system’s main advantage over conventional epoxy floors.
What coverage and thickness should I plan for?
Primer is applied at about 0.5 kg/m2 (roughly 10 m2 per pack) and topcoat at about 0.4 kg/m2 (roughly 12 m2 per pack). A single topcoat gives around 0.8 mm dry film thickness and two coats around 1.2 mm, excluding any broadcast aggregate.
Can it be used outdoors and in food areas?
Yes to both. The aliphatic polyaspartic binder is UV-stable for external balconies and walkways, and the system is non-taint (Campden certified) and low odour for use in food preparation and storage areas.
How does it compare with epoxy or polyurethane floors?
Polyaspartic Nitoflor PAFS trades a higher material cost for dramatically faster return to service, low-temperature cure and UV stability. Where downtime is the priority it wins; for thick self-levelling build or chemical-immersion duty a dedicated PU screed or chemical-resistant system is more appropriate.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor PAFS

Within the Fosroc Nitoflor range, PAFS is the rapid-cure specialist: where Nitoflor FC150 and similar epoxy coatings offer a lower-cost, robust seal and Nitoflor SL self-levelling epoxy or a Nitoflor PU screed deliver thicker monolithic build, PAFS exists to minimise downtime through polyaspartic chemistry. It pairs naturally with Fosroc surface preparation and concrete-repair products such as the Renderoc and Nitomortar ranges for slab reinstatement before coating. Among competing systems available in India, the closest alternatives are Sika’s Sikafloor polyaspartic and fast-cure coatings, MBCC/Master Builders Solutions (MBS) Ucrete and Mastertop floors, STP’s flooring coatings, and the broadly positioned Dr. Fixit Pidifin/Roffe flooring products; most of those competing lines lean on epoxy or PU chemistry, so PAFS’s genuine differentiator is the combination of 2-hour return to service, low-temperature cure and non-taint food-area suitability. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering recommends Nitoflor PAFS specifically for occupied, time-critical or food-grade floors, and will steer clients to an epoxy or PU screed system where thickness, chemical immersion or budget is the governing factor.
