What is it?

A four-component, trowel-applied polyurethane (PU) cement floor screed laid at 6-9 mm, comprising base, hardener, coloured filler and aggregate, primed with Nitoflor SL3000 UT.

Where is it used?

Heavy to very heavy-duty wet and dry process floors: food, beverage, dairy and pharmaceutical plants, cold stores and freezer rooms, breweries, abattoirs, chemical and engineering works.

Why use it?

It survives thermal shock and steam cleaning at 120 C (at 9 mm), resists a broad chemical range, is seamless, non-tainting and slip resistant, and gives a Type 8 (very heavy duty) floor to BS 8204-6.

How is it applied?

Specialist applicators shot-blast/grind the substrate, cut anchorage grooves, apply a Nitoflor SL3000 UT scratch coat, then screed and steel-trowel the RT6000 UT topping to 6 or 9 mm.

About Fosroc Nitoflor RT6000 UT

Fosroc Nitoflor RT6000 UT is the heavy-duty member of Fosroc’s polyurethane-cement (PU concrete) flooring family. Unlike thin epoxy coatings that sit as a film on the slab, RT6000 UT is a structural screed laid 6 to 9 mm thick and trowel-finished to deliver a dense, monolithic working surface that becomes part of the floor itself. It is supplied as a four-component system – liquid base, liquid hardener, coloured filler and a separately bagged graded aggregate – and is always installed over a Nitoflor SL3000 UT primer/scratch coat that seals the concrete and keys the topping to the substrate.

The defining characteristic of this product family is its tolerance of heat and thermal cycling. Conventional epoxy systems soften and debond when exposed to boiling water, steam cleaning or rapid temperature swings. RT6000 UT, being a PU-cement hybrid, handles this routinely: at 9 mm it withstands steam cleaning at 120 C with a moving lance and tolerates a service range of -45 C to +120 C, which is precisely why it is specified for both freezer rooms and hot wash-down areas in the same facility. It is water based and non-tainting, so it is acceptable in environments where food, dairy and pharmaceutical products are handled.

For Indian contractors, consultants and plant engineers, RT6000 UT is the floor of choice where you need genuine heavy-traffic durability plus aggressive chemical and thermal exposure resistance in a single seamless, hygienic, slip-resistant finish. It is positioned at the demanding end of industrial flooring – above ordinary epoxy self-levellers and floor hardeners – and Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies it as a specified, application-supported system rather than a loose material sale.

The technical insight

RT6000 UT is a polyurethane-cement (PU concrete) screed, not an epoxy. That distinction drives the whole specification. The cementitious hydration chemistry combined with a polyurethane binder gives it a thermal expansion coefficient (3.8 x 10-5 m/m.C to BS EN 1770) close to that of concrete, so the topping moves with the slab during steam cleaning and freeze cycles instead of shearing off – the failure mode that plagues rigid epoxies under thermal shock. The verified mechanical set is robust for a resin floor: 48 MPa compressive (BS 6319-2), 12 MPa flexural (BS 6319-3) and 4.5 MPa tensile (BS 6319-7) at 28 days, with pull-off adhesion exceeding the strength of the concrete itself (failure occurs in the substrate, not the bond line). Thickness is the key design lever: at 6 mm it is rated BS 8204-6 Type 7 (heavy duty) with a -20 C to +95 C service window, while at 9 mm it steps up to Type 8 (very heavy duty) with the full -45 C to +120 C range and steam-clean capability. The water-based, non-tainting formulation (IS 8639 non-taint pass) and very low water absorption of 0.045% (ASTM C413) are what make it suitable for food-contact-adjacent process areas. Designers should note the cure profile at 30 C: 8 hours to light foot traffic, 24 hours to light wheeled traffic, 48 hours to heavy traffic and 7 days to full chemical resistance.

Where it is used

  • Food, beverage and dairy processing floors with frequent wet wash-down and hot-water/steam cleaning
  • Cold stores, blast freezers and freezer rooms operating to -45 C (at 9 mm)
  • Pharmaceutical and fine-chemical production areas requiring a hygienic, non-tainting, chemical-resistant floor
  • Breweries, distilleries, bottling lines and abattoirs exposed to organic acids, sugars and fats
  • Commercial and institutional kitchens, central kitchens and bakeries
  • Heavy engineering, automotive and battery-room floors subject to impact and chemical spillage
  • Areas needing thermal-shock resistance where epoxy systems would debond

Key advantages

  • Withstands steam cleaning at 120 C with a moving lance and thermal cycling at 9 mm thickness – far beyond epoxy capability
  • Wide service temperature range: -20 C to +95 C at 6 mm, -45 C to +120 C at 9 mm; suitable for freezer rooms
  • Very high chemical resistance to organic and inorganic acids, fuels, mineral and hydraulic oils and solvents
  • Seamless, monolithic, hygienic finish with no joints to harbour bacteria – ideal for food and pharma
  • Water-based, non-tainting (IS 8639 pass) and non-flammable
  • Strong mechanicals: 48 MPa compressive, 12 MPa flexural, with pull-off adhesion stronger than the concrete substrate
  • Inherent light slip-resistant texture from the graded aggregate
  • Fast return to service – light foot traffic in about 8 hours at 30 C

Limitations & considerations

  • Not colour fast – it may yellow over time under UV and heat; more pronounced with lighter and blue shades (cosmetic only, does not affect performance)
  • Must be installed by trained specialist applicators per BS 8204-6 and the Fosroc PU-cementitious flooring method statement; not a DIY or general-contractor product
  • Always requires a Nitoflor SL3000 UT primer/scratch coat – the topping cannot be laid directly on concrete
  • Short working life once mixed – only 10-15 minutes for RT6000 UT at 30 C, demanding disciplined batching and continuous laying
  • Sensitive to ambient and dew-point conditions: do not apply if RH is or will be above 75%, or within 5 C of dew point, or below substrate/ambient 10 C
  • Concrete substrate must be sound (min RC30 / 25 MPa, surface tensile above 1.5 MPa) with a functioning damp-proof membrane; hydrostatic pressure can cause debonding
  • Steam-clean and full thermal-shock resistance are only achieved at the 9 mm thickness, not at 6 mm
  • Batch colour variation can occur; order full quantity from one batch where appearance matters

Selection & best practice

Specify the thickness to the duty: use 6 mm (BS 8204-6 Type 7) for heavy-duty dry/wet areas within a -20 C to +95 C range, and 9 mm (Type 8) wherever steam cleaning, freezer operation or genuine thermal shock is expected. Insist on mechanical preparation – grinding or vacuum-contained shot-blasting to expose coarse aggregate, never acid etching – and confirm the concrete is min RC30 (25 MPa), surface tensile above 1.5 MPa, with a functioning DPM. Cut anchorage grooves at all edges, day joints, drains, doorways and at regular intervals (twice the laid thickness deep, up to 18 mm). Always prime with Nitoflor SL3000 UT and lay the topping within the 12-48 hour overcoat window. Mix only full packs with a forced-action mixer, keep material and substrate at 15-30 C, and lay continuously given the 10-15 minute working life. Keep the substrate at least 3 C above dew point from priming until 48 hours after laying, and protect the new floor from water for at least 4 days using breathable Kraft paper, never polythene. For a specified project, have Space Arc Engineering review the substrate and exposure conditions before ordering.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nitoflor RT6000 UT an epoxy floor?
No. It is a polyurethane-cement (PU concrete) screed, not an epoxy. That is why it tolerates steam cleaning at 120 C and freezer temperatures down to -45 C (at 9 mm) – conditions under which rigid epoxy floors typically soften, blister or debond. Its thermal expansion is close to that of concrete, so it moves with the slab instead of shearing off.
What thickness should I specify – 6 mm or 9 mm?
Use 6 mm for heavy-duty service (BS 8204-6 Type 7, -20 C to +95 C). Step up to 9 mm (Type 8, very heavy duty, -45 C to +120 C) wherever there is steam cleaning, freezer operation, severe thermal shock or the heaviest impact and traffic. Steam-clean and full thermal-shock capability are only delivered at 9 mm.
What coverage and pack size should I plan for?
The RT6000 UT topping is supplied in 41.75 kg packs covering 2.6 m2 at 6 mm or 1.75 m2 at 9 mm. The mandatory Nitoflor SL3000 UT primer/scratch coat comes in 20.25 kg packs covering a nominal 10 m2. These are theoretical figures – allow for wastage and substrate texture, and have Space Arc work out project quantities.
Can it be applied directly over concrete?
Not directly. The concrete must be mechanically prepared (grinding or shot-blasting to expose coarse aggregate, not acid etching), anchorage grooves cut at edges and joints, and a Nitoflor SL3000 UT scratch coat applied first. The topping is then laid within the 12-48 hour overcoat window. The slab should be min RC30 (25 MPa) with a sound, dry, DPM-protected base.
Is it suitable for food and pharmaceutical environments in India?
Yes. It is water-based, non-tainting (passes IS 8639), seamless and easily cleaned, with very low water absorption (0.045%) and broad resistance to food-industry chemicals such as citric, lactic and acetic acids and common alcohols. This makes it well suited to dairies, food plants and pharma production floors that demand hygienic, jointless, chemically resistant surfaces.
How soon can the floor be put back into service?
At 30 C, expect light pedestrian traffic at about 8 hours, light wheeled traffic at 24 hours, heavy-duty traffic at 48 hours, and full chemical resistance after 7 days. Cure times lengthen at lower temperatures and are a guide only – prevailing site conditions affect them.
Will the colour change over time?
It can. RT6000 UT is not colour fast and may yellow under UV and heat, more noticeably with lighter and blue shades. This is purely cosmetic and does not affect strength, durability or chemical resistance. Where appearance is critical, choose mid-tone colours, order from a single batch, and set client expectations up front.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor RT6000 UT

Within the Fosroc range, Nitoflor RT6000 UT sits at the heavy/very-heavy-duty end of the polyurethane-cement flooring family and is laid as a two-stage system with its companion primer, Nitoflor SL3000 UT. It outranks Fosroc’s epoxy options – such as Nitoflor self-levelling epoxy toppings and the dry-shake Nitoflor Hardtop floor hardeners – in any environment involving steam cleaning, thermal shock or freezer service, where those epoxy and cementitious-hardener systems are simply not rated. Where the duty is lighter and dry, an epoxy self-leveller or a Hardtop hardener is the more economical Fosroc choice; RT6000 UT is the answer when thermal and chemical aggression are the governing factors. Among competing brands available in India, the closest equivalents are Sika’s PU-cement floors (Sikafloor PurCem / Sikafloor-21 N PurCem), MBCC/Master Builders Solutions Ucrete (the long-established benchmark PU-concrete floor), and BASF/MBS Mastertop PU-cement systems; Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP play mainly in epoxy and waterproofing rather than true PU-cement screeds, so they are not direct substitutes for this duty class. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies RT6000 UT as a specified, application-backed system across Delhi NCR and Pan-India – matching thickness and detailing to the actual exposure rather than selling material in isolation.
