What is it?

A 2 mm thick, flow-applied (self-levelling) polyurethane-based floor topping supplied as a pre-weighed four-component system (base, hardener, graded aggregate and colour pack). It cures to a dense, seamless, easy-clean surface with UV-stable and antimicrobial properties.

Where is it used?

Bakeries and confectionery units, pharmaceutical and healthcare facilities, food and beverage processing, textile manufacturing, clean rooms, laboratories, light-industrial plants and other hygiene-critical or chemically loaded areas across India.

Why use it?

It combines a hygienic jointless finish with high impact/abrasion resistance, broad chemical resistance, UV stability (resists yellowing) and tolerance of thermal shock and freeze/thaw cycling — addressing the gaps that conventional epoxy self-levellers leave in wet, hot-wash or sunlit areas.

How is it applied?

Specialist-applied over a primed, mechanically prepared concrete substrate: the four components are machine-mixed in sequence, poured, spread to 2 mm with a serrated trowel and de-aerated with a spiked roller for a smooth flow-applied finish.

About Fosroc Nitoflor SL 2000 UB

Fosroc Nitoflor SL 2000 UB is part of the Nitoflor SL high-build flooring range and sits at the premium, hygiene-focused end of Fosroc’s self-levelling portfolio. Where the standard Nitoflor SL2000 is a pigmented epoxy-resin/graded-aggregate topping, the SL 2000 UB is the polyurethane-based (“UB”) grade — formulated specifically to resist thermal shock, freeze/thaw cycling, UV-driven yellowing and microbial growth, while keeping the same flow-applied, self-levelling installation logic at a nominal 2 mm thickness.

The product is supplied in India as a pre-weighed four-component kit: a resin base, a hardener, a graded-aggregate filler pack and a separate colour pack. This factory-controlled packing is deliberate — Fosroc explicitly disallows part-mixing because under-dosing or skipping a component compromises both performance and appearance and voids the product guarantee. Once mixed on site, the material is poured onto a primed substrate and trowelled out to a uniform film that self-levels into a continuous, light-reflective, coved-capable floor with no joints to harbour dirt or bacteria.

For specifiers and contractors in India, the appeal is straightforward. Many industrial floors fail not because the resin is weak but because the wrong chemistry was chosen for the environment — an epoxy that chalks under skylights, or a coating that crazes when a 90 deg C wash-down hits a 20 deg C slab. Nitoflor SL 2000 UB targets exactly those conditions: pharmaceutical clean corridors that demand antimicrobial, easy-sanitise surfaces; bakeries and confectionery lines with ovens, steam and sugar; food and beverage halls with daily caustic cleaning; and textile or light-industrial bays that need abrasion resistance plus a presentable, colour-stable finish. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering supplies the topping together with its companion primers and on-site method-statement support so the system is installed exactly as Fosroc intends.

The technical insight

The “UB” suffix marks the key technical departure from the parent product. Standard Nitoflor SL2000 is an epoxy binder; SL 2000 UB is polyurethane-based, and that change of backbone is what delivers the three properties epoxy self-levellers struggle with — UV stability (epoxies chalk and yellow under sunlight/UV, polyurethanes hold colour), thermal-shock and freeze/thaw tolerance (the more flexible PU network absorbs differential expansion that would micro-crack a rigid epoxy), and an antimicrobial, non-porous surface for hygiene-critical zones. In both products the binder is loaded with graded aggregate, so the wear surface behaves like a resin-bound mortar rather than a thin paint film — the reason these toppings carry vehicular traffic where coatings cannot. Practically, the system is always a three-layer build: mechanical surface preparation, a penetrating epoxy primer (Nitoprime 25 on concrete, or Nitocote Primer Sealer / a sealer coat on steel grit-blasted to SA 2.5), then the 2 mm self-levelling wearing course. Substrate discipline is non-negotiable — concrete should be at least 28 days old, below 5% moisture content and under 75% RH, with laitance removed by grinding, scabbling or grit-blasting, because bond strength (not topping strength) is the usual failure point.

Where it is used

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing, formulation and clean-room corridors needing antimicrobial, easy-sanitise floors
  • Bakeries, confectionery and food-processing lines exposed to heat, steam, sugar and daily wash-down
  • Food and beverage plants with caustic/CIP cleaning and spillage of organic chemicals
  • Textile manufacturing and finishing areas requiring abrasion resistance and a dust-free finish
  • Clean rooms, laboratories and quality-control areas where a seamless hygienic surface is specified
  • Light-industrial production bays, plant rooms and packing halls needing a durable, colour-stable floor

Key advantages

  • Polyurethane-based chemistry resists UV/sunlight yellowing and holds colour over time, unlike standard epoxy self-levellers
  • Antimicrobial surface inhibits bacterial and fungal growth — suited to pharma and food hygiene regimes
  • Withstands thermal shock and freeze/thaw cycling, tolerating hot wash-downs and cold-store transitions
  • Seamless, jointless, light-reflective finish that is dense, impervious and easy to clean
  • High impact and abrasion resistance with good resistance to a wide range of industrial chemicals
  • Flow-applied self-levelling installation gives a fast, low-downtime application by trained applicators
  • Pre-weighed four-component packing removes site batching error and protects the Fosroc product guarantee
  • Available in a range of colours to demarcate zones and improve the working environment

Limitations & considerations

  • Must be installed by Fosroc-trained specialist applicators following the Product Method Statement — not a DIY product
  • Not for substrates suffering rising damp, osmosis risk or relative humidity above 75% unless a damp-proof membrane is installed
  • At a 2 mm nominal build it suits light-to-medium duty hygiene flooring; very heavy forklift/thermal-shock duty may need a thicker PU screed (e.g. heavy-duty 6 mm grades such as Nitoflor SL 6000 UB)
  • Should not be applied to asphalt, weak/friable concrete, unmodified sand-cement screeds, PVC tiles/sheet or substrates that move substantially
  • Application is temperature-sensitive — broadly avoid placing below ~10 deg C or above ~45 deg C; confirm UB-specific limits on the current India TDS
  • Chemical spillage must be cleaned promptly, as evaporation can raise concentrations beyond the floor’s resistance
  • Pot life is short once mixed, so continuous, well-resourced gangs are needed for a seamless pour

Selection & best practice

Treat the system as primer-plus-topping, never topping alone. Verify the slab is at least 28 days old, below 5% moisture and under 75% RH; mechanically remove all laitance and contamination, then prime concrete with Nitoprime 25 (or use Nitocote Primer Sealer over steel grit-blasted to SA 2.5) and observe the stated overcoating window before laying the 2 mm topping. Mix strictly in the sequence colour pack to base to hardener to aggregate using a forced-action mixer or slow-speed drill with the approved paddle, never part-mix, pour within pot life, and de-aerate with a spiked roller. Always confirm coverage, cure and chemical-resistance figures against the latest country-specific Fosroc TDS, and follow existing movement joints through the new floor. For project-specific substrate, thermal-shock or chemical-exposure queries, consult Space Arc Engineering or the local Fosroc office before specifying.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nitoflor SL 2000 UB an epoxy or polyurethane floor?
It is polyurethane-based. The standard Nitoflor SL2000 is an epoxy self-leveller; the SL 2000 UB grade switches to a PU binder, which is what gives it UV stability, antimicrobial performance and resistance to thermal shock and freeze/thaw cycling. Both are flow-applied, aggregate-filled, self-levelling toppings.
What thickness is it applied at, and how much area does a pack cover?
It is a 2 mm nominal self-levelling system. For the SL2000 family a 15-litre pack covers roughly 7.5 m2 at 2 mm; allow about 10% extra for wastage and surface irregularity. Because UB is the PU grade, confirm the exact coverage on the current India-specific Fosroc datasheet before ordering.
Where is it best used?
Hygiene-critical and chemically loaded areas: pharmaceutical and healthcare clean zones, bakeries and confectionery, food and beverage processing, textile manufacturing, clean rooms and laboratories. It suits places where an ordinary epoxy would yellow under UV or craze under hot wash-down.
Does it need a primer, and what surface preparation is required?
Yes. Concrete must be mechanically prepared (laitance removed by grinding, scabbling or grit-blasting), at least 28 days old, below 5% moisture and under 75% RH, then primed with Nitoprime 25. Steel must be grit-blasted to SA 2.5 and treated with Nitocote Primer Sealer. Skipping primer or prep is the most common cause of failure.
Can we install it ourselves?
No. Fosroc requires installation by trained specialist applicators following the Product Method Statement, and the components must never be part-mixed — doing so affects performance and appearance and voids the guarantee. Space Arc Engineering supplies the material and provides authorised applicator and on-site method support across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
How does it compare with other self-levelling floors?
Versus standard epoxy SL2000 it adds UV stability, antimicrobial action and thermal-shock tolerance at the same 2 mm build. Versus heavy-duty PU screeds like Nitoflor SL 6000 UB it is a thinner, lighter-duty hygiene floor. Comparable products from other brands include Sika Sikafloor PU systems, MasterTop (MBS/Master Builders Solutions) PU floors, Dr. Fixit Pidifin/Roff flooring resins and STP epoxy/PU floorings — the right choice depends on duty, thermal exposure and hygiene requirements.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor SL 2000 UB

Within the Fosroc range, Nitoflor SL 2000 UB is the polyurethane, UV-stable, antimicrobial upgrade of the popular epoxy Nitoflor SL2000, and it is installed with the same Fosroc ecosystem — Nitoprime 25 or Nitocote Primer Sealer as the primer, Fosroc Solvent 102 for tool cleaning, and Nitoflor coving/sealants for hygienic detailing; where heavier forklift duty or steam/cold-store thermal shock is involved, the thicker heavy-duty Nitoflor SL 6000 UB PU screed is the natural step up. Honestly assessed, it is not the only credible option in India: Sika’s Sikafloor PU self-levellers, Master Builders Solutions’ MasterTop PU range, Dr. Fixit/Roff resin floorings and STP’s epoxy/PU systems all compete in the hygienic-flooring space, and for purely light-duty, low-UV interiors a standard epoxy self-leveller may be more economical. SL 2000 UB earns its place specifically where UV stability, antimicrobial hygiene and thermal-shock resistance must coexist in a 2 mm self-levelling floor. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering can help specifiers in Delhi NCR and across India select between these grades and brands based on actual duty, substrate and exposure rather than headline price.
