Fosroc Nitoflor TF120UB
Heavy-duty polyurethane floor screed, 5-12 mm thick, built for steam-cleaned food, beverage and cold-storage floors that must shrug off thermal shock, abrasion and chemical attack.
What is it?
A four-component, polyurethane-based heavy-duty floor screed (a PU cement/concrete-type topping) laid 5-12 mm thick, supplied pre-weighed for on-site mixing in brick red, grey or mid green.
Where is it used?
Food processing plants, dairy and beverage bottling lines, cold stores and freezer rooms, commercial kitchens, breweries and restaurant back-of-house floors across India where hot water or steam cleaning is routine.
Why use it?
It withstands a -45 C to 115 C service range, thermal shock, freeze/thaw cycling and steam cleaning while resisting impact, abrasion and a wide range of food-industry chemicals, giving a seamless, anti-slip, hygienic floor.
How is it applied?
Sound concrete is prepared and primed with Nitocote Primer Sealer (dressed with Antislip Grain No. 3), the screed is force-mixed and laid by rake/trowel to a minimum 5 mm, tamped and steel-trowelled to a closed, textured finish.
About Fosroc Nitoflor TF120UB
Fosroc Nitoflor TF120UB is a heavy-duty, polyurethane-based floor screed designed to be laid between 5 mm and 12 mm thick over prepared concrete. It belongs to the family of polyurethane (PU) screed toppings that have become the default specification for wet, hot and chemically aggressive industrial floors, where conventional epoxy systems struggle with thermal shock and steam. The product is supplied as a pre-weighed four-component system (base, hardener, colour pack and filler/aggregate) that is blended on site, so site teams mix exactly what they lay and avoid batching errors. Standard colours are brick red, grey and mid green, and the cured surface is deliberately textured to give an anti-slip finish for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Because it is seamless and impervious at 5 mm, it eliminates the joints and grout lines where bacteria and dirt collect, which is why it is so widely chosen for hygiene-critical environments. Space Arc Engineering supplies and applies Nitoflor TF120UB as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, pairing the material with the correct Fosroc primer, anti-slip grain and joint-sealant accessories so the system performs as the datasheet intends.
The technical insight
The performance of Nitoflor TF120UB comes from its polyurethane binder chemistry combined with a graded mineral filler. Unlike rigid epoxy resins, the PU matrix has a coefficient of thermal expansion much closer to that of the concrete substrate, so when boiling water or steam hits the floor and is followed by a wash-down, the topping expands and contracts in step with the slab instead of debonding or crazing. This is what underpins its stated -45 C to 115 C service range and its resistance to freeze/thaw cycling in cold stores and blast freezers. The cured screed develops a compressive strength of 85 N/mm2 (BS 6319 Part 2), flexural strength of 25 N/mm2 (BS 6319 Part 3) and tensile strength of 15 N/mm2 (BS 6319 Part 7) – high enough to take forklift and pallet-truck traffic. Abrasion loss is only 0.05 g at 1000 cycles (ASTM D4060), it shows no damage under BS 8204 impact testing, and it passes ASTM G21 for fungal resistance, an important credential in food and pharma settings. The 5 mm minimum thickness is not arbitrary: it is the point at which the screed becomes impervious and gains the thermal mass to absorb shock, so screeding rods are used on site to police that minimum compacted depth.

- Seamless, impervious and hygienic at 5 mm, with no joints to harbour bacteria
- Good resistance to a wide range of food-industry chemicals, fuels, oils and cleaning agents
- Passes ASTM G21 fungal-resistance testing – suited to food and pharma hygiene zones
- Textured anti-slip surface for safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic
- Pre-weighed four-component packs reduce site batching error
- Non-flammable base and primer for safer installation
Limitations & considerations
- Must not be installed at temperatures below 5 C
- Substrate moisture content must not exceed 5%; concrete must be at least 14 days old at 20 C
- Should not be applied where rising damp, osmosis or relative humidity above 75% (BS 8203 Appendix A) is present
- Not suitable over asphalt, unmodified sand/cement screeds, or PVC tiles/sheet without consulting Fosroc
- Requires priming with Nitocote Primer Sealer and a forced-action mixer – free-fall mortar mixers are unsuitable
- Subject to colour change on contact with oxidising acids
- Fosroc does not recommend acid etching for floor preparation; mechanical preparation is required
- Short pot life once mixed (about 50 minutes at 35 C), demanding disciplined, well-staffed laying
- For chemicals or temperatures beyond the listed limits, the local Fosroc office must be consulted
Selection & best practice
Treat the substrate as the make-or-break step. Concrete must be sound, clean, dry (max 5% moisture), at least 14 days old at 20 C, and mechanically prepared by grit blasting, scabbling or grinding – never acid etching. Always prime with Nitocote Primer Sealer and dress the wet primer with about 0.5 kg/m2 of Antislip Grain No. 3 to form a mechanical key, then lay the screed only while the primer is tacky and touch-dry. Force-mix the full pre-weighed pack (base, colour, hardener, then filler) for 2-3 minutes in a Mixal/Cretangle-type mixer, lay to a minimum compacted 5 mm using screeding rods, tamp with a wooden float and finish with a steel trowel. Because pot life is roughly 125 minutes at 20 C but only 50 minutes at 35 C, plan crew size, bay sizes and material staging around the actual site temperature in Indian conditions and discard any material that has stiffened. Carry expansion joints up through the topping and seal with an appropriate Fosroc Nitoseal sealant.

Industry use cases
Food & Meat Processing
Slaughter, deboning and packing halls that are hosed with hot water and disinfectant daily, where the floor must stay impervious, fungal-resistant and crack-free under thermal shock.
Dairy & Beverage
Milk processing, bottling and brewing lines exposed to lactic/citric acids, sugar solutions and CIP wash-downs; the screed resists these spillages and steam cleaning at the listed concentrations.
Cold Storage & Logistics
Freezer rooms, blast freezers and chillers down to -45 C where freeze/thaw cycling would delaminate ordinary toppings; the PU screed flexes with the slab.
Commercial & Institutional Kitchens
Central kitchens, hotels, hospitals and canteens needing a seamless, anti-slip, easily cleaned floor that tolerates oil, grease and boiling spillage.
Pharma & Hygiene Zones
Production and wash areas where ASTM G21 fungal resistance and a jointless, bacteria-free surface support GMP-style hygiene requirements.

How we position Fosroc Nitoflor TF120UB
Nitoflor TF120UB sits at the heavy-duty, thermal-shock end of Fosroc’s flooring range. Where a project only needs a chemical- and abrasion-resistant coating without steam exposure, Fosroc’s epoxy systems such as Nitoflor FC150 or the self-levelling Nitoflor SL range are usually more economical; TF120UB earns its place specifically where hot wash-down, freeze/thaw or thermal cycling rules epoxy out. It is typically specified alongside companion Fosroc products – Nitocote Primer Sealer and Antislip Grain No. 3 for the substrate, the Nitoflor EU range for substrate repair, and Nitoseal joint sealants for movement joints. In the Indian market it competes most directly with other polyurethane cement/concrete screeds: Sika’s Sikafloor PurCem range is the closest like-for-like specification, with MBCC/Master Builders Solutions Ucrete and BASF-lineage PU screeds being established alternatives on large food and beverage projects. For lighter-duty or budget-driven kitchen and warehouse floors, brands such as Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) and STP offer epoxy and PU coating options, though these generally do not match the steam and thermal-shock credentials of a true PU screed like TF120UB. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, Space Arc Engineering specifies TF120UB where the duty genuinely demands a polyurethane screed and will recommend the more cost-effective Fosroc system where it does not.
