Product Overview
Sika Fiber-PP consists of specially treated, alkali-resistant monofilament polypropylene fibres that are added directly to concrete at the batching plant or mixer drum. When uniformly dispersed throughout the concrete matrix, these micro-fibres act as a three-dimensional reinforcement network that inhibits the propagation of plastic shrinkage micro-cracks before the concrete has achieved sufficient tensile strength to resist them on its own. This is particularly important in Indian site conditions where hot weather, wind, and low humidity accelerate surface evaporation and promote plastic shrinkage cracking in the critical hours after concrete placing. Sika Fiber-PP also improves concrete toughness and impact resistance in the hardened state. It is compatible with all standard admixtures and concrete mix designs and does not affect compressive strength at recommended dosages. Does Sika Fiber-PP replace steel reinforcement in structural concrete?
No. Sika Fiber-PP is a micro-reinforcement for controlling plastic shrinkage cracking and improving toughness in the hardened state. It does not replace structural steel reinforcement (rebar, mesh, or structural steel fibres) for load-bearing structural concrete design.
When should Sika Fiber-PP be added to the concrete mix?
Sika Fiber-PP should be added to the drum before or during batching of the concrete mix and mixed for at least 3–5 minutes to ensure uniform distribution throughout the concrete. Fibres added too late may not disperse evenly.
Will Sika Fiber-PP affect the surface finish of concrete?
At recommended dosages, Sika Fiber-PP may leave a slight fibre texture on power-floated surfaces before burnishing. Final power floating after initial set will generally produce a smooth surface.
