Fosroc Conbextra GPXtra
Prepacked non-shrink cementitious precision grout with a gaseous expansion system for confident gap-filling up to 100 mm — just add water on site.
What is it?
A ready-to-use, prepacked dry-powder cementitious grout that, mixed with clean water, becomes a flowable non-shrink grout. It uses a gaseous expansion system to compensate for plastic shrinkage and settlement, and is chloride-free with no metallic iron content.
Where is it used?
Baseplate and machine-foundation grouting, anchor-bolt and starter-bar fixing, structural underpinning, bearing pads, column kicker and pocket filling, and general non-shrink infill on civil, industrial and infrastructure projects across India.
Why use it?
It removes on-site batching guesswork, develops positive restrained expansion for full interfacial contact under the baseplate, and gives high early and ultimate strength without chlorides — so equipment can be commissioned with confidence.
How is it applied?
Pour a measured part of the bag’s water into the mixer, add the powder, mix to a uniform flowable consistency, then place continuously from one side of the void by gravity head or pump within the working time, keeping a positive grout head until the gap is full.
About Fosroc Conbextra GPXtra
Fosroc Conbextra GPXtra is a single-component, prepacked cementitious grout supplied as a factory-blended dry powder. On site the contractor adds only a controlled quantity of clean water to produce a flowable, non-shrink grout suitable for filling gaps up to roughly 100 mm in a single pour. It belongs to Fosroc’s well-established Conbextra family of grouts and anchoring materials, sitting alongside variants such as Conbextra GP, GP2 and GP3, but it is positioned for jobs where a generous gap and reliable flow are both required.\n\nThe defining feature is the gaseous (chemical) expansion system. As the grout sets in its plastic state, a controlled positive expansion develops that counteracts natural settlement and drying shrinkage. Under a confined baseplate this expansion is restrained, which drives the grout into intimate contact with both the substrate and the underside of the plate — the condition you actually want when a machine has to transmit dynamic and static loads through the grout. Because the material is prepacked, the cement, graded aggregate and admixtures arrive in fixed proportions, so the variability that comes from hand-batching cement, sand and expansion agent on site is largely engineered out.\n\nConbextra GPXtra is chloride-free and contains no metallic iron filings. That matters in two ways. First, there is nothing in the mix to corrode and stain or to cause disruptive rust expansion years after placement — a known failure mode of older iron-loaded grouts. Second, chloride-free chemistry protects embedded reinforcement and anchor steel, which is why this class of grout is specified around critical structural and equipment fixings. The product also develops useful early strength without relying on chlorides as an accelerator, so striking of forms and progress of follow-on work are not unnecessarily delayed.\n\nFor Indian contractors, consultants and procurement teams, the practical appeal is repeatability: a 25 kg bag, a known water demand, a predictable yield, and a grout that flows into place rather than needing to be rodded. Space Arc Engineering supplies Conbextra GPXtra as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with application support where the pour is critical.
The technical insight
The engineering value of Conbextra GPXtra lies in how its expansion is timed and restrained. Plain cementitious grouts shrink as they set and bleed, leaving voids and a reduced effective bearing area under a baseplate. Conbextra GPXtra instead generates a controlled gaseous expansion while still plastic, so settlement is compensated before the grout gains rigidity. When poured into a confined gap the expansion is held back, producing a low restraint pressure that presses the grout against the contact faces and maximises the effective bearing contact — the parameter that governs how evenly load is transferred. Specifiers should treat published strength figures as consistency-dependent: a flowable mix at the upper water dosage gives easier placement but slightly lower strength than a stiffer mix, so the water:powder ratio is the single most important variable a site controls. For load-bearing pours, confirming a minimum fresh wet density (typically in the order of 2150 kg/m3 for this grout class) is a quick field check that the water dosage has not been exceeded. Because it is a flowing, single-pour material, depth of lift and continuity of pour matter more than for trowel grades: cold joints, interrupted flow, or grouting into a dry substrate are the usual causes of underperformance rather than the material itself.
Where it is used
- Grouting under machinery baseplates, skids and structural steel column bases
- Fixing holding-down (anchor) bolts, starter bars and dowels into pockets and sockets
- Filling bearing pockets and seating bridge and precast bearings
- Underpinning and general non-shrink structural infilling where gaps are large
- Filling voids beneath crane rails, gantry bases and heavy static plant
- Duct and cable-trench infill and other confined non-shrink filling up to ~100 mm
Key advantages
- Prepacked dry powder — only clean water is added, eliminating on-site batching errors
- Gaseous expansion system compensates for plastic settlement and drying shrinkage, ensuring full interfacial contact
- Flowable consistency fills gaps up to ~100 mm in a single continuous pour, including under congested baseplates
- High early and ultimate strength developed without chlorides
- No metallic iron content, so no rust staining or corrosion-driven disruption over time
- Chloride-free chemistry protects embedded reinforcement and anchor steel
- Consistent, reproducible quality from factory-controlled proportioning
- Backed by Space Arc Engineering as authorised Fosroc distributor/applicator with technical support
Limitations & considerations
- Performance depends on water dosage — over-watering to ease flow reduces strength and density, so the mix must be controlled
- Single-pour material: interrupted flow, cold joints or partial pours can leave voids; continuous placement from one side is essential
- Designed for confined gaps up to ~100 mm; deeper or larger-volume pours may need a flowable micro-concrete (e.g. aggregate extension or a dedicated micro-concrete grade) — confirm with Fosroc data
- Requires a clean, sound, pre-saturated (saturated surface-dry) substrate and properly sealed formwork to develop restrained expansion
- Hot-weather placement shortens working time; very low temperatures slow strength gain — plan mixing water temperature and timing accordingly
- Not an epoxy grout — for chemical attack, high-temperature or very high dynamic-fatigue duty, an epoxy grout such as the Conbextra EP range is more appropriate
- Always verify the current region-specific Technical Data Sheet for exact dosage, yield and strength values before specification
Selection & best practice
Prepare and saturate the substrate first: clean to sound concrete, remove laitance, oil and debris, and keep the surface saturated surface-dry (free of standing water) before grouting. Build leak-tight formwork with a head box / hopper on the pour side and a vent or escape on the far side, leaving roughly 50–100 mm clearance for flow. Add the powder to the pre-measured water (not the reverse) and mix mechanically to a uniform, lump-free flowable consistency for a few minutes — avoid over-watering to chase flow, as this cuts strength and density. Place continuously from one side only so the grout pushes air ahead of it and arrives in a single front; maintain a positive grout head until the gap is completely full and grout appears at the far edge. Do not vibrate aggressively or rod a flowable mix. Cure exposed edges immediately with wet hessian, polythene or a Fosroc curing membrane to prevent surface drying. For critical or large pours, run a trial, check fresh wet density as a field control, and engage Space Arc Engineering’s application team to confirm dosage, pour sequence and curing for site conditions.

How we position Fosroc Conbextra GPXtra
Within the Fosroc range, Conbextra GPXtra sits in the Conbextra cementitious-grout family alongside Conbextra GP, GP2 and GP3 (general to high-strength precision grouting) and the Conbextra EP epoxy grouts (for chemical, thermal or severe dynamic duty); where the contractor wants to batch their own grout, the same expansion chemistry is available as the Cebex 100 admixture. GPXtra is best chosen when a free-flowing, single-pour, non-shrink fill up to about 100 mm is the priority. For very deep or high-volume voids, a flowable micro-concrete is the more economical Fosroc route, and for aggressive chemical exposure an epoxy grout should be specified instead. Against the wider market, credible alternatives an Indian specifier will recognise include Sika’s non-shrink grouts (e.g. SikaGrout range), MBS (MYK Schomburg / MYK LATICRETE precision grout lines), Dr. Fixit’s grouting compounds, and STP’s non-shrink cementitious grouts — most offer comparable prepacked, chloride-free, expansion-compensated systems. The practical differentiators are usually verified site strength at the working consistency, ease and reliability of a single-pour placement at the gap you actually have, local availability, and the quality of application support behind the bag. On the last point, Space Arc Engineering supplies Conbextra GPXtra as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, pairing genuine product with on-site guidance for critical grouting.
