Fosroc Conbextra GV-IC
Shrinkage-compensated, corrosion-inhibited cementitious grout engineered for large-volume foundation pours over 70 mm in aggressive, chloride- and carbon-dioxide-rich environments.
What is it?
A free-flowing, shrinkage-compensated cementitious grout from Fosroc’s Conbextra range, formulated with integral corrosion inhibitors and a chloride-free, low-exothermicity binder for deep, large-volume single pours.
Where is it used?
Heavy-duty machine base plates, turbine and pump foundations, bridge bearings, crane rails and anchor pockets where the grout gap exceeds 70 mm and the structure sits in a marine, coastal, industrial or chemically aggressive setting.
Why use it?
Combines high-flow precision grouting over thick sections with active corrosion protection for embedded steel and anchor bolts, so a single product handles both the structural and durability demands of aggressive exposure.
How is it applied?
Site-batched with controlled water, mixed to a fluid consistency in a forced-action mixer, then poured or pumped continuously from one side into a formed, pre-soaked gap so the grout flows across and expels air without segregation.
About Fosroc Conbextra GV-IC
Fosroc Conbextra GV-IC sits at the deep-pour, high-durability end of the well-known Conbextra grouting family. Like the standard Conbextra GV, it is a factory-blended, shrinkage-compensated cementitious grout supplied as a single-pack powder of graded fillers, cements and chemical additives that needs only clean water on site. What distinguishes the GV-IC grade is the “IC” element: an integral corrosion-inhibitor system carried within the binder. That makes it a purpose-built choice for foundations and anchorages that have to perform for decades in environments loaded with chloride ions or elevated carbon dioxide, where ordinary grout would offer little protection to the steel it encases.
The product is engineered specifically for large-section fills greater than 70 mm in a single placement. Deep grout pours generate heat as the cement hydrates, and uncontrolled temperature rise can cause cracking and loss of contact. Conbextra GV-IC is formulated for low exothermicity so that thick lifts can be placed in one operation without the thermal problems that affect ordinary high-cement grouts. It pairs that with excellent initial flow and flow retention, giving the placing crew enough working window to move material across a wide base plate or a long bearing seat before it stiffens. The result is full, void-free contact under the load-bearing element, which is the entire point of a precision grout.
Shrinkage compensation is central to its function. As cementitious systems cure they naturally tend to shrink, which would otherwise pull the grout away from the underside of a base plate and destroy the bearing it was placed to create. The Conbextra binder is designed to expand in a controlled way while plastic and to gain volume stability as it hardens, keeping the grout in positive contact with both the substrate and the steel above it. The mix is chloride-free, so it does not itself introduce the aggressive ions that drive reinforcement and anchor-bolt corrosion, and the added inhibitor system goes a step further by actively suppressing corrosion of embedded steel exposed to external chloride or carbonation.
For an Indian contractor, consultant or procurement team, Conbextra GV-IC is best understood as the “aggressive-environment, deep-section” member of the Conbextra grout line-up: where Conbextra GP and GP2 cover everyday machine grouting up to moderate gaps and Conbextra GV / GV08 handle deep pours in normal exposure, GV-IC is the grade you reach for when the gap is deep AND the environment is corrosive. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies the product with the technical and on-site support that this class of application demands.
The technical insight
The engineering value of Conbextra GV-IC lies in solving two problems that usually pull a grout design in opposite directions. A deep single pour over 70 mm wants a high binder content to develop strength and flow, but a high binder content raises the heat of hydration and the risk of thermal cracking in a thick section. Fosroc resolves this by using a graded-aggregate, low-exothermicity binder so the section can be filled in one lift without staged pours. Layer this against the durability requirement: in chloride-rich (coastal, marine, de-icing, effluent) or carbonation-prone settings, the grout is not just a structural shim, it is the cover that protects anchor bolts and any embedded reinforcement. A chloride-free mix avoids contributing aggressive ions, while the integral corrosion-inhibitor chemistry raises the threshold at which externally driven corrosion initiates on the steel surface. Practically, this means the specifier gets free-flow, self-levelling placement and high early strength for fast machine commissioning, plus an in-built second line of defence for the embedded metal — without having to combine a separate grout and a separate inhibitor admixture, which would complicate quality control on a deep, critical pour.
Where it is used
- Grouting of heavy-duty machine base plates where the bedding gap exceeds 70 mm
- Turbine, generator, compressor and large pump foundations in power and process plants
- Bridge bearing seats and bearing replacement pours requiring corrosion protection
- Crane rail and gantry baseplate grouting in ports and steel yards
- Anchor bolt and holding-down bolt pocket filling in aggressive exposure
- Foundations and equipment bases in marine, coastal and chemically aggressive industrial settings
- Deep structural fills in environments with high chloride-ion or carbon-dioxide concentrations
Key advantages
- Integral corrosion-inhibitor system gives active protection to embedded anchor bolts and steel in aggressive exposure
- Chloride-free formulation so the grout does not itself introduce corrosion-driving ions
- Shrinkage-compensated so it maintains positive, void-free contact under base plates
- Low exothermicity allows deep single pours over 70 mm without thermal cracking
- Excellent initial flow and flow retention for placing across large base plates and long seats
- High early strength supports rapid installation and faster commissioning of equipment
- Can be either poured or pumped, suiting confined and high-volume placements
- Factory pre-blended single pack needing only site water, improving on-site consistency
Limitations & considerations
- Engineered for thick sections over 70 mm in a single pour; not the economical choice for thin or shallow grout gaps where Conbextra GP or GP2 are intended
- Cementitious system, so not suited to environments needing the chemical resistance or bond of an epoxy grout such as Conbextra EP10 / EPGV
- Performance depends on disciplined water control, continuous one-direction placement and effective formwork; over-watering will reduce strength and stability
- Corrosion-inhibitor benefit supplements but does not replace correct cover, detailing and waterproofing of the wider structure
- Requires saturated-surface-dry, sound, clean substrates; placement quality is sensitive to surface preparation
- Hot Indian site conditions shorten working time and call for temperature control of water and mixed grout to preserve flow
Selection & best practice
Confirm the actual grout gap and exposure class first: specify GV-IC only where the section genuinely exceeds 70 mm and the environment is chloride- or CO2-aggressive, otherwise use the appropriate standard Conbextra grade. Prepare a sound, clean substrate and pre-soak it to a saturated-surface-dry condition, removing free water before placing. Build leak-tight, suitably vented formwork with adequate head and a placing trough on one side. Use the manufacturer’s stated water addition exactly, mix in a forced-action / mechanical mixer for the full mixing time, and never re-temper with extra water. Pour or pump continuously from a single side so the grout fronts forward and drives air ahead of it; do not place from multiple points. In Delhi NCR summer conditions, use chilled mixing water, keep bags shaded, and place early or late in the day to protect flow and limit heat build-up in the deep section. Cure exposed surfaces immediately with Fosroc Concure curing compound or wet hessian to prevent plastic shrinkage. Always work to the current project-specific Fosroc TDS and have batch quantities and cube samples agreed with the consultant for a critical pour.

How we position Fosroc Conbextra GV-IC
Within Fosroc’s grout portfolio, Conbextra GV-IC occupies a specific niche: deep pours over 70 mm in corrosive environments. It complements rather than replaces its siblings — Conbextra GP, GP1 and GP2 remain the workhorses for general machine grouting at moderate gaps, while Conbextra GV and GV08 cover deep pours in normal exposure; where chemical attack or very high bond is needed, the epoxy-based Conbextra EP10 / EPGV are the right call, and Fosroc’s anchoring resins (Lokfix range) suit bar fixing rather than baseplate bedding. Among competitors active in India, credible alternatives in the deep-pour / corrosion-resistant grout space include Sika’s SikaGrout and Intraplast-based high-flow grouts, MBS (MYK/MBS) precision grouts, BASF/MBS Masterflow grouts, and STP’s grout solutions; Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) is strong in waterproofing and repair but is less dominant specifically in heavy precision machine grouting. GV-IC’s differentiator is the combination of low-exothermicity deep-pour capability with a built-in corrosion-inhibitor system in one chloride-free pack, which is attractive where a specifier wants integrated durability rather than a grout-plus-admixture build-up. For Indian projects the practical decision usually turns on the exposure class, the verified TDS strength values, lead time and applicator support — areas where sourcing through an authorised distributor-applicator such as Space Arc Engineering adds value alongside the product itself.
