Fosroc Conplast SP430A2
Chloride-free sulphonated-naphthalene superplasticiser delivering up to 25% water reduction for high-strength, low-permeability concrete — safe with sulphate-resisting and prestressed work.
What is it?
A high-range water-reducing (superplasticising) concrete admixture based on sulphonated naphthalene polymers, supplied as a chloride-free brown liquid that disperses instantly in the mix water.
Where is it used?
Ready-mix and site-batched structural concrete, precast and prestressed elements, high-strength columns and rafts, pumped concrete and water-reduced durable mixes across Delhi NCR and Pan-India.
Why use it?
It cuts water demand by up to 25% at constant workability, lifting strength at all ages and reducing permeability, while staying chloride-free and compatible with sulphate-resisting cements.
How is it applied?
Added to the gauging water or run-down at the batching plant at roughly 0.6–2.0 litres per 100 kg of cementitious material, dispensed accurately and never onto dry aggregate or cement.
About Fosroc Conplast SP430A2
Fosroc Conplast SP430A2 is a member of Fosroc’s well-established Conplast SP430 superplasticiser family, formulated for Indian and regional construction where high strength, durability and pumpability are required from the same mix. Chemically it is built on selected sulphonated naphthalene polymers (SNF/SNP), a proven high-range water-reducing technology that physically disperses cement grains so the paste flows freely at a much lower water content. It is supplied as a ready-to-use brown liquid that disperses instantly when added to the mix water — no pre-dilution or special site equipment is needed beyond an accurate dispenser. The “A2” designation denotes a specific formulation tuned within the SP430 range; like the rest of the family it is chloride-free and therefore safe for reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete and for use alongside sulphate-resisting cements. For a contractor or RMC producer, the practical headline is straightforward: SP430A2 lets you take water out of the mix (the data sheet quotes water reductions of up to 25%) and convert that into either higher strength, lower cement content, longer pumping reach, or a denser, more durable cover zone — frequently a combination of all four. Because it works by dispersion rather than by entraining significant air or by chemically retarding set, it suits high-early-strength precast yards that need to strip and turn moulds quickly, as well as cast-in-situ structural concrete that has to be pumped to height. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator, supplies SP430A2 with batch documentation and trial-mix support so the dosage is dialled in against your actual cement, fly ash, GGBS and aggregate before it reaches the pour.
The technical insight
The performance of SP430A2 comes from electrostatic dispersion: the sulphonated naphthalene polymer adsorbs onto cement particles and imparts a negative surface charge, so grains repel each other instead of flocculating. That releases the water trapped inside cement flocs, which is why the same slump can be achieved at a markedly lower water:cement ratio. In a high-strength mix, holding workability constant and removing up to a quarter of the water can lower the w/c ratio enough to move concrete up one or more grades, while the denser, less capillary-porous matrix sharply reduces chloride and water permeability — the durability lever that matters most in coastal, marine and aggressive-soil work. SNF-based dispersants like SP430A2 give a strong initial plasticising effect with limited workability-retention time compared with newer polycarboxylate ether (PCE) types, so they reward placing concrete reasonably promptly after dosing; in long-haul transit or hot-weather pours this is managed by dosage timing or a retarder. The admixture is chloride-free and adds only marginal entrained air, so it does not compromise the embedded steel or the design air content. Compatibility should always be confirmed by trial mix, because SNF response varies with cement chemistry (C3A content, alkali level) and with the fly ash or GGBS replacement level used.
Where it is used
- High-strength structural concrete (columns, transfer girders, rafts, shear walls) where a low water:cement ratio is the design driver
- Precast and prestressed concrete yards needing high early strength for faster mould turnaround and de-tensioning
- Pumped concrete delivered to height or over long horizontal runs, where cohesion and flow without bleeding are critical
- Durable concrete for marine, coastal and aggressive-soil exposure, relying on reduced permeability for chloride resistance
- Ready-mix concrete production seeking cement-content optimisation at a target grade
- Water-reduced mixes with sulphate-resisting cement for foundations in sulphate-bearing ground
Key advantages
- Cuts water demand by up to 25% at equal workability, raising strength at all ages
- Chloride-free — safe in reinforced, prestressed and post-tensioned concrete
- Compatible with sulphate-resisting cements for aggressive-ground foundations
- Produces denser, lower-permeability concrete for improved durability and steel protection
- Improves cohesion, reduces segregation and bleeding, and enhances pumpability
- Ready-to-use brown liquid that disperses instantly — no site pre-mixing
- Supports high-early-strength precast production and faster mould cycles
- Enables cement-content optimisation and more economical high-grade mixes
Limitations & considerations
- As an SNF-based admixture, workability retention is shorter than polycarbonate ether (PCE) superplasticisers — concrete should be placed promptly after dosing
- Overdosing can cause retardation, excessive flow, bleeding or segregation; dosage must be established by trial mix
- Performance varies with cement chemistry and fly ash/GGBS levels, so site trials with the actual materials are essential
- Not a waterproofing or air-entraining admixture — does not replace integral waterproofers or air-entrainers where those are specified
- Requires accurate liquid dispensing equipment; manual eyeballed dosing risks inconsistent results
- In hot-weather or long-transit conditions a separate retarder or revised dosing strategy is usually needed
- Should not be added to dry cement or aggregate — must go into the gauging water or wet mix
Selection & best practice
Always establish the working dosage by trial mix with your project’s actual cement, supplementary cementitious materials and aggregates before bulk use — start near the lower end of the 0.6–2.0 L/100 kg cement range and adjust to hit target slump and strength. Add SP430A2 to the gauging water or as a run-down during mixing, never directly onto dry cement or aggregate, and use a calibrated liquid dispenser for repeatable accuracy. Account for the admixture water in the total water calculation, place and compact the concrete promptly because SNF workability retention is limited, and for hot-weather or long-haul deliveries plan dosing timing or pair it with a compatible retarder. Store the drums sealed, off the ground and out of direct sun within the recommended temperature range, and protect from frost. Confirm the current country-specific TDS and MSDS for SP430A2 with Space Arc before specification, since formulation values and pack options can vary by market.

Industry use cases
Precast & Prestressed
Precast yards use SP430A2 to run low water:cement, high-early-strength mixes so elements gain enough strength to strip moulds and de-tension strands quickly, improving daily mould turnover.
High-Rise & Infrastructure
For pumped structural concrete in towers, metros and bridges, the admixture maintains cohesive, segregation-free flow at reduced water content, helping reach high grades and long pump distances.
Marine & Aggressive Ground
Coastal jetties, foundations and basements exploit the reduced permeability and chloride-free, SRC-compatible chemistry to slow chloride and sulphate ingress and protect reinforcement.
Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC)
RMC plants dose SP430A2 to optimise cement content at a target grade, controlling cost while meeting strength, slump and durability specifications across multiple deliveries.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP430A2
Within Fosroc’s own range, Conplast SP430A2 sits in the established SNF-based SP430 superplasticiser family alongside variants such as SP430, SP430DIS, SP430ES2 and SP430 ITPQ; where longer workability retention or higher water reduction is needed, Fosroc’s Auramix and Structuro PCE-based ranges and the Conplast SP500-series are the natural step up, while Conplast P211 covers basic mid-range water reduction and Conplast RP264 adds set retardation for hot-weather or mass pours. Against the wider market, credible alternatives an Indian specifier would weigh include Sika’s Plastiment and SikaPlast/ViscoCrete superplasticisers, BASF/Master Builders Solutions (MBS) PozzolithBuilt and MasterGlenium PCE admixtures, and SNF-class products from STP and other domestic admixture makers; Dr. Fixit is better known for waterproofing than for high-range plasticisers, so it is usually a complementary rather than a like-for-like option here. SP430A2’s strengths in this field are its proven SNF chemistry, chloride-free SRC compatibility and strong early-strength response for precast, balanced against the shorter workability retention inherent to naphthalene-based admixtures. Space Arc Engineering supplies SP430A2 with trial-mix support and can cross-specify the right Fosroc or alternative admixture for your grade, exposure class and placing method.
