Product Overview
Cemtop HS is a factory pre-blended, single-component, high strength polymer-modified cementitious floor topping for bonded or unbonded application over concrete substrates to provide a hard-wearing, durable industrial floor surface. Applied at 15 to 40 mm thickness, Cemtop HS achieves very high compressive strength (above 50 MPa) and good abrasion resistance, making it suitable as a wearing surface for warehouses, distribution centres, workshops, retail stores, and light to medium industrial facilities where the base slab does not meet the surface quality required for service. Cemtop HS is particularly valuable in refurbishment projects — where an existing concrete floor is too deteriorated, too rough, or too low in strength to serve as a finished surface, Cemtop HS overlay reinstates a high-quality wearing surface without the disruption of full concrete slab removal and replacement. It is applied using floor laying equipment (straight edge, power float) to a flat, level finish and can subsequently be sealed, coated with Nitoflor epoxy coatings, or left as a natural concrete surface. The minimum application thickness for Cemtop HS as a bonded overlay is 15 mm. Thinner applications risk cracking and delamination. For unbonded overlays (where a slip layer or debonding membrane is used between the topping and base slab), the minimum thickness increases to 50 mm to provide adequate structural integrity as an independent slab. Most bonded industrial floor toppings are applied at 20 to 40 mm to balance material cost with structural performance.
Does Cemtop HS require reinforcement?
Bonded Cemtop HS toppings at 15 to 40 mm are generally applied without additional reinforcement when properly bonded to a sound concrete substrate — the bond provides the tensile continuity. For unbonded toppings, light fabric reinforcement (A142 or similar) is typically incorporated to control restrained shrinkage cracking. What is the required surface preparation before applying Cemtop HS?
The base slab must be mechanically prepared by shot blasting or scarifying to remove laitance and achieve a rough profile (CSP 3 to 5 minimum). The slab must be structurally sound with compressive strength above 25 MPa. All contamination, curing compounds, and loose material must be removed. For bonded application, Nitobond EP epoxy bonding agent is applied to the prepared substrate and Cemtop HS placed while the bonding agent is in the green tacky state.
