What is it?

A water-based polymer emulsion curing compound that is spray-applied to fresh concrete and renders, drying to a continuous film that seals in mix water for proper cement hydration.

Where is it used?

Pavements, runways, bridge decks, slabs, columns, beams and other large or vertical concrete surfaces where ponding or water curing is impractical.

Why use it?

It guarantees efficient, labour-light curing in one spray pass, reducing surface permeability, dusting, cracking and shrinkage while complying with ASTM C309.

How is it applied?

Applied by low-pressure spray to a freshly finished surface as soon as the bleed water disappears, at a coverage of 3.5 to 5.0 m² per litre.

About Fosroc Concure WB200

Fosroc Concure WB200 is a high-efficiency, water-based curing compound built on a polymer emulsion chemistry. In Indian construction, the single biggest threat to fresh concrete is not the mix design but what happens in the first 24 to 72 hours after placement. Under Delhi NCR summers, dry winds and direct sun, surface water evaporates faster than the cement can use it, leaving the top layer of the slab starved of moisture. The result is a weak, dusty, permeable skin that cracks early and never reaches design strength. Concure WB200 addresses this by being sprayed onto the freshly finished surface, where it dries to a continuous film that physically blocks moisture from escaping. The water trapped underneath is then available for ongoing cement hydration, so the concrete cures properly from the surface down rather than drying out prematurely. Supplied as a white emulsion that dries to a clear film, it lets applicators see exactly where they have sprayed, then leaves no permanent discolouration. Because it is water-based, it is non-flammable, low-odour and far safer on site than older solvent-borne resin compounds. For a project owner, the practical value is a hard-wearing, dust-free, low-permeability surface achieved without the labour, water consumption and reliability problems of traditional ponding or wet-hessian curing. Space Arc Engineering supplies Concure WB200 as an authorised Fosroc distributor across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical support on coverage, application timing and compatibility with subsequent floor finishes.

The technical insight

The performance of any curing compound is judged by how much evaporation it prevents, and Concure WB200 is rated at a water loss of less than 0.55 kg/m² when tested to ASTM C156 – the benchmark method for water-retention efficiency of liquid membrane-forming curing compounds. This comfortably places it within the ASTM C309 requirement for membrane-forming curing compounds. The white pigment also delivers a reflectance of more than 60%, which is significant in Indian site conditions: a reflective film bounces solar radiation away, keeping the slab surface cooler and slowing the thermal driving force behind evaporation. The film dries within about 4 hours, so the curing membrane is established well within the critical early window. As a polymer emulsion rather than a wax-heavy formulation, Concure WB200 is positioned as more compatible with subsequent trades – tile adhesives, screeds, coatings and toppings – than wax-based compounds that can leave a bond-breaking residue. That said, where a guaranteed inter-coat bond is critical, a bond test or mechanical abrasion of the cured film is still the correct precaution.

Where it is used

  • Curing of large horizontal slabs – industrial floors, warehouse and factory bases
  • Highway pavements, airport runways, taxiways and aprons
  • Bridge decks and other heavily exposed structural decks
  • Vertical and sloping surfaces – columns, beams, retaining walls, chimneys and towers where water curing is unreliable
  • Canal linings, reservoir walls and water-retaining structures
  • Renders and plastered surfaces requiring controlled, crack-free curing
  • Concrete surfaces that will later receive tiles, screeds or coatings, where a compatible curing membrane is needed

Key advantages

  • Water-based and non-flammable – safer to store, handle and spray than solvent-borne resin curing compounds
  • Single-pass spray application dramatically reduces labour compared with ponding or hessian curing
  • Conserves water on site – no continuous wetting required, valuable in water-scarce regions
  • White-to-clear film lets applicators see coverage during spraying, then dries transparent
  • Reflectance above 60% keeps the slab cooler under direct sun, reducing thermal cracking risk
  • Improves cement hydration, producing a denser, harder, less permeable and dust-free surface
  • Complies with ASTM C309, giving specifiers a recognised performance benchmark
  • Polymer emulsion base is more compatible with many after-trade applications than wax-based compounds

Limitations & considerations

  • Forms a temporary membrane only – it is a curing aid, not a permanent waterproofing or protective coating
  • Where strong bonding of later finishes is critical, the cured film may need mechanical removal or a bond test
  • Effective curing depends on correct timing – it must be applied after bleed water has disappeared but before the surface dries out
  • Coverage and film integrity drop on rough, textured or porous surfaces, requiring higher application rates
  • Not a substitute for good concrete practice – poor mix, finishing or placement cannot be cured by a membrane compound
  • Should not be applied below the manufacturer’s minimum surface temperature (around 10C) or onto frozen/frosted concrete
  • Spray drift and inhalation should be avoided; goggles and basic PPE are recommended during application

Selection & best practice

Apply Concure WB200 as a single, even spray coat using a low-pressure sprayer immediately after the surface bleed water has evaporated and the concrete can take foot traffic of the operative without marking – too early and the film is diluted by bleed water, too late and irreversible plastic-stage moisture loss has already occurred. Maintain the recommended 3.5 to 5.0 m² per litre; on heavily textured or floated surfaces work at the lower coverage figure to ensure a continuous film. Spray in overlapping passes to avoid pinholes, and keep the surface free of foot and plant traffic until the film has fully dried (typically within 4 hours). In hot, windy Delhi NCR conditions, schedule application to follow finishing closely and consider working in the cooler parts of the day. Where the slab will later receive tiles, epoxy or a cementitious topping, confirm compatibility and, if required by the finish specification, lightly abrade or remove the cured membrane before overlaying. Store drums between 5C and 35C and use within the 9-month shelf life.

Frequently asked questions

Is Fosroc Concure WB200 a waterproofing product?
No. It is a curing compound, not a waterproofing membrane. It forms a temporary film that seals moisture inside fresh concrete so it hydrates properly. For permanent waterproofing you would use a dedicated system such as Fosroc Brushbond or a Dr. Fixit/STP membrane.
When should Concure WB200 be sprayed onto a slab?
Apply it as soon as the surface bleed water has evaporated and the finishing is complete, but before the concrete starts to dry out. Spraying too early dilutes the film with bleed water; too late means early moisture loss has already occurred.
What coverage should I plan for?
The recommended rate is 3.5 to 5.0 m² per litre. Use the lower figure (around 3.5 m²/litre) on rough, floated or textured surfaces to ensure a continuous, pinhole-free film, and the higher figure on smooth, dense finishes.
Will it interfere with tiles, screeds or coatings applied later?
As a polymer emulsion it is more compatible with after-trades than wax-based compounds, but where a strong inter-coat bond is critical you should lightly abrade or remove the cured film and carry out a bond test before overlaying.
How is Concure WB200 different from solvent-based curing compounds like Concure A?
Concure WB200 is water-based, so it is non-flammable, low-odour and safer to handle on site. Resin/solvent-based compounds such as Concure A can offer different film and compatibility characteristics, but bring flammability and odour considerations that the water-based grade avoids.
Does it meet international standards for curing compounds?
Yes. Concure WB200 complies with ASTM C309, the standard specification for liquid membrane-forming curing compounds, and its water-retention efficiency is verified to ASTM C156 at less than 0.55 kg/m² water loss.

How we position Fosroc Concure WB200

Concure WB200 sits in Fosroc’s Concure family of curing compounds as the high-efficiency, water-based polymer emulsion option, positioned alongside the wax-emulsion Concure WB grades and the solvent/resin-based Concure A and Concure WB Clear variants. Choose WB200 when you want low-odour, non-flammable, single-pass spray curing with good after-trade compatibility; choose a resin/aluminised compound where maximum water retention or specific bonding behaviour is required. Compared with competitor offerings – Sika Antisol and Sika curing compounds, MYK/MBS curing aids, Dr. Fixit and STP curing membranes – Concure WB200’s core differentiators are its ASTM C309 compliance, verified ASTM C156 water-retention performance and the backing of Fosroc’s specification support. For complementary scope on the same project, it pairs naturally with Fosroc admixtures (Auramix/Conplast range) for the concrete itself, Nitobond for bonding, and Brushbond or Nitoproof where permanent waterproofing – rather than curing – is the requirement. Space Arc Engineering, as an authorised Fosroc distributor in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, can advise on the right Concure grade for each pour and supply the matching admixture, repair and protection products.
