Fosroc Reebol M10
Chemical mould release agent for clean stripping and blemish-free fair-faced concrete on steel, ply and timber shutters.
What is it?
Fosroc Reebol M10 is a ready-to-use chemical mould release agent (deshuttering / shuttering oil) — a pale straw-coloured liquid whose alkali-reactive chemistry forms a thin water-repellent film at the formwork-concrete interface so shutters strip cleanly.
Where is it used?
On steel, plywood, timber and plastic formwork across RCC building frames, bridges, precast yards, water-retaining structures and any project where a clean, uniform fair-faced concrete finish matters.
Why use it?
It releases shutters with far less effort than ordinary mould oil, cuts blowholes and staining, protects steel formwork against corrosion and timber from absorption, and extends shutter re-use — improving both finish quality and site economics.
How is it applied?
Applied neat by brush, roller, sponge or low-pressure spray as a thin, continuous film to a clean, dry shutter face before reinforcement is fixed and concrete is poured; surplus is wiped to avoid puddling.
About Fosroc Reebol M10
Fosroc Reebol M10 belongs to the long-established Reebol range of release agents used throughout the Indian construction industry to separate freshly cast concrete from formwork. Unlike a plain mineral oil, which simply lubricates the shutter face, Reebol M10 is a specially formulated blend of chemicals whose release performance is engineered to exceed that of conventional mould oils. It is supplied as a pale straw-coloured, ready-to-use liquid that requires no dilution or mixing on site — the applicator works straight from the container, which removes a common source of dosing error on busy Indian sites.\n\nThe defining characteristic of Reebol M10 is its chemically active mechanism. The product contains alkali-reactive constituents that react with the free alkali in the cement paste at the moment of contact. This reaction promotes a thin, water-repellent interface between the shutter and the concrete. Two things follow from this: first, the bond that would otherwise develop between cement paste and the shutter face is broken, so the form strips with minimal pulling force; and second, the water-repellent skin discourages the air and water that cause surface blowholes from being trapped against the face, helping deliver an even colour and texture across the cast element. The same film shields steel shutters from the moisture that drives flash rusting and protects absorbent timber and plywood faces from soaking up water and laitance.\n\nIn day-to-day terms, Reebol M10 is the grade contractors reach for when a genuinely fair-faced, architectural-quality concrete finish is specified rather than a rough structural pour that will later be plastered. Because it is non-staining and economical in use, it suits repetitive applications such as precast panels, columns, beams, soffits and shear walls where the same shutter is struck and re-pitched many times. By keeping the shutter face clean, it reduces the labour spent scraping and washing forms between pours, which in a tight construction programme is a meaningful saving. It is compatible with the full range of shutter materials seen on Indian sites — steel, aluminium, marine plywood, sawn timber and plastic — making it a versatile single product for a mixed formwork inventory. As part of Fosroc’s concrete admixtures and ancillaries portfolio, it sits alongside curing compounds, admixtures and surface retarders that together govern the quality of the finished concrete surface.
The technical insight
The technical value of Reebol M10 lies in being a ‘chemically active’ (reactive) release agent rather than a ‘barrier’ (inert oil) one. A plain mineral mould oil works purely as a physical separating film: it lubricates but does nothing to alter the cement chemistry at the interface, so any thick or uneven application can emulsify into the paste, dust the surface (retarding the skin) and leave oily staining or blowholes. Reebol M10’s alkali-reactive components instead consume free lime/alkali right at the contact zone to build a localised hydrophobic (water-repellent) skin. That reaction is self-limiting — it works at the very surface and needs only a thin, continuous film, which is precisely why over-application is the most common cause of poor results. A heavy, ponded coat leaves un-reacted material that can soften the concrete skin, cause retardation patches, dusting or colour variation. The practical rule that flows from the chemistry is ‘thin and uniform’: enough to wet the whole face, then wipe back any surplus. The high theoretical spreading rate typical of the Reebol release-agent family (of the order of tens of square metres per litre, varying with how porous and textured the shutter face is) reflects this — an absorbent new timber face drinks far more than a sealed steel or coated-ply face, so first-use timber consumes more product per square metre than steel that has been in rotation. For corrosion protection, the same water-repellent film is what keeps condensation off bare steel between pours, so shutters stored after striking benefit from the residual coat.
Where it is used
- Fair-faced and architectural concrete: columns, beams, shear walls and exposed soffits where an even colour and texture are specified
- Precast concrete yards: repetitive panel, lintel, kerb and modular element production using steel or GRP moulds
- Steel formwork systems: column boxes, wall forms and table/flying forms that need corrosion protection between pours
- Timber and marine-plywood shuttering: protecting absorbent faces and extending the usable life of ply panels
- RCC building frames and high-rise cores where consistent stripping and minimal making-good are required
- Infrastructure concrete: bridge piers, abutments, retaining walls and box culverts cast against re-used forms
- Water-retaining and basement structures where a dense, blemish-free surface skin improves durability
Key advantages
- Chemically reactive release outperforms conventional mineral mould oil, so shutters strip with less pulling force and less damage
- Promotes fair-faced concrete with even colour and texture and noticeably reduced blowholes and surface blemishes
- Non-staining in correct use, suiting exposed and architectural concrete that will not be rendered over
- Ready to use straight from the container — no site dilution or mixing, removing a source of dosing error
- Inhibits corrosion of steel formwork and protects absorbent timber/ply faces, extending shutter re-use
- Compatible with steel, aluminium, plywood, timber and plastic formwork — one product for a mixed inventory
- Minimises the cleaning and scraping of shutters between casts, saving labour and cycle time
- Economical coverage per litre on sealed faces keeps cost-per-square-metre low on repetitive work
Limitations & considerations
- Over-application is the main failure mode — thick or ponded films can cause dusting, retardation patches, colour variation or staining
- It is a release agent, not a curing compound or waterproofer; the concrete still needs proper curing after striking
- Best results need a clean, dry shutter face free of old paste, rust and previous build-up before each application
- Being oil/solvent-natured (non-water-based grade), it should be kept away from ignition sources and used with ventilation; confirm flash point and handling from the current MSDS
- Performance and consumption vary with formwork porosity, so coverage on new absorbent timber is far lower than on sealed steel
- Not intended for permanent surface treatment or as a release for non-concrete casting unless validated
- Country-specific datasheet values (specific gravity, flash point, exact coverage, pack sizes) should be confirmed against the latest Fosroc India TDS before specification
Selection & best practice
Apply Reebol M10 as a thin, continuous film and wipe back any surplus — ‘less is more’ is the governing rule for a reactive release agent. Start with a shutter face that is clean and dry: remove old concrete paste, laitance, rust and any previous heavy build-up so the new film reacts uniformly. Use a roller, sponge or fine low-pressure spray for an even coat rather than slopping it on with a brush, which tends to leave runs and pools. Coat the form before reinforcement is fixed, and do not let the agent contaminate the rebar or any construction joint where bond is needed. On new, absorbent timber or plywood, expect to apply more and let the first coat soak in, then apply a light second pass; on sealed steel a single thin coat is enough. Allow excess to drain off vertical faces and avoid puddles at the base of forms. Re-coat between every pour. For consistent architectural finishes, keep the same applicator method and film thickness across all forms on the elevation. Always keep containers closed, store cool and away from heat/ignition sources, and consult the current Fosroc India TDS and MSDS for the exact coverage, specific gravity and safety data for the pack you receive.

How we position Fosroc Reebol M10
Within Fosroc’s own Reebol range, Reebol M10 is a chemically reactive release agent aimed at fair-faced work, sitting above the economy oil-based grade Reebol M1 (a lower-cost mineral grade that can be diluted with water) and alongside the emulsified and water-based options — Reebol Standard, Reebol Emulsion / Emulsion Xtra and Reebol WB — which suit sites needing a low-odour, water-based, often higher-coverage product. Where curing rather than release is the need, pair it with a Fosroc curing compound (e.g. the Concure range); the two are complementary, not alternatives. Against the wider Indian market, Reebol M10 competes with chemically active mould release agents such as Sika Separol / Sika release agents, BASF/Master Builders Solutions (MBS) MasterFinish form-release agents, Dr. Fixit’s deshuttering/release products and STP (Shalimar) release agents. Reebol M10’s differentiator is the established Reebol reactive chemistry and Fosroc’s nationwide technical support; the water-based competitor grades (and Reebol’s own emulsion lines) can offer lower odour and easier clean-up where a chemically reactive oil-type film is not essential. As an authorised Fosroc distributor serving Delhi NCR and pan-India, Space Arc Engineering supplies Reebol M10 with genuine batches, current datasheets and application guidance, and can advise on the right Reebol grade — or curing/admixture pairing — for your specific formwork and finish requirement.
