What is it?

A two-component, pre-weighed polyester resin repair and jointing mortar available in a standard grade and an aggregate-extendable Concrete grade.

Where is it used?

Emergency concrete reinstatement, precast repair, kerb and manhole bedding, floor void infilling and fixing of slabs, kerbstones and tiles.

Why use it?

It develops strength faster than cement mortars, becoming stronger than concrete within two hours, and bonds without a substrate primer.

How is it applied?

Mix resin and hardener on site, trowel or pour into a prepared, saw-cut recess at 5 mm minimum thickness, and compact firmly.

About Fosroc Nitomortar PE

Nitomortar PE is Fosroc’s polyester-based answer to repairs that cannot wait for cement to gain strength. It arrives as a two-component kit: a liquid polyester resin and a powdered hardener, both pre-weighed so that on-site mixing stays consistent from pack to pack. The hardener system lets a crew dial the same material from a stiff trowellable mortar to a pourable fluid without meaningfully changing set times or final strengths, which is why one product covers everything from arris reinstatement to bedding kerbstones and fixing manhole frames. Where larger voids need filling, the Concrete grade accepts site-added sand or aggregate, stretching yield and cutting cost per litre placed.

The appeal for Indian contractors is speed under pressure. On a live warehouse floor, a loading bay, or a road that has to reopen the same shift, Nitomortar PE reaches strengths equivalent to mature concrete within two to six hours above 15 degrees C, and it will cure in damp, wet, or even underwater conditions down to 0 degrees C. It bonds to concrete, masonry, brick, and stone without a separate primer, and once cured it shrugs off water, petrol, oil, and most corrosive chemicals. Space Arc Engineering supplies it as an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical guidance on grade and consistency selection.

The technical insight

The performance comes from the polyester resin chemistry rather than hydration. Cement mortars need water to react and cure over days; Nitomortar PE cures by a resin-hardener reaction that runs to completion in hours and is largely indifferent to moisture, which is why it works on damp and submerged substrates where cementitious repairs would fail. The formulation keeps linear shrinkage to roughly 0.8 percent with no further movement after cure, so the patch stays keyed into the recess. The resulting bond to sound concrete is stronger than the tensile strength of the concrete itself, meaning failure, if it comes, occurs in the parent slab and not at the interface. At a flowable consistency the standard grade reaches 100 N/mm2 compressive, 28 N/mm2 flexural, and 14 N/mm2 tensile strength at 7 days to BS 6319, comfortably exceeding structural concrete.

Where it is used

  • Fast and emergency reinstatement of damaged concrete where downtime must be minimised
  • Repair and reprofiling of precast concrete units, damaged risers and stair treads
  • Infilling hollows, holes and voids in concrete floors before overlaying
  • Bedding and fixing kerbstones, manhole sets, gully frames and coping stones
  • Fixing brick slips, ceramic tiles and stone slabs where fast grip is needed
  • Repair of larger voids using the aggregate-extendable Concrete grade
  • Repairs on damp, wet or below-water substrates that rule out cement mortars
  • Jointing and reprofiling of masonry and brickwork requiring early strength

Key advantages

  • Develops strength faster than concrete, becoming stronger than concrete within two hours
  • No substrate primer required, with excellent bond to concrete, masonry, brick and stone
  • Cures under damp, wet or underwater conditions and works down to 0 degrees C
  • Versatile consistency, from trowellable mortar to pourable fluid, without altering strength
  • High resistance to water, petrol, oil and most corrosive chemicals once cured
  • Pre-weighed two-part packs give consistent, repeatable site mixing
  • Low wastage as part packs can be mixed to the quantity required
  • Concrete grade accepts site aggregate to fill larger voids economically

Limitations & considerations

  • Not recommended in contact with ketones, phenols, strong alkalis or oxidising agents
  • Must not be applied below 0 degrees C or over substrates contaminated with frost or ice
  • Should not be applied to damp or wet surfaces where bond is the sole reliance, nor exposed to moving water during placement
  • Working time shortens sharply as temperature rises, dropping to about 15 to 20 minutes at 25 degrees C for the standard grade
  • The resin is flammable with a flash point of 29 degrees C and must be kept away from ignition sources
  • Single-application thickness is limited to 12 mm for the standard grade and 40 mm for the Concrete grade; deeper work must be built up in layers

Selection & best practice

Saw-cut the repair perimeter to at least 5 mm to give a square edge and avoid feather-edging, then break out to a minimum 5 mm depth and remove all dust, laitance, oil and unsound material. Expose and grit-blast any corroded steel to bright metal and prime it with Nitozinc primer before proceeding; no substrate primer is needed for the mortar itself. Pour the resin into a clean bucket, add the hardener slowly with continuous stirring, and mix for about three minutes to a uniform consistency, batching only what can be placed within the pot life. Trowel firmly into place for full compaction, keeping the first layer slightly resin-rich on dense substrates, and build thicker sections in layers with a scratch-keyed surface between coats applied 8 to 24 hours apart. Restrict plan areas to 0.25 m2 for the standard grade and 0.50 m2 for Concrete, using a chequerboard sequence on larger areas, and clean tools with Nitoflor Sol immediately after use.

Industry use cases

Warehousing and logistics

Reinstating spalled floor joints and worn arris edges in busy distribution centres where the aisle must return to forklift traffic within the same shift.

Roads and highways

Emergency patching of concrete pavements, kerb bedding and manhole frame fixing where the carriageway has to reopen in hours, not days.

Precast and infrastructure

Repair and reprofiling of precast units, damaged stair risers and treads on site, restoring load-bearing profiles quickly before installation continues.

Water-retaining and marine structures

Repairs on damp or submerged concrete such as tank walls and channel edges, exploiting the resin’s ability to cure under wet and underwater conditions.

Industrial and chemical plants

Void filling and floor repairs in areas exposed to oil, fuel and dilute chemicals, where the cured polyester resists attack that would degrade cement mortars.

Frequently asked questions

Is Nitomortar PE an epoxy mortar?
No. Nitomortar PE is based on a polyester resin system, not epoxy. That chemistry is what gives it very fast strength gain and the ability to cure in damp, wet and underwater conditions. If you specifically need an epoxy repair mortar, Fosroc Nitomortar S is the structural-grade epoxy option.
How quickly can we return the area to service?
All grades develop strengths equivalent to mature concrete within a 2 to 6 hour window at temperatures above 15 degrees C, and the product is stronger than concrete within about two hours. Return-to-traffic timing depends on ambient temperature, so it is faster in warm conditions and slower in the cold.
Do we need to prime the concrete first?
No substrate primer is required for Nitomortar PE; it bonds directly to sound, clean concrete, masonry, brick and stone. The one exception is exposed steel reinforcement, which should first be grit-blasted to bright metal and primed with Nitozinc primer for corrosion protection.
What is the difference between Nitomortar PE and Nitomortar PE Concrete?
The standard PE grade is used neat for repairs up to 12 mm thick. The Concrete grade is designed to accept site-added sand or aggregate, which stretches yield and reduces cost when filling larger voids, and it can be placed up to 40 mm per layer.
Can it be used in cold or wet weather?
Yes, within limits. It cures down to 0 degrees C and under damp, wet or even underwater conditions, but it must not be applied below 0 degrees C, over frost or ice, or where it will be washed by moving water during placement. In genuinely cold weather the winter grade sets faster and is often the better choice.
How much material do we need per pack?
The product is supplied in 5 litre packs. The standard grade yields about 5.0 litres per pack, while the Concrete grade yields roughly 15 to 27.5 litres per pack depending on how much aggregate is added. Space Arc can help you estimate quantities from your repair volume.

How we position Fosroc Nitomortar PE

Nitomortar PE is the go-to when speed and moisture tolerance matter more than the ultra-high chemical resistance of an epoxy. Within the Fosroc repair family, step up to Nitomortar S, a three-component structural epoxy mortar, when you need maximum chemical resistance or deeper structural rebuilds; choose Nitomortar FC, a fine polymer-modified cementitious mortar, for fair-faced facade and cosmetic work where appearance is critical. Pair any of these with Nitozinc primer to protect exposed reinforcement before patching. Where the repair is a thin bonded overlay rather than fast jointing, our wider range across Sika and Dr. Fixit offers cementitious repair systems worth comparing. Space Arc can specify the right grade and consistency for your substrate, temperature and turnaround.
