What is it?

A two-component, solvent-free epoxy resin paste (base + hardener) supplied in pre-weighed 5 kg packs that cures to a hard, impermeable, non-slump filler and bedding compound.

Where is it used?

Surface preparation of concrete and steel before protective coatings, sealing of blowholes and minor cracks, and fixing of tiles, dowel bars and anchor bolts in industrial, water-retaining, marine and infrastructure structures.

Why use it?

It bonds to almost any substrate, holds on vertical and overhead surfaces without slumping, needs no separate primer, and leaves a smooth, fully sealed pore-free face ready for Nitocote or Nitoflor coatings.

How is it applied?

Mix the full hardener can into the base, then trowel, float or knife-apply 0.5–2.0 mm per pass onto a clean, sound substrate; for anchoring, half-fill the drilled hole and insert the dowel/bolt so the paste distributes around it.

About Fosroc Nitomortar TC2000

Fosroc Nitomortar TC2000 is a two-component, thixotropic epoxy compound formulated from high-quality, solvent-free epoxy resin systems. It sits in Fosroc’s Nitomortar family of repair and protection mortars, but unlike the trowel-applied structural repair grades it is a fine-textured paste engineered for a specific set of jobs: sealing the porous, pinholed or hairline-cracked face of concrete, and acting as a high-strength bedding and anchoring adhesive. The base and hardener are delivered in pre-weighed quantities, so on site the entire hardener can is simply emptied into the base, mixed to a uniform grey paste with a Jiffy mixer on a slow-speed drill, and applied straight away. Once cured, it forms a completely impermeable, chemically resistant skin that is fully compatible with subsequent epoxy and urethane over-coatings. For Indian contractors, consultants and applicators, TC2000 is best understood as the preparatory and detailing layer in a Fosroc protection system — the material that closes blowholes and surface defects so that a Nitocote or Nitoflor coating goes down over a sound, sealed substrate rather than a porous one that would otherwise bubble, pinhole or delaminate. Its non-slump consistency means it works equally well on slabs, walls and soffits without formwork, and its strong adhesion to concrete, masonry, steel and ceramics makes it a practical multi-purpose paste for the finishing trades on a repair contract.

The technical insight

The defining characteristic of TC2000 is that it is solvent-free with 100% volume solids — there is no carrier to flash off, so the applied film does not shrink back, and a 0.5–2.0 mm pass stays at full thickness. This is what lets it genuinely seal a surface: a solvent-borne sealer can leave residual porosity as the solvent escapes, whereas TC2000 cures to a dense, impermeable, pore-free film that physically blocks the substrate’s capillaries. The thixotropic (non-slump) rheology is the second key property — the paste holds its shape on vertical and overhead work and can be trowelled hard into blowholes without sagging. Mechanically it is a genuine structural-grade epoxy: compressive strength reaches 31 N/mm² at 1 day, 47 N/mm² at 3 days and 61 N/mm² at 7 days (BS 6319 Part 2), with 7-day flexural strength of 33 N/mm² (BS 6319 Part 3) and tensile strength of 29 N/mm² (ASTM D-412). Because epoxy reactions are temperature-driven, pot life is short and temperature-sensitive — about 3 hours 15 minutes at 24°C, dropping to 2 hours 20 minutes at 35°C — so in Indian summer conditions material must be batched in small quantities, kept shaded and never worked in direct sun. The overcoat window is equally time-critical: a subsequent layer or top coat should ideally go down within 2 to 8 hours at 25°C while the surface is still chemically active, otherwise the cured film must be abraded and solvent-wiped to re-establish a mechanical key.

Where it is used

  • Sealing blowholes, bug holes and minor surface irregularities on concrete before epoxy/urethane coating
  • Pore-sealing horizontal and vertical concrete faces ahead of Nitocote and Nitoflor coating systems
  • Sealing over fine and hairline cracks in concrete exposed to aggressive environments
  • Fixing and bedding of dowel bars in joints and slabs
  • Anchoring of anchor bolts, holding-down bolts and starter bars into drilled holes
  • Bedding and fixing of ceramic and stone tiles onto concrete and masonry
  • Detailing and fairing of repair patches to a smooth, sealed finish before over-coating
  • Surface sealing in water-retaining, marine and effluent-exposed structures

Key advantages

  • Solvent-free with 100% volume solids — no shrink-back and a fully impermeable cured film
  • Non-slump, thixotropic paste applies to vertical and overhead surfaces and trowels into blowholes without sagging
  • No separate primer required — bonds directly to most prepared substrates
  • Superior bond strength and excellent adhesion to concrete, steel, masonry and ceramics
  • High structural strength — 61 N/mm² compressive at 7 days and 29 N/mm² tensile at 7 days
  • Good chemical resistance, suitable for aggressive and water-retaining environments
  • Pre-weighed base and hardener packs eliminate site batching errors
  • Fully compatible as a substrate for Fosroc epoxy and urethane over-coatings (Nitocote / Nitoflor)
  • Smooth paste consistency that is easy to apply and finish to a level face

Limitations & considerations

  • Short and temperature-sensitive pot life (about 3 hr 15 min at 24°C, 2 hr 20 min at 35°C) — must be batched in small quantities, especially in Indian summers
  • Recommended applied thickness is 0.5–2.0 mm per pass (up to 3 mm maximum) — it is a sealing/bedding paste, not a deep structural rebuild mortar
  • Must not be applied below 5°C and falling, and should not be applied in direct sunlight or above ~35°C without shaded/air-conditioned storage
  • Part packs must never be split or partially mixed — the full hardener goes into the full base
  • Should not be exposed to water during application; heavy rainfall before final set can cause surface scour
  • If the 2–8 hour overcoat window (at 25°C) is missed, the surface must be abraded and solvent-wiped before the next layer
  • Cured material can only be removed mechanically — tools must be cleaned with Fosroc Solvent 102 immediately after use
  • Standard supply is grey only; not intended as a decorative finish coat

Selection & best practice

Prepare the substrate properly first — remove all dust, laitance, oil, grease, corrosion deposits and unsound material by high-pressure water jetting or light abrasive blasting, then wash and dry; verify cleanliness with a pull-off test where adhesion is critical. Mix only as much as can be used within the pot life: empty the entire hardener can into the full base container and mix with a Jiffy paddle on a slow-speed drill until a uniform grey colour is achieved, scraping the sides and bottom. Apply 0.5–2.0 mm per pass with a steel float, filling knife or spatula, tight-trowelling into every blowhole and defect, and build greater thickness in subsequent layers within the 2–8 hour (at 25°C) overcoat window. In Delhi NCR summer conditions, store packs shaded or air-conditioned, batch small, and avoid direct-sun application. Brush out trowel ridges while wet or grind them flat with a carborundum stone before over-coating, and clean tools with Fosroc Solvent 102 immediately after use.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly is Fosroc Nitomortar TC2000 used for?
It is a solvent-free, two-part epoxy paste used mainly to seal blowholes, pinholes and minor cracks on concrete before epoxy or urethane coatings are applied, and to bed and anchor tiles, dowel bars and bolts. In a Fosroc system it is the surface-sealing and detailing layer that prepares the substrate for Nitocote or Nitoflor coatings.
How thick can Nitomortar TC2000 be applied in one pass?
The recommended design thickness is 0.5 to 2.0 mm in a single application on horizontal or vertical surfaces, with up to 3 mm maximum. Greater build-up is achieved with additional layers, applied within the 2–8 hour overcoat window at 25°C. It is a sealing and bedding paste, not a deep structural-rebuild mortar.
Does it need a primer, and what is the pot life?
No separate primer is required — TC2000 bonds directly to a clean, sound substrate. Pot life is temperature-dependent: about 3 hours 15 minutes at 24°C and 2 hours 20 minutes at 35°C, so in hot Indian conditions you should batch small quantities and keep material shaded.
What strength does it develop?
It is a structural-grade epoxy. Compressive strength is 31 N/mm² at 1 day, 47 N/mm² at 3 days and 61 N/mm² at 7 days (BS 6319 Part 2); flexural strength reaches 33 N/mm² and tensile strength 29 N/mm² at 7 days. Practical values depend on temperature and substrate condition.
What pack size is it supplied in and what is the coverage?
It is supplied in pre-weighed 5 kg packs (base plus hardener), with a theoretical yield of 3.14 litres per pack. Actual coverage in area terms depends on the applied thickness and substrate profile, and practical coverage is reduced by wastage. Fosroc Solvent 102 for tool cleaning comes in 4 litre cans.
How is it different from a Nitomortar repair mortar like Nitomortar FC or Renderoc?
Those are trowel-applied structural repair mortars for rebuilding spalled or damaged concrete sections, often cementitious and applied at greater thickness. TC2000 is a thin epoxy paste optimised for sealing, fairing and anchoring rather than rebuilding cross-section — they are typically used together, with TC2000 sealing and detailing the finished repair before coating.

How we position Fosroc Nitomortar TC2000

Within the Fosroc range, Nitomortar TC2000 is a specialist sealing and anchoring paste rather than a cross-section repair mortar, so it is normally specified alongside other Fosroc products rather than instead of them. It pairs naturally with cementitious repair mortars such as the Renderoc range and other Nitomortar grades for rebuilding damaged concrete, with Nitocote epoxy protective coatings and Nitoflor epoxy/urethane floor toppings as the over-coat it is designed to receive, and with Fosroc Solvent 102 for cleaning and surface re-activation. For deeper structural anchoring and grouting it sits next to Fosroc’s Lokfix epoxy anchoring grouts and the Conbextra cementitious grout family. Where TC2000 is not available or a different commercial preference applies, credible equivalents exist in the Indian market: Sika offers Sikadur epoxy mortars and pastes (such as Sikadur-31 for bonding and anchoring) and Sikagard sealing/coating systems; MBS (MYK Arment / MC-Bauchemie type suppliers) and STP Limited offer comparable epoxy bedding, sealing and anchoring compounds; and Dr. Fixit (Pidilite) provides epoxy repair and bonding products for similar building-side applications, though Fosroc, Sika and STP are generally the stronger references for heavy industrial and infrastructure specifications. Buyers should match the substitute on the same verified criteria — solvent-free 100% solids chemistry, non-slump consistency, comparable compressive/tensile strength, and proven overcoat compatibility with the chosen protective coating system — rather than on price alone. As an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator in Delhi NCR and Pan-India, Space Arc Engineering can supply genuine Nitomortar TC2000, confirm batch authenticity, and advise on the complete prepare–seal–coat system for your project.
