What is it?

Fosroc Conplast SP430SRV is a naphthalene-based (sulphonated naphthalene polymer / SNF) high-range water-reducing superplasticiser, formulated with selected materials and complying with ASTM C494 as a Type F admixture.

Where is it used?

Used across Indian RMC plants, precast yards and infrastructure works where high early strength, reduced water demand and improved durability are required — including hot-weather concreting common to Delhi NCR and Pan-India sites.

Why use it?

It sharply reduces water demand to accelerate early strength gain, raise strength at all ages and cut permeability for better durability, while improving the workability of site-mixed and precast concrete.

How is it applied?

Dosed at 0.5 to 2% of cement/cementitious content (optimum set by site trials), it is added to the gauging water or wet mix; it is compatible with all Portland cements, PFA and ground slag but must NOT be combined with polycarboxylic-based (PCE) admixtures.

About Fosroc Conplast SP430SRV

Fosroc Conplast SP430SRV is a high-range water-reducing superplasticiser based on selected sulphonated naphthalene polymers (SNF). Fosroc’s own India technical data sheet describes Conplast SP430 verbatim as a “Naphthalene based admixture with selected materials,” and the wider SP430 / SP430R range is independently confirmed as “based on selected sulphonated naphthalene polymers.” It is supplied as a ready-to-use liquid and complies with ASTM C494 as a Type F admixture.

The product works by dispersing cement particles far more effectively than conventional plasticisers, allowing a substantial reduction in water content at a given workability. That reduced water demand is what drives its core benefits: faster early strength gain, higher strength at all ages, and a denser, lower-permeability matrix that improves long-term durability. Equally, it can be used to boost the workability of a fixed-water mix, making placement and compaction easier in congested or hot-weather conditions.

A critical compatibility point: Conplast SP430SRV is NOT compatible with polycarboxylic-based (PCE) admixtures. Earlier descriptions positioning this product as a PCE-style viscosity-modified self-compacting-concrete (SCC) admixture are incorrect — it is an SNF superplasticiser, not a combined high-range water reducer/VMA for SCC. It is, however, fully compatible with all types of Portland cement, PFA (fly ash) and ground granulated blast-furnace slag, making it well suited to the blended-cement mixes that dominate Indian RMC and precast practice.

For Indian projects, the SNF chemistry remains a dependable, cost-effective workhorse where high early strength and reduced permeability matter — precast element production, fast-track infrastructure pours, and durable structural concrete designed in line with IS 456 and admixtures conforming to IS 9103. Space Arc Engineering, an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator serving Delhi NCR and Pan-India, supplies Conplast SP430SRV with technical support on dosage trials and mix optimisation. Where a project genuinely requires a PCE-based high-performance or self-compacting solution, Fosroc’s Auramix / Structuro ranges (or comparable PCE products from BASF MasterGlenium, Sika ViscoCrete or Chryso) are the appropriate alternatives — but SP430SRV itself should be specified and used as the SNF superplasticiser it is.

The technical insight

The performance of Conplast SP430SRV stems from sulphonated naphthalene formaldehyde (SNF) chemistry. The sulphonate groups impart a strong negative charge to cement particles, so electrostatic repulsion deflocculates cement agglomerates and releases the trapped mixing water — the mechanism behind high water reduction and improved early strength. This is fundamentally different from polycarboxylic ether (PCE) admixtures, which work primarily through steric (side-chain) hindrance and are typically engineered for very high slump retention and self-compacting behaviour. Because the dispersion mechanisms and base chemistries differ, SNF and PCE admixtures must never be blended: Fosroc explicitly states SP430SRV is NOT compatible with polycarboxylic-based admixture, and mixing them can cause unpredictable workability, retardation or loss of effect. With a specific gravity of 1.17–1.19 at 25 ± 2 °C and no intentionally added chloride, the product is appropriate for reinforced and prestressed concrete. As with all SNF superplasticisers, slump life is comparatively shorter than PCE systems, so in hot-weather Indian conditions the dosage point, transit time and placement window should be validated by trial mixes rather than assumed.

Where it is used

  • High-early-strength concrete for precast element production and rapid demoulding cycles
  • Reduced-water, higher-strength structural concrete in RMC supply
  • Durable, low-permeability concrete where reduced permeability improves long-term service life
  • Improving the workability of site-mixed and precast concrete without adding water
  • Fast-track infrastructure and structural pours requiring strength gain at all ages
  • Hot-weather concreting where water reduction helps maintain strength and durability (trial-verified)

Key advantages

  • Naphthalene-based (SNF) chemistry gives high water reduction for accelerated early strength and higher strength at all ages
  • Improves the workability of site-mixed and precast concrete, easing placement and compaction
  • Reduced permeability for improved durability of the hardened concrete
  • Compatible with all types of Portland cement, PFA and ground slag — suited to Indian blended-cement mixes
  • No intentionally added chloride, suitable for reinforced and prestressed concrete
  • Complies with ASTM C494 as a Type F admixture
  • Cost-effective, well-proven workhorse superplasticiser for RMC, precast and infrastructure

Limitations & considerations

  • NOT compatible with polycarboxylic-based (PCE) admixtures — must never be blended with PCE products
  • SNF superplasticisers generally offer shorter slump retention than PCE systems; placement window should be trial-verified
  • Optimum dosage must be established by site trials with project materials, not assumed from the range alone
  • Not a self-compacting-concrete (SCC) admixture; SCC mixes requiring a VMA need a different, PCE-based product
  • Performance in hot-weather and long-transit conditions should be confirmed by trial mix

Selection & best practice

Always establish the optimum dosage within the 0.5 to 2% of cement/cementitious content range by carrying out site trial mixes using the actual project cement, fly ash/slag, aggregates and water — particularly important in hot Delhi NCR and Pan-India conditions where slump life is shorter. Add Conplast SP430SRV to the gauging water or to the wet mix; do not add it to dry cement or aggregate. Never combine it with any polycarboxylic-based (PCE) admixture in the same mix or batching system without thorough flushing. Store in original packing between 25–35 °C and use within the 12-month shelf life. Where the specification genuinely calls for a self-compacting or very-high-slump-retention mix, select a dedicated PCE product (such as Fosroc Auramix / Structuro) rather than SP430SRV. Space Arc Engineering can support dosage trials and mix optimisation as your authorised Fosroc distributor.

Frequently asked questions

Is Conplast SP430SRV a PCE or naphthalene-based superplasticiser?
It is naphthalene-based (SNF / sulphonated naphthalene polymer). Fosroc’s India TDS describes Conplast SP430 as a ‘Naphthalene based admixture with selected materials.’ It is not a polycarboxylic-ether (PCE) admixture, and it is explicitly NOT compatible with PCE-based admixtures.
What is the recommended dosage?
0.5 to 2% of cement/cementitious content, with the optimum established by site trial mixes using the actual project materials. The figure should always be confirmed by trial rather than assumed.
Can I use it for self-compacting concrete (SCC)?
No. SP430SRV is an SNF high-range water-reducing superplasticiser, not a viscosity-modified SCC admixture. For genuine SCC or very-high-slump-retention mixes, use a dedicated PCE-based product such as Fosroc Auramix / Structuro.
Which standard does it comply with?
It complies with ASTM C494 as a Type F admixture. There are no Fosroc-published European self-compacting-concrete test standards (such as EN 12350-8/-9/-12) associated with this product.
Is it compatible with fly ash and slag cements?
Yes. It is compatible with all types of Portland cement, PFA (fly ash) and ground granulated blast-furnace slag, making it well suited to Indian blended-cement mixes. It is only incompatible with polycarboxylic-based (PCE) admixtures.
Does it contain chloride?
No intentionally added chloride (chloride free), so it is suitable for reinforced and prestressed concrete.

Space Arc Engineering is an authorised Fosroc distributor and applicator supplying Conplast SP430SRV across Delhi NCR and Pan-India, with technical support on dosage trials and mix optimisation.

How we position Fosroc Conplast SP430SRV

Conplast SP430SRV sits in Fosroc’s naphthalene-based (SNF) superplasticiser range as a cost-effective, high-water-reduction admixture for high-early-strength, durable concrete — distinct from Fosroc’s PCE-based Auramix / Structuro high-performance and self-compacting ranges. Against PCE alternatives (BASF MasterGlenium, Sika ViscoCrete, Chryso), it is the dependable SNF workhorse for RMC, precast and infrastructure where strength gain and reduced permeability are the priority rather than extended slump retention or self-compaction.
