Sikadur 30
High-Strength Two-Component Epoxy Adhesive for Bonding CFRP Plates and Steel Plates to Concrete
Authorized Project Distributor — Sika India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Sikadur 30 is a thixotropic, two-component epoxy resin structural adhesive from Sika, specifically formulated for the adhesive bonding of fibre reinforced polymer (FRP) plates — including Sika CarboDur carbon fibre plates — and steel plates to concrete substrates in externally bonded reinforcement structural strengthening systems. It is the system-matched adhesive for Sika CarboDur S, M, and H CFRP plate systems, and its mechanical and bond properties have been comprehensively tested and documented as part of the Sika CarboDur system in accordance with European and international structural strengthening standards. Sikadur 30 is formulated as a thixotropic paste — it has a high viscosity and does not sag or flow when applied vertically or overhead, which is essential for bonding plates to the soffits of beams and slabs where the adhesive must hold the weight of the plate until the epoxy cures. The high viscosity also ensures a full, void-free adhesive layer fills the interface between the CFRP plate and the concrete surface, preventing pockets of air that would create stress concentrations and reduce bond efficiency. The cured Sikadur 30 adhesive develops very high tensile and shear bond strength to concrete (shear strength above 15 MPa at 25 degrees C) and is durable over the long service life of a strengthened structure — it is resistant to the temperature ranges encountered in Indian construction, to moisture, and to the stress levels imposed by structural load transfer through the bond line. Sikadur 30 is also used for bonding steel plate reinforcements (steel plating) to concrete structures where CFRP is not specified. Space Arc Engineering supplies Sikadur 30 and Sika CarboDur S as a complete structural strengthening system for bridge, building, and infrastructure projects throughout Delhi NCR and Uttar Pradesh.

Frequently Asked Questions
What concrete surface preparation is required before bonding Sika CarboDur CFRP plates with Sikadur 30 and how is the plate application procedure carried out?
The concrete surface preparation and CFRP plate bonding procedure using Sikadur 30 must be carried out in strict accordance with the Sika CarboDur system method statement to achieve the design bond strength on which the structural strengthening calculations are based. Concrete surface preparation: the concrete surface on which the CarboDur plate will be bonded must be prepared to a minimum surface roughness of CSP 3 (ICRI standard) by sandblasting (preferred) or grinding. This removes the concrete surface laitance and exposes the coarse aggregate surface, providing a rough, high-surface-energy profile for the epoxy adhesive to grip mechanically and chemically. The prepared surface must be clean (no dust — vacuum or blow clean with dry compressed air), sound (no delamination — check by sounding and tap testing), and dry (no visible moisture or dampness — epoxy adhesive does not bond well to wet concrete). If any carbonation or chloride contamination is present in the concrete cover at the bond zone, discuss with the structural engineer whether additional surface preparation or concrete removal is required before bonding. CFRP plate surface preparation: the bonding face of the CarboDur CFRP plate (supplied with a plastic peel-ply layer protecting the bond face) must have the peel-ply peeled off immediately before adhesive application — do not sand or grind the CFRP bond face. After peel-ply removal, wipe the CFRP bond face with a clean cloth dampened with acetone to remove any fingerprint contamination. Sikadur 30 application: mix Sikadur 30 Part A and Part B in the 3:1 ratio and apply to both the prepared concrete surface and the CFRP bond face in a combed or ribbed pattern at approximately 1.5 to 2.0 kg per m2 total — the adhesive ribs interlock when plate is pressed to concrete, expelling air pockets. Press the CFRP plate firmly onto the adhesive, aligning exactly with the design position. Use a rubber roller to apply even pressure from the centre outward to expel air and achieve uniform adhesive contact.
