Product Overview

Dr. Fixit Dampguard is a cementitious crystalline waterproofing compound manufactured by Pidilite Industries for use as a damp proof course (DPC) treatment in the construction of new masonry walls and concrete plinths, and as a remedial DPC treatment in existing walls suffering from rising damp. The product functions on the principle of crystalline waterproofing chemistry: active reactive silicate compounds in Dr. Fixit Dampguard penetrate into the pores and micro-cracks of the concrete or masonry substrate and react with calcium hydroxide present in the cement matrix in the presence of moisture to form insoluble calcium silicate hydrate crystals. These crystals grow outward from the treated surface into the body of the masonry or concrete, physically blocking capillary pores and hairline cracks and preventing the passage of water molecules while remaining permeable to water vapour. In new construction, Dr. Fixit Dampguard is applied as a slurry (mixed with water to a thick paste consistency) in two coats over the foundation concrete or masonry before the first course of brickwork is laid, forming an effective horizontal DPC barrier that prevents rising damp from ground moisture from migrating upward through the wall. In remedial treatment of existing walls with rising damp, Dr. Fixit Dampguard slurry is injected or applied to a slot cut horizontally in the mortar bed joint at the base of the wall to restore the DPC function. The crystalline treatment is permanent, reactivates in the presence of moisture, and self-seals new hairline cracks that develop over time, making it superior to conventional bituminous felt DPC that degrades over decades. Space Arc Engineering supplies Dr. Fixit Dampguard for new construction and renovation projects throughout Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, and Uttar Pradesh.

Applications

  • New masonry construction — applied as horizontal DPC slurry over foundation before first brick course
  • Concrete plinth and column base waterproofing — crystalline slurry applied to concrete before masonry
  • Remedial DPC treatment — applied into slots cut in mortar bed joints of existing damp walls
  • Basement and underground wall inner face crystalline waterproofing — negative-side treatment
  • Retaining wall base treatment to prevent moisture migration from retained earth
  • Renovation of heritage and old buildings — restoration of failed DPC in historic masonry

Key Advantages

  • Crystalline chemistry — permanent self-sealing waterproofing that reactivates with moisture
  • Superior to bituminous felt DPC — no degradation over time unlike organic felt DPC membranes
  • Penetrating action — active crystals grow into substrate pores, not just a surface coating
  • Handles hydrostatic pressure — tested for positive and negative water pressure resistance
  • Compatible with cement-based substrate — bonds to concrete and masonry without adhesive primers
  • Reduces rising damp and efflorescence in walls — improves indoor environment quality

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a Dr. Fixit Dampguard crystalline DPC and a conventional bituminous felt DPC, and which is better for Indian conditions?

A conventional bituminous felt DPC (typically 0.5 mm to 1.0 mm thick bitumen-saturated hessian or fibre felt sheet) has been the standard DPC method in Indian construction for decades. It is laid as a horizontal layer in the mortar bed joint between the foundation concrete and the first course of brickwork, forming a physical barrier against rising damp. However, bituminous felt DPC has significant limitations in Indian conditions: the bitumen binder oxidizes and becomes brittle over 10 to 20 years, losing flexibility and developing cracks; the felt sheet can be punctured during brick-laying or shifted out of position by mortar squeeze; coverage at wall junctions, column intersections, and irregular wall thicknesses is difficult to achieve without gaps; and there is no self-healing capability — once cracked or torn, the DPC fails permanently. Dr. Fixit Dampguard crystalline DPC avoids all of these limitations. Applied as a cement slurry, it bonds to the concrete substrate and masonry mortar, ensuring full coverage including at junctions and column bases where felt sheet coverage is problematic. The crystalline chemistry reacts with the cement matrix to grow insoluble crystals into the concrete pores, producing a barrier that strengthens rather than weakens over time as the crystal network continues to develop. When minor cracks develop in the concrete or masonry DPC zone due to thermal or structural movement, the active crystalline compounds reactivate in the presence of moisture and grow new crystals to seal the cracks automatically. For Indian conditions — particularly high monsoon humidity, fluctuating seasonal moisture levels, and aging building stock — the crystalline Dampguard DPC provides superior long-term performance compared to bituminous felt, especially for new concrete-framed buildings where felt DPC is difficult to integrate with column and beam elements.
