Centrament Flow 100
Liquid Normal-Range Water-Reducing Plasticiser for Improved Workability and Durability of Concrete
Authorized Project Distributor — MC-Bauchemie India | Space Arc Engineering, Ghaziabad
Product Overview
Centrament Flow 100 is a liquid lignosulphonate or modified lignosulphonate-based normal-range water-reducing plasticiser manufactured by MC-Bauchemie as part of the Centrament admixture range, conforming to IS 9103 Type A (water-reducing and plasticising admixture) and ASTM C494 Type A. The product is used in concrete either to increase workability at the same water-cement ratio (for example, raising slump from 50 mm to 100 to 125 mm to improve placing and compaction without adding water), or to reduce the mixing water requirement by 8 to 12 percent at the same workability, directly reducing the water-cement ratio and improving the compressive strength and durability of the resulting concrete. Centrament Flow 100 works by adsorbing onto the surface of cement particles through the sulphonate groups of the lignosulphonate molecule, providing a negative electrostatic charge that increases inter-particle repulsion and breaks up the flocs of cement particles that are responsible for the high water demand of unplasticised concrete (cement particles in water naturally aggregate into clusters due to electrostatic and van der Waals attractive forces — the plasticiser overcomes these attractive forces and disperses the particles). As a normal-range plasticiser, Centrament Flow 100 is positioned below the high-range PCE superplasticisers (such as Centrament Nano 500) in water reduction capability — it is the appropriate choice for standard structural concrete in grades C20/25 to C30/37 (M25 to M35) where the required water reduction is 8 to 12 percent, and where the higher cost of PCE admixtures is not justified by the specification. Centrament Flow 100 is the workhorse admixture of the Indian construction industry — the type of product specified by default in most IS 456 structural concrete specifications for columns, beams, slabs, and foundations in commercial and residential building construction, and in infrastructure concrete for standard quality parapets, culverts, and retaining walls. Space Arc Engineering supplies Centrament Flow 100 for ready-mix producers, site-batch concrete contractors, and precast manufacturers across Delhi NCR, Ghaziabad, Noida, and Uttar Pradesh.
Applications
- Structural concrete columns, beams, and slabs — improved workability and reduced water-cement ratio
- Foundation concrete — raft slabs, pile caps, and strip footings — improved placement and compaction
- Ready-mix concrete — standard M25 to M35 grade — IS 456 structural concrete with improved durability
- Masonry mortar and plaster — improved workability and adhesion with reduced water demand
- Precast concrete panels, segments, and blocks — reduced water-cement ratio for improved demould strength
- Site-batch concrete for walls and floors — easy to dose liquid plasticiser for small-batch site production
Key Advantages
- 8 to 12 percent water reduction — directly reduces water-cement ratio for higher strength and durability
- Improved workability — raises slump by 50 to 75 mm at the same water content for better compaction
- IS 9103 Type A and ASTM C494 Type A compliant — standard specification admixture for Indian construction
- Liquid admixture — easy site dosing by volume — compatible with standard batch plant dispensing systems
- Cost-effective — lignosulphonate chemistry at economical cost for standard structural concrete grades
- Improved surface finish — better workability produces denser surface with fewer pinholes and bug-holes

Frequently Asked Questions
For a site engineer specifying concrete for a G+10 residential building in Ghaziabad using IS 456, when should Centrament Flow 100 normal-range plasticiser be specified versus Centrament Nano 500 high-range PCE superplasticiser, and what is the practical cost difference?
The specification decision between a normal-range plasticiser such as Centrament Flow 100 and a high-range PCE superplasticiser such as Centrament Nano 500 for a G+10 residential building in Ghaziabad is a practical engineering and cost trade-off that depends primarily on the structural concrete grade specified, the reinforcement congestion, and the available placing method. Centrament Flow 100 is appropriate for the following concrete grades and applications in a typical G+10 building. Foundation concrete and raft slab (M30 or below, relatively simple geometry, placed by crane and bucket or pump, vibrated compaction): the 8 to 12 percent water reduction provided by Centrament Flow 100 is sufficient to achieve the required water-cement ratio of 0.45 to 0.50 for M30 concrete per IS 456, Table 5. The dose of approximately 0.2 to 0.3 percent by mass of cement (2 to 3 litres per 1,000 kg cement) provides adequate workability for crane-and-bucket or pump placing in the slab geometry. Column and wall concrete below M35 with normal reinforcement spacing greater than 75 mm (the minimum clear spacing per IS 456 for 16 mm bars in standard columns): a normal-range plasticiser is sufficient for vibrator access between bars at this spacing. Standard M25 to M30 beam and slab concrete placed by pump into flat soffit formwork: normal-range plasticiser is adequate. Centrament Nano 500 PCE superplasticiser is justified in the following applications within the same G+10 building. High-grade concrete columns and walls in M40 and above: the target water-cement ratio for M40 concrete (below 0.40 per IS 10262 mix design method) requires 20 to 25 percent water reduction from the same mix at normal workability, which is beyond the capability of a normal-range plasticiser but within the capability of Centrament Nano 500. Columns with congested reinforcement (clear spacing below 50 mm, four to six bars in a 230 by 300 mm column): the PCE admixture enables a more fluid concrete mix (slump 150 to 175 mm) that can flow between the congested bars without aggressive vibration that might segregate a standard concrete mix. Concrete pumped to upper floors above the fifth storey: high pumping pressure losses require a higher slump (minimum 100 to 125 mm at the pump hopper) that may require the higher water reduction and extended workability retention of PCE to maintain slump at the point of delivery at the upper floors without adding water to the pump hopper. Cost comparison: the cost of Centrament Flow 100 at the standard dose of 0.2 to 0.3 percent by mass of cement is typically 5 to 10 rupees per litre at market price, with a dose of 2 to 3 litres per cubic metre of concrete (assuming 350 to 400 kg cement per cubic metre of M30 concrete), giving a cost of 10 to 30 rupees per cubic metre. Centrament Nano 500 at 0.8 to 1.2 percent dose is typically 15 to 25 rupees per litre, at a dose of 5 to 8 litres per cubic metre, giving a cost of 75 to 200 rupees per cubic metre — three to six times the cost of the normal-range plasticiser. For a G+10 building with a total concrete volume of approximately 800 to 1,200 cubic metres, switching from Centrament Flow 100 to Centrament Nano 500 throughout adds approximately 50,000 to 150,000 rupees to the concrete admixture cost — a small fraction of the total concrete cost but a meaningful budget item. The recommended approach for a Ghaziabad G+10 building is to specify Centrament Flow 100 for all standard M25 and M30 concrete (typically 60 to 70 percent of the total concrete volume), and Centrament Nano 500 specifically for the high-grade M40 columns and the upper-floor pump concrete, achieving the optimal balance of performance and cost. Space Arc Engineering provides mix design guidance and admixture supply for both normal-range and high-range admixture applications in Ghaziabad and Delhi NCR.
